Bath Fitter

The first thing BathFitter's installer did was remove and discard the mix-valve's depth-gauge template which comes packaged attached to the mix-valve (-for good reason). If I'd known better I would have stopped him right there. When he said the job is complete I noted that the handle of the mix-valve was sticking out off the trim plate, an inch too long. I showed him how it looks in the manufacturer's drawing and the photo in BathFitter's brochure but he said they never look like that (-no wonder). Also he didn't cut his wall's corner trim properly along the side most noticeable, but that was a small issue compared to the exposed innards of the mix-valve. Inside the wall the mix-valve was up against a wall stud which he should have chewed out to accept the valve at the proper depth but he didn't do this however and all was now buried behind the new custom acrylic wall he had just installed. I felt there was nothing I could do other than have him tear out everything he had just done and desolder his copper and chew out the wall stud. I didn't want to do that to the guy so I let it slide. I later fixed it myself by adding a melamine salad plate from Dollarama to take up the inch between his new wall and the first of the trim rings. It looks great and now the handle is in the right place. It just so happened that the melamine plate is the exact color of the wall acrylic. I also removed his corner trim piece and cut it to snugly fit the corner. All is fine now but it was an annoying experience. Luckily I had just gone through a whole-house reno so was able to calm down and think my way through it -and I got lucky at $1.50 for the salad plate (versus $135 for a trim ring extension that only would have provided a half inch of added depth -so times two on that $135! -and will they stack properly?)
Overall, I cannot recommend them but where else you gonna go? If you read up (youtube) on how its done and then stand over the guy like a hawk for the entire install process watching for potential screw-ups you should be okay with them. And be firm if you feel you want to halt the production -I wish I had been.
