Excellent Sales Service - Chris Errington

Needed our furnace/air conditioner serviced was provided with steller customer service by Boonstra sales representative Chris Errington. He was very helpful as to provide the benifits of both services. We have returned the last three years as a direct result of the quality service provided by Chris. What is missing in most companies is good old fashioned customer service, my wife and I are thankful for his continued assistance. Would definatley recommend this company to family!

Boiler Maintenance

Beware....

I had been using Boonstra One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning for the past 5 years. Under contract, have been providing an annual "cleaning" for the boiler. It wasn't until the carbon monoxide level exceeded 300 ppm, that they actually took the cover off and cleaned the inside of the unit. Up until that point, a light dusting of the outer housing was all they seemed to do.

When the unit completely broke down in February, they missed their scheduled appointments, and took over a week to get the unit hobbling along. I asked for a quotation on a replacement unit, but it was never provided.

In total frustration, I had another HVAC contractor remove the boller and replace it with a new unit. Then the BIG surprise. Since I no longer needed the Boonstra One Hour Heating annual service agreement when I tried to cancel it, they said that I had to pay for the entire balance of the year, even though they were no longer involved. The Boonstra "Customer Advocate" wasted hours of my time trying to convince me that I should pay the extra $200 for service that I wasn't going to get. Eventually, I got a call from their president who told me that he disagreed with my refusal to pay the extra fee, but would cancel the invoice before I started legal action.

In summary .... What a complete waste of my time and money!

Furnace Repair

They responded to my FIRST call with no problem, however after the FOURTH call the second technician finally got the job done! It was very difficult to actually get someone to repair the job. The first technician had no idea how to fix the problem. Based on the time of year the response time was unacceptable! Only with certain compromises would I use these guys again. product knowledge must be better!

Furnace and AC

The experience I had with Mr. Errington was easy and efficient and we are more than happy with the comfort level in our home. I would recommend anyone looking for HVAC systems to use Boonstra's One hour and especially ask for Chris Errington. You will not be disappointed.

New Furnace Purchase- residential

Our furnace required immediate replacement during the winter. Boonstra came out and gave us a quote of about $6100.00 for replacement. If we signed the deal NOW we would save another $ 400.00 - the cost of a government inspection in order to get a Gov`t rebate. This offer was not possible if we did not sign a contract immediately. Pressure sales !

The next day we contacted Hamco and received a quote of $ 3900.00 - all in, minus government rebate which would reduce the bill by another $ 600.00. In fact, the Hamco furnace would actually be a larger capacity unit than the one offered by Boonstra.

Don`t be pressured by Boonstra to sign a quick deal. Make sure to get a second quote. Save big money.

Company Response

It is difficult to respond to this based on the limited facts. For example, how do you know that it was the right decision by Hamco to suggest a larger furnace? Larger is not always better…, in fact, an oversized furnace can lead to premature failure and uncomfortable heating cycles. There are many different types of different furnaces with different options and respectively, prices will range. In addition, the largest component to any investment in a home comfort system is the installation. It is difficult for many consumers to compare “apples to apples” as a result. In fact, a contractor can cut corners in installation (materials, sheet metal, customer design, and quality of labor). Typically, we find there is only one way for something to be cheaper, that is for it to be just that — cheaper. To the comment about a same day bonus, we offer something called an efficiency bonus. This is often offered when we can maximize our capacity, providing installation work to our crews in which we employ. In addition, by being able to provide a efficiency bonus, allows us to help satisfy the client the same day so that we can book our comfort advisor on another visit with another homeowner another day. This is not intended to be “pressure”, just a fact of business that by helping us with our efficiency, we are able to help our clients with a small bonus. With guarantees like our 2 year satisfaction guarantee, our clients can never lose! It states that if you are unsatisfied with the performance of your home comfort system, we will actually make any modifications up to replace the system at no charge in order to meet your needs. With a guarantee like that, this is why we believe we are voted as number one in our industry by the community year after year in the readers choice awards.

I am sorry that you were not happy with our proposal and I do hope your decision is one that actually helps you save “big money” in the long term.

duct cleaning

Overall, the quality of the work was great; my ducts are clean and I am satisfied with that work. But there were a lot of details missing that could have made this a perfect 10.

1. On first visit the vent covers weren't put back properly; one was fell and I found on the floor. If there was an issue with putting them back no one bothered to explain it to me, as if I wouldn't notice.

2. The company prides itself with "we're on time or it's free". The workers were 10 min late, which I didn't complain about but there was no offer of apology or even mention of it.

3. I called a few days later about the vent covers and they sent the same people back within half an hour. They spent an hour and a half fixing the problem. While working, I came to find that they used my ladder without asking. It was ok to use but they should have asked first. And it wasn't until I made a comment that they put it back where they found it.

4. They didn't leave things as they found them. While they worked in the basement (which is where I work) they moved a matress and furniture. I had to move them back myself.

5.I had to clean up after them. There was some dirt and dust from the drilling that they did.

What could this company do to improve their services?
The same level of customer service that is offered when you call on the phone should be offered by the people that come to your home.

Fixing my A/C

I RARELY use a/c...mostly because of how my condo is situated, the temperature is pretty level at all times.

Of course, it's the middle of the heat wave in Ontario and I decide to turn on the A/C. We were also going to have a bunch of workers coming in a few days to come and work on our floors and I thought that there was no way they could work in that heat.

When I called Boonstra's they came in 24 hours. They were much later than the time frame but at least they came. It was 10:30pm and the guy came. In my experience if a contractor is that behind he calls to reschedule.

I live in a condo so the unit is on the roof but we didn't know which one exactly. It was very dark outside but the guy stayed nd tried to figure out which one it was.

He wasn't able to (it was waaay too dark) so he promised that they would come first thing in the morning. I said 8am and they were here at 8am.

When he got here he spent the time to figure out which unit was ours and ended up fixing the problem right on the spot. He was super nice and very thorough.

What could this company do to improve their services?
The only draw back was the initial fee for coming out. The problem was about a 5 min fix (loose wire) but we spent almost $300 on it. In comparison it would have been 10x to replace the unit but the initial fee for just coming out is a bit high. Still worth it though.
