Basement Renovation

This is the second project we have used Bravehart Building Design & Build to help us complete and once again, we could not be more pleased with the results! From the very beginning of each project, they were kind, courteous and very knowledgeable. They were able to understand what we wanted to achieve and they went above and beyond our expectations. We would highly recommend them and we will most certainly be calling upon them for our next project.

Large scale reno

We bought a house in 2008 which required significant work, as it had been neglected for years. Specifically, we needed a new roof, a new bathroom, new kitchen, and replace a solarium. Beyond that, there was water damage in the house, leaking skylights, damaged flooring (tiles and hardwood). After much research, we contacted Bill from Bravehart Building who attended the premise and gave us some great ideas, suggestions and advice. Bill later presented us with an estimate for the work we requested. I must say I found Bill to be honest and forthright, and he even talked us out of some of the work we had wanted done, and showed us the shortfalls of what we had considered. We also met Laura, who gave us a lot of free advice on the design of the renovation work. We were initially questioning some of her ideas, as we couldn’t envision what she was suggesting. I must say we were very happy with her suggestions once the work was done, and we could see the final results.

We were fortunate to have an overlap period when we took possession of our new home, and still lived at our old house. That gave us some time that the renovation could take place while the new house was vacant. I went by the work site daily, and Bill always had workers there, on time and during the hours that he said they would be there. Bill would often be on-site as well, supervising the work and jumping in to help. All the workers were courteous and polite, and many would take the time to explain the work to me when I asked.

We ran into several unexpected issues, including a roof joist that had rotted away from water damage, roof sheeting that needed replacing, and more. Bill always took these issues in stride, even when we were panicking. It helped a great deal to have someone who remained calm and offered solutions. The one thing I really appreciate was that Bill always called when something out of the ordinary was encountered, and showed me the issues on-site. We also continually made changes to our plans, which Bill accommodated without complaint. Bill always informed us of the potential extra costs when we wanted changes made, so there were never any surprises.

All in all, the entire renovation was completed pretty much on time (I think we went over by a week or so, not bad for a 3-month job), on budget after adjusting for all the changes we made after the initial quote was given, and the work exceeded our expectations.

Beyond the renovation, we have called Bravehart several times since for some emergency work. Bill always showed up at the earliest opportunity, which is a great relief when you have leaking roof because of ice damming, burst pipe from being frozen in extreme cold, etc. Although the damage, or the cause of the damage had nothing to do with Bravehart’s work on our house, Bill had always shown up and provided the assistance required. It really reflects Bill’s approach to developing a relationship with his clients, rather than viewing his work as just a one-time reno job. For this reason, we have continued to employ Bravehart Building, and will keep doing so. We are going to renovate a bathroom this year, and retrofit part of our basement which is the cause of the frozen pipes. Bravehart Building will be our contractor for these jobs.

I find Bravehart Building not to be the cheapest of contractors out there, but they certainly are not the most expensive. Having seen some of our friends go through renovation nightmares, I think Bravehart provides excellent value for money. I know the work is done right when Bill and his crew are doing it, and when you are looking at a $100,000+ renovation, I would much rather have the job done right, than to save a few thousand dollars but have to worry about the safety of my house.

bathroom

Bravehart Building completely gutted and renovated the main washroom in our 1920's house. We are delighted with the results. The team was neat, courteous, and present everyday. We have a perfectly executed and installed new washroom including a hot water towel warmer, under floor heating, marble floor, new fixtures, tiling, and moulding. We have since only considered Bravehart Building for all of our renovations.

Basement Renovation

This is my second project with Bravehart. My experience last time was so fantastic, when it came time for my next couple of projects, it was obvious who I was going to call. This time I needed my kitchen and main bathroom redone. Bravehart's design team (headed by Laura) came up with a couple amazing options for transforming my cheaply made, big box store kitchen, into a cooking paradise. Her innovative space design has kept the kitchen footprint almost the same, but made it significantly more functional. Our bathroom was a disaster, a cheap DIY job done poorly. Bravehart's crew came in and completely transformed it for me. The construction team, headed by Bill and especially our project manager, Nick were a dream to work with. Very willing to adapt the plan to my changing whims while being patient as I made up my mind on selections such as tile, paint colour, etc. I love laying in my new soaker tub now, and can actually look around the bathroom and not feel repulsed. We still have more projects to do in the future and will definitely be calling Bravehart again!

Design of Entrance

I had a horrible experience with another designer, who essentially ripped me off (I lost $5,000). After much searching, I found Bravehart. My house was built in 1918, and had no closets or washroom on the ground floor. I wanted an addition that would give me an entrance that would include ample closet space and a powder room. Laura was fantastic. She was professional, listened to my ideas, worked with me, and provided a design that was elegant and reasonable. Her design replaced the existing 6x15' porch with an addition that included a six-foot wide closet, a small powder room, and a foyer space. The design allowed lots of light into the house, which had previously been dark and gloomy. Sliding French doors could be closed for privacy, and the design also opened up the living and dining rooms into one bright space. I could not be happier with the end result.

Home Reno Design

Bravehart worked with us to design our home renovation. They provided a number of design drawings, many more than was dictated in our agreement and were always very willing to meet to discuss, review and modify the plans. They understood our needs and wants and created a plan that we are very pleased with. Thanks Laura.

Living Room and Main Foyer Construction

My husband and I decided to hire Bravehart to complete the construction phase of the living room and main foyer design. Bravehart's construction team treated our home with a ton of care. The construction area was prepped and sealed off very well from the rest of the home to minimize construction debris from escaping to the rest of the home. Once construction started the site was cleaned up at the end of everyday. Moreover, the construction timeline went as exactly as planned and the project was completed on time and on budget. The final product? Well, we want to share that we absolutely love our new living room space and how much more functional the foyer is. Family and friends who have seen the transformation gives us nothing but complements on how well designed the space is! We know we have found both a design and build company that we will be coming back to for our future kitchen renovation project!

Company Response

Thanks for your comments and glad to hear our men are 'thinking like ladies' - as I like to say!
It is especially challenging to design in smaller North Toronto foyers - glad the solution is functional. Given the house you purchased is uber traditional and your aesthetic is modern, it was a good challenge to merge the styles. Glad you are happy with the results. Look forward to working with you again on our work that requires building plans and permit! It's what we love to help our clients with- have an overall plan and execute as required.

Design Services

For the last year our family has been contemplating extending our home. We met with several professionals in the business but decided to proceed with Laura and the team at Bravehart. Laura takes a very practical approach to designing. She is very good at exploring various scenarios and providing the high and low of the design. We are at our final process of the design and have landed at a final concept. Due to being a Design and build firm you are certain that the design is feasible, which is a strong plus for working with Bravehart.

Design

I feel really lucky to have met Laura and her team at Braveheart. I completely see what everyone is raving about- they are a really nice company to work with. Laura brought several really creative designs to the table- deciding which option to go with was one of the biggest challenges in my renovation! This is a really nice company to renovate- if there was a higher rating than 10/10 I'd give it. Thanks again!
