Disaster

Just to start off on a positive note, Fred was pleasant. He wore a mask while working and he made sure not to make a mess of our place.

We hired Fred to snake the main household drain and he did that. However, Fred neglected to ask whether we had a backwater valve. When my husband thought this might be an issue, Fred's response was, "I hope I didn't put a hole in it." You would think that someone who clears drains for a living would ask about backwater valves before starting work rather than relying on homeowners, who aren't drain experts, and are somewhat stressed about having water backing up from their basement floor drain, ask him about it. We made the mistake of asking Fred to snake the upstairs bathroom sink that was draining slowly. In the process of snaking the bathroom drain, Fred punctured a hole in the pipe causing water to flood through the bathroom floor, through to the kitchen ceiling below and ruining a pot light in the kitchen. Fred did not want to be responsible for the damage he caused. Although he did not charge us for snaking the bathroom sink, he did charge us to replace the pipe he punctured and he refused to reimburse us for the $150 it cost us to have an electrician replace the damaged pot light.
