Roof is leaking

After only 7 years my roof sprung a leak and my siding job does not look any better.
Ive had nothing but trouble with everyone at this company, no one cares about the poor workmanship they do.
I know this company will do nothing because of how I have been treated in the past.
I write this review in hopes that someone reads it and does not use this awful company.
I have hundreds of pictures but here are two.

Roofing

I called D'Angelo following the storm of May 21, , 2022, to replace all the shingles on the roof of my home. Although i had a quote for less money, I felt more confident with Jamie the sales rep, and particularly the lifetime guarantee that D'Angelo can offer as a larger company. They were onsite within a month and Derek and his team did a great job. There was some minor follow up work that was finished within a week by Steve. The clean up was great and I know i won't have to worry about replacing the roof again for a very, very long time. Many thanks to the D'Angelo team for a job well done!.

Siding, Soffit & Gutter replacement

This project was to remove our 40 year old siding, along with the soffit and gutters. Our goal was to improve air tightness and keep critters out. As a bonus, if asthetics could be improved along the way, why not?

My sincere thanks to Steve (Sales) for your patience with all our questions and Brad (PM) for keeping us in the loop every step of the way. Chad, you and your crew did a great job to get the siding replaced and the work area cleaned up, before our backyard birthday party as promised. Rocky - thanks for going the extra mile to make sure the lighting was done just right!

This is our second project with D'Angelo & Sons, which again, was delivered the project on time and on budget. More important than the asthetic improvement from the new siding (which you were right about, Steve!), the house is noticably more comfortable inside, due to the air barrier and insulation added.

If I hear of anyone looking for a good contractor for roofing or siding work, I will definitely recommend D'Angelo & Sons.

UNETHICAL AND UNPROFESSIONAL DEALING

BACKGROUND
In early Spring 2022, I hired DAngelo Roofing to instal DoublePro gutter-guards to my bungalow gutters. They did no post-installation inspection with me, and I found out on my own that: L-shaped aluminum bases at every corner were missing; overlaps were improperly screwed down, allowing leaves and other debris to accumulate in the gutters; and, splash guards were missing at the bottom of roof valleys. I understood the problems from reviewing the installation instructions posted on the manufacturers website, Alu-Rex. I also reviewed their warranty and was alarmed to find that my installation deficiencies would exclude me from succeeding with a warranty claim years later if the gutter-guards failed, e.g., openings at overlaps, corners, etc. could not exceed 7/64 sq. in. My openings mostly failed to meet this standard because a single screw was used to close them versus two as required.

I complained to DAngelo, using photos to illustrate the deficiencies. At first, the company insisted the installation met requirements but then, they sent the images to their Alu-Rex rep, who also made the same assertion seated in Montreal. I however, persisted and in early November 2022, the rep wrote me to say he will visit in Spring 2023 to examine the installation.

JULY 2023 FOLLOWUP
Eight months later, the Montreal Alu-Rex regional rep showed up to investigate my gutter-guard complaint. His method was to walk around the house to do so. I strongly objected. I loaned him my ladder, he climbed up at the front entrance, looked around for 15 seconds, descended and declared Theres nothing wrong with the installation! A serious argument between us followed.

Two weeks later, Gary, DAngelos Service Rep, visited and installed the missing L-shaped aluminum base at all 14 inside and outside gutter corners, as the Alu-Rex rep advised him to. Gary also used three screws to securely close the overlaps, thus preventing leaves and debris from entering the gutter system. In addition, he flushed out accessible debris from the gutters and installed splash guards at inside corners and valleys. Garys attentive work is a credit to him personally and not to DAngelo, whose low Google rating I have left unchanged.

The bottom line for homeowners is: when engaging any gutter guard installer, do your homework and know what should be installed and how. Demand an inspection before the installer leaves and demand corrective work before you make your final payment. Most of all, dont accept after-installation assurances that if theres ever a performance problem the manufacturer will stand behind its product; manufacturer warranties specifically dont protect against shoddy installation. I have not dismissed the likelihood that the manufacturers intervention in an installer repair situation is a game played between them at the customers expense.

eaves, porch & some siding

After waiting almost a full year for the job to commence, I admit the renos do look good. I second the other comments about workers "sometimes" showing up and then leaving things half completed, not to mention a mess. I am STILL picking up screws as the worker was too lazy to run a magnet over the property (after he said he's be back the next day). I would suggest holding back payment until the job is 100% completed. I took a loan (therefore company was paid in full) and am still waiting for my garage door pin pad to be installed (even after two emails to the project manager), not to mention there are scratches on the new eaves which is a bit of an eye sore that were never addressed. Just do your homework before hiring them. Again, the final job has improved our home, but not sure the headaches along the way were worth it.

How many visits to do a roof?

We got a number of quotes to have our roof replaced. D'Angelo's was not the cheapest, but we were happy with what they planned on doing so we hired them.

After missing 3 start dates (with the supplies sitting in the middle of my driveway), they finally showed up.

The roof part looked ok, we went up and inspected it and didn't see anything too troubling.
We had decided to go with the eavestrough and gutter guards. This was a separate crew.

After missing another 4 start dates (by the way, do NOT expect them to call you to confirm which day they are coming, or if they don't show up when they
said they would.. not one phone call).
They finally showed up on a day with no warning and got angry at us because our gate to the backyard was locked. We explained that we needed warning and we would happily make sure it was open.

After much back and forth, they gave us a new day (which they didn't show up). They showed up a day late, but they were there.

When we went around and checked out the work for the eavestrough, we were absolutely stunned at the absolute lack of care when installing these. There were 4 pieces of downspout all mashed together, so basically when it rained it leaked out of the cracks.
The gutter guards had major gaps in it, and there were already leaves accumulating in our gutters. There were huge gaps and it looks like they just jammed everything together.

It took another 3 visits and work being done each time to get this fixed.

The ONLY reason they even came back was because we withheld the balance of the payment and refused to pay until it was fixed to our satisfaction. Trust me, they tried to get us to pay them "for our year end", but we had zero faith that anything would be fixed voluntarily on their end.

Just avoid this company. They do not have customer satisfaction in mind.

Their sales team did an amazing job though! I ignored the other warnings about this company.. Never again.

Terrible roof repair

D'Angelo is a terrible company that I would avoid at all costs.

I had them come to fix a leak in my roof. When the guy arrived he asked where the leak was but refused to even look at the leak from the attic to get an idea of where it was. He then went up on the roof for 8 minutes and laid down some roofing sealant (roofers tar in a tube) and left. The whole visit was 13 minutes and he never even told us he was done. That visit cost about $380. I went up on the roof and the container from the sealant was left on the roof so I cleaned up after him too.

The next big rain it leaked again so I called D'Angelo. They offered to come out for another leak repair and I could pay another $380 for them to try again. They would not try again without another payment because no warranty on leak repair and then they had the gall to try and sell me a new roof because that would for sure fix the problem.

I wouldn't trust them for any future job. Poorly run company that lacks any customer service skills.

Re-shingled roof of home

A year after they did the roof I had to go up there to empty the eaves trough and saw that they did not put in the metal valleys they said they woul. They did not put extra vents in (which were at the corner of the house) The underlay boards were not used.
They had told me the financing was all set and then they said it was not. We had to scramble for finacing and then in the mean time they put a construction lein on our house.
Not impressed and would never refer them.
