Roofing, insulation, siding, eaves and skylight

From the start Shay was professional, knowledgeable and punctual. I had 4-5 other contractors give estimates (including high-rated Homestars ones), many didn't even climb up on the roof or meet me in person, just left a quote in the mailbox. They didn't even ask about the leaks in the winter or the significant attic mold. Shay spent almost 2 hours with me explaining what needed to be done, what I wanted and what was in the budget.

The price was comparable to some of the quotes I received, and it is not cheap but I wanted to go through the trouble of changing the roof only once and Shay presented a reliable company. I contacted them after a frustrating summer of 2012 meeting various contractors and they began work in December 2012 and worked in the cold weather to complete it before New Years. The 3 most impressive things were:
1. Shay and his dealing with clients.
2. Juff's ability to co-ordinate such a big job and complete it within 2 weeks (removing old insulation and spraying new insulation, changing the plywood on the entire roof, eaves troughs, new siding, skylight, roofing and ensuring the ventilation in adequate, shutters).
3. The limited disruption to our daily life and the neighbours.

We noticed the upper floor was warmer and the drafts were virtually gone as the work was nearing completion and the house looked much better, too. Also, last winter had a lot of heavy, wet snow, I know the old roof wouldn't have survived so I appreciate the work they did in December, it was well worth the money.

Juff's actually provided extra materials and work, more than in the contract, as the job was nearing completion to have everything match and make the house look better.

Overall, I am very pleased with the work that Juff's did, and they exceeded my expectations, provided reliable service and I have confidence my roof will last for years without any issue. The mold, insulation and roofing that was my main concern and everything was completed, beyond expectations.

overcoming ice dams on eaves

Excellent job!- After adding an addition to our house, we suffered every winter for ten years from five foot long icicles at the back front and sides of the house. We wasted thousands of dollars on other contractors who completely failed to solve the problem. We then turned to Juffs Roofing. I am delighted that Juffs not only identified the real problem but solved it completely. No more ice dams and no more icicles for the whole winter. The price was reasonable - about the same that we had paid each of the earlier contractors who had failed to solve the problem.

Replaced old roof on resale home

I had interviewed 4 companies with regards to replacing my 22 years old roof. Each company tried to compete on price, except Juffs. Shay explained what was wrong with our roof, and how the other companies were selling me a short term solution that was destined for repairs with 8-12 years. With his expertise, he was able to explain what was needed in order to have a roof that would last 25+ years and still look great. He was also able to work with my budget and still find a way to make it work. The second great part was the crew that showed up. Led by an expert foreman, he had an apprentice up on the roof as well as a gofer below that took care of regular tasks. The only problem was that the crew was in such a hurry to leave that they left roof waste on my property and the neighbours. It was a shame, as that is the only thing that kept this from being a 10/10.

Roofing replacement

I've received quotes from many roofing companies. Be very detailed on what you are paying for. Do your reseach before you decide. With Juffs Roofing, you get what you pay for in the quality of expertise, product, technical skill, warranty, and customer service. There are a lot of options and short-cuts in this inductry. Shay, the estimator and Shane, the site manager kept their word in punctuality, timeline, setting expectation and were professional. Many companies I asked to install options included with Juff's Roofing didn't make me feel they have the knowledge and/or expertise as they go with the lowest price cookie and/or a cutter approach. Be careful with warranty. Not all warranties are the same and how to claim it is another thing. I've gone with Juff's Roofing twice and their value comes through especially over time.

Roof Installed

We sought several quotes for the job and then learned about side and peak venting from a neighbour. I called an architect I knew and asked for his advice on the materials and this, new to me, venting. It turns out it is the better choice, and while it cost more we decided to go all the way and do the job right and get the 50 year protection. We did not want to do the roof again.
We thought we can do the cheaper way for 1/2 the price, and then have to do it again in 10 or 15 years or we could do it right and never worry. We then went back to the other firms and one knew nothing about this form of venting and the other came back with a similar quote, but did not sound as confident about the work (we were not sure how often they had done it). Juff's had done several and were very confident about the work, answered all the questions, passed all the architect test questions and did not give us any hassle about increasing the thickness of the plywood.
Shay was polite, responsive and gave us complete information. They even found a way to move up our start date and called us to let us know. They arrived on time and did the work. They even gave me a tour of the roof before they finished so I could see how it was done. The clean up was OK and the bin did not stay longer than necessary. Overall I would recommend them.

If you plan on staying in your home, or keeping the investment property I would seriously consider getting the higher quality work done. The savings are there in the long run.

Installed new shingles, baffles and skylight

We obtained five quotes from recognized roofers. One was dismissed as he did not find it necessary to climb onto the roof to provide a quote. Another was very low in cost. And when we asked for a new skylight (which was required), under pad, drip tray, his price quickly added up.

When we met Shay Barat (Juffs Roofing), he was the most detailed in his explanation (in regards to his quote) and what we should do and what was not necessary. Shay was the only one that gave us us the comfort level which we required.

A special thanks to the incredible crew that did the installation. Adam Chris, PJ, Shane, Philip, Phil.
