FAQ: Common questions about air conditioning repair services in Old Toronto

Are air conditioning repair pros in Old Toronto insured and licensed?

In Old Toronto, AC repair pros should hold a valid HVAC licence and carry both liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage. This is especially important for any work involving refrigerants, which are regulated under federal law. Before committing to a pro, ask for proof of both, and don't skip this step just because the repair seems minor.

Do air conditioning repair pros in Old Toronto need a permit?

For most repair work in Old Toronto, a permit isn't required. However, if the repair involves replacing a major component like a compressor, or any work that touches refrigerant lines or electrical systems, some municipalities may require one. Your pro should know the local rules and flag this upfront if it applies to your job.

How do I know if my air conditioner needs a repair or full replacement?

A good rule of thumb is to weigh the cost of the repair against the age of your unit. If your system is more than 10 to 15 years old and the repair costs more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is often the better investment.

Recurring breakdowns, rising energy bills, and uneven cooling are all signs that your system may be nearing the end of its life. If you're unsure, post your job on HomeStars to get quotes from air conditioning pros in Old Toronto who can assess your system and help you make the call. Can an air conditioning repair pro in Old Toronto also handle my heating needs?

In most cases, yes. Air conditioning repair pros in Old Toronto are often HVAC contractors who are just as comfortable working on your heating system as your cooling one. If you need someone to handle both, [HVAC contractors in Old Toronto](https://www.homestars.com/heating/hvac-contractor-pros/Old Toronto) on HomeStars are a good place to start, as many pros offer full heating and cooling services under one roof.

Do air conditioning repair pros in Old Toronto handle cleanup after the job?

For most repair calls in Old Toronto, there isn't much to clean up, but a good pro should leave your space the way they found it. If a major component is being replaced, confirm upfront whether old parts and packaging are included in the removal or if there's an additional disposal fee.
