Repair of Venta humidifier- damaged $300 humidifier

Awful experience resulting in a broken appliance wor the $300.
I brought my humidifier for repair and right away was told that the wait is at least a month and not cost estimate. The person at the store was rude. Same when I called to ask for updates. The humidifier had motor that needed some cleaning.
They eventually returned the humidifier with improved motor but they broke the humidifier cover (broken plastic resulting from forced opening). My husband wrote a complaint and they attempted to “fix it” basically glued something but nothing to address the damage. They returned the humidifier missing key parts - without these parts it cannot work. It’s basically garbage now. Awful company, awful experience, beware.

Repair of Rowenta Garment Steamer

Very happy with the repair service I received for my garment steamer. While Butler's was a further drive from my location than the other authorized service dealer in the GTA, the extra effort was worth it. They are upfront about pricing, the amount of time it would take, and I appreciate the opportunity to support an honest, professional independent business.

Saved a bundle

Our Breville coffee maker was not working. We called the 1-800 service number and were told for $169 they would fix it or replace it. We had to ship this big heavy thing too which would have cost more than $100.

Butlers is an authorized dealer and fixed it for just $24. Lovely, friendly. Thrilled to have discovered them.

product information

I was looking for information about a Jiffy steamer and Jiffy lists this business as one of the few retailers in the GTA. Turns out they don't sell the steamers but they do service them. Craig spent a lot of time informing me online about the different models and he is obviously very knowledgeable. Once I got his insight, I felt comfortable buying a steamer sight unseen. If I need any service on this or any other appliance I will be visiting Butler's for help.

Service Call

Called Butler's (it's close to our house) to service a refrigerator. They were able to do same day (only good thing) but the guy on the phone did not seem very interested in what I had to say and I appeared to be inconveniencing him. He told me the service call was $80.

The service guy was in my house for no more than 3 MINUTES and said it can't be fixed based on hearing my description. For that, he wanted $100. The $80 is only to drive to the house apparently.

I wish I had read these reviews before calling them.. don't make the mistake I did!!

Stay away from this company

Like others, I am so sorry I didn't do more research before using Butler's for a washing machine repair. On the recommendation of my local hardware store, I contacted them to look at an issue with my washing machine. For over a month I have been dealing with a faulty repair, promises from the owners of follow up that never happens, inaccurate stories about the nature of the issue, and the worst experience on a home repair I have ever experienced. My machine is much worse now and they have done nothing to address the issue. I will be filing a complaint to the company and then to the better business bureau in Ontario. As someone who believes in supporting local business, this is a wake-up call to read about the experiences of others. I hope that by writing I have at least saved others the same issue.

Dishwasher Not working

I have a 10 year old dishwasher that leaked on the floor.I called Butler and advised them that I was unsure of doing a repair or purchasing a new dishwasher. They advised it may be cheaper to repair verse purchasing .
I asked the cost of a Sevice Call to my home, to inspect the machine.
I was told that a service call would be $50.00, so for the cost of the call was reasonable to assist in our decision .
The service man arrived, made his suggestions to me and then provided me with a bill for $80.00 plus tax. I advised him of my previous conversation, he stated that $50 was for his travelling time and $30 is for his actual time on the premise.
I called the office and questioned the billing. I was informed that it's there policy.
Not Impressed by there hidden fees. The service man was nice, but I won't be dealing with Butler Appl , again
For a company that has been around for years, I would have expected a polished approach and delivery of information correctly.

BEWARE of Butler's Appliance Service

BEWARE! I wish I had read the negative Homestar reviews for this place before deciding to take our microwave in. I advise you to read them … they accurately convey the terrible customer service, lack of expertise, unethical attitude and waste of money you will more than likely experience in your dealings with this operation. The problem with our microwave was a simple door switch that needed repair, but we were still able to use it and the microwave DID work! When we brought it in, we were told it was a common problem that would only cost us $70 to have repaired. We had to pay them a $25 deposit. Two weeks later, we were told that the power board was now broken and it would cost over $500 for them to replace it. I asked why they had even fiddled with the power board when the problem was with the door switch. The guy acknowledged that the switch was still broken! We brought our newly broken microwave to another repair shop. The man there noticed the door switch had simply been sprayed with WD40. He said the power board wouldn't have broken on its own and that it had been tampered with and/or replaced with one Butler may have had hanging around the shop. In the end, this OTHER repair shop fixed the switch AND the newly broken power board for only $255 in total … less than half the price Butler's had quoted! Btw, Butler's ALSO took a $25 deposit JUST TO LOOK at a TV power cord we wanted a replacement for and to tell us they didn't have a replacement. SO … $50 to have them break our microwave and tell us they don't have a replacement for our power cord. I can imagine they'll reply to this one by citing the many years you've been in business. That just doesn't cut it.

Electronic repair

Horrible. They scrapped my item after "non-pick up", telling me they phoned me. They had written down my phone number on the work order incorrectly. I brought in the unit in January and paid for an estimate. I phoned in March to check on status. They said they were waiting for a part. I phoned again in April and May...still waiting for part. I stopped in at the end of June and was told my item was scrapped. It was worth $200. Likely they sold it. No compensation, no apology, not even my $25 deposit returned. Just a shoulder shrug.
And be aware, they are not open on weekends. Nice life.

Dryer Repair - Or so I thought

An absolute rip-off this company is. I called Butler's to come and repair a belt on a dryer. There was a base service call fee of $50 which I had no problem with. I understand it takes their time to come and assess the job.

Upon arrival, the technician was not even in the house 5 minutes, did not even open the dryer to look at it, turned it on for about 5 seconds and offered a quote of $350. When I asked to explain what needed to be repaired I was told a blower motor was needed - yet the dryer was blowing and had heat.

Then the technician refused to even open the top of the dryer and look in it to show me what needed to be repaired. Said I would be charged more time and money to do that.

Then the surprise that another $10 was being charged to just walk in the house. The $50 was just to show up - no assessment of the problem. So $60 and they were not even willing to open the dryer and do any form of assessment.

Horrible customer service. The technician got to the point of raising his voice at me in my own house.

I would not recommend these people to my worst enemy.
