In 1899 the New York Times published an article titled "The Largest Kitchen in the World". King George IV ordered the kitchen built at Windsor Castle in 1828, with a heating table alone that measured fourteen by nine feet, the size of many contemporary kitchens. Cabinets needed to hold china and silverware service to manage service for the 113,000 people who were fed each year at Windsor Castle, long before microwaves, dishwashers, and hot running water were commonplace.
