LG Refrigerator Repair

This is going to be a conflicting review, 1) Duc, the repair person is exceptional, 2) company telephone customer service skills are probably even worse than calling Bell or another company that transfers you to a third world country.

I wouldn't have even used their services but the original company I found through HomeStars had an injured LG repairman and they referred me to The Appliance Service People, so I was stuck.

I called a number of companies I found through HomeStars and none of them returned phone calls.

A few of the things I didn't like about this company:

1) They call the $65 service call a "deposit"
2) Once the problem is diagnosed, they don't really tell you the price. Duc approximated that it would be about $200. I took a photo of the error message so already knew what the problem was.

I told Duc that if the part is $200 or more, let me know because I'll buy a new fridge instead of trying to fix this one.

After all is said and done, a part that costs $20 and 90 minutes of Duc's labour, the final bill was close to $250.

I completely forgot I printed out the $35 coupon, but my guess is that they pad their invoices to accommodate the coupon -- so Duc got a $35 tip is the way I'll have to look at it.

Gas Stove Repair

Had to pay for 2 initial service calls ($56.50 and $35.00). They came, looked at our gas stove, then I had to hound them for next step. After 2 months I called back AGAIN and they tell me that I should order the part they told me they ordered 2 months ago. Terrible service, grumpy on the phone, waste of time.

Dryer repair

I received same-day service (within 2 hours of my call) for my dryer. The repairman (Duc) was quickly able to identify the problem and replace the damaged part. He was courteous and efficiently completed the repair within 30 minutes. The one thing I would recommend is that an approximate cost be communicated to the customer before going ahead with the repair. I was willing to pay, but the $35 company coupon on the website came in handy in the end!

Washing mashine

Like others have commented, they instantly give a prohibitive estimate without spending any time to diagnose the problem. They then proceed to collect the service charge, and attempt to baloon it into some kind of additional charge for time spent diagnosting. Apparently this time is very expensive since they wanted to charge me $15 for about 30 sec worth of diagnosting. this is the first time you will hear about such charge, contraty to what is stated on their web site and what was confirmed when the appointment was booked. In my case this attempt was not successfull, so the technician commented that rich people should not mind being charged extra $50 or so here and there. When I called back to the office to complain I was met with a rude response.
I made the mistake of looking them up in the phone book without checking any references or reviews. I usually do that but this was urgent. I will not make that mistake again. Stay away.
Yes, and their diagnostic was wrong.

$55.00

Dishwasher

I was quoted $35 for someone to come and see what the dishwasher needed. It turned out that it did not need anything, it was just the way we were loading it. $35 seemed fair to me, but they charged $69.

ASP was called to find out why the oven door would not unlock after the clean cycle.

An earlier expensive service call to another KitchenAid authorized company had failed to solve the problem of the oven door of my KitchenAid range failing to unlock at the end of the clean cycle. ASP came within 24 hours, immediately established that the earlier repair had not diagnosed the problem correctly, told me I would have to send the board out for repair ($400) since the part is no longer available, and that I would be without the use of the stove for 2 weeks; in the meantime the technician disconnected the leads that were causing the problem. The oven is now usable, but cannot be self-cleaned. The technician was knowledgeable, smart, efficient and courteous.

fridge repair

We called the company on an emergency basis, and selected someone at random from the yellow pages. They advertised same day service. In response to the call, no time was given for the service man to show up. When he did, he gave an cost estimate, and said he would return the next day between 10 and 12. This is not same day service. At 2 pm, he called and said he would be another hour. The repair was made at 3pm, and the compressor was noisy. The next morning, the fridge was not working, and when I called in to request service, the person who answered the call was rude to me, and gave a time as only "before 1pm". He refused to give the technician's number so I could do something during the morning. If I had the time to research repair companies, I would never have chosen this firm.

Refrigerator Repair

Our GE Profile fridge died, we called these guys (during the holidays) they came... and the service call was inexpensive... but you get what you pay for. It just so happens that they didn't bother diagnosing the problem. They said it was the main board, but... that's been changed and that wasn't the problem. To make matters more insulting, when we told them this they said they had to RE Replace the main board ($350) even though it is brand new (direct from GE appliance centre) and that we would also need a new compressor, which they would be willing to do for "probably" $600.... in the end, they came, they saw an opportunity to cash in fast, and then they left. I'm glad I kicked them out. Try a higher rated company... Toronto has enough people trying to con you out of a buck.
