chimney and gas liner repairs

We could smell smoke in the basement by the furnace but only when we lit a fire in the fireplace on the floor above - we weren't sure who to call about this but saw a Walter Townshend & Sons Chimney truck at the neighbours and paid them a visit. Walter dropped by later in the day and discovered that the liner in the basement had rusted through in one little spot and the chimney had lost some of its pieces at the top. They put up the scaffolding required to get up and between the houses the next day and liner was installed and the chimney was fixed. Problems solved- no fuss, no muss. The work crew was extremely polite and picked up little bit before they left. It is almost unusual these days to have such a positive repair experience - these guys were great.

gas fireplace install

I found this company very knowledgeable and professional. I didn't really know what I was getting into with my fireplace and gas line install, but Walter and his sons walked me through every step of the job and made sure I was comfortable and always informed. I was very happy with the work and felt comfortable having them in my home.
Very nice family

Chimney Liner Replacement and Chimney Retuck/New Cap

My mother's furnace stopped working at the onset of the cold fall nights. Ron from Walter Townshed & Son Inc. came the same day we called them for an estimate on the problem. Our old aluminum liner venting our chimney from the furnace was decrepit and falling apart. Our furnace stopped working because of blockage (leaves). After a few other estimates and conversations, we realized Walter Townshed would be the best choice. They came a few days later after we offered them the job. They were prompt and came right at the time and day they said they would (Oct 5th 10:00 am) and were all finished by 12:00 noon. They replaced the liner, ensured the chimney had no blockage, and cemented the liner in place so that nothing would fall through the cracks. They took down the water damanged bricks off our chimney, retucked and sealed the rest of chimney to prevent further water leakage, and put on a new chimney cap to ensure that the whole thing would stay secure. There were 4 guys at our house at one point; they were expedient and efficient, and left the place spotless. They even gave my mother the old bricks for her garden when she asked for them.
This is a family business and it shows that they truly do care about their business, the quality of their work, and keeping their customers happy; their price was very fair and they gave us a proper receipt outlining their work, with a 10 year warranty on the liner. My mother (who is not fluent in english) is very happy with the care and respect they gave to her and her home. We would recommend this company to anyone. Thank you to Walter, Derek, Ron for taking the time to answer our questions as concerned home owners, and for doing a fantastic job on her home.

Repair and inlay of liner and venting in exisiting fireplace.

They came to do work at my families house in Rosedale, and made a complete mess of the house twice. The drapes and ceiling were imbedded with smoke, as they installed a fireplace liner and fittings incorrectly, and then tested it. When they were unable to correct the problem with the fireplace/chimney, they got irritable and told a member of our extended family, who was onsite to oversee the work being done, that she was not being truthful when she mentioned that there had never been an issue with smoke coming out before until the liner was put in. All in all, their behaviour and lack of professionalism was atrocious, and we recommend you stay well clear of them. They have, as of yet, to refund even a portion of the money paid them for a job they never came close to completing, and they refused to pay for the cost of cleaning both the drapes and the ceiling of soot which they were responsible for twice.

Chimney rebuild and liner replacement

The chimney was starting to fall apart so I started getting prices from contractors. John McTaggart of Walter Townshend & Son Inc. was very knowlegeable over the phone and gave me a competitive quote. While doing the work they discovered that my chimney liner did not extend all they way out above the roof, which posed a risk of gases being released into the attic space. We agreed on a price to replace the chimney liner. They completed the entire job approximately within a week. Overall I was happy with the work they did.

Chimney rebuild

Walter and company were very professional from the outset to the completed job. No muss, no fuss, no pressure, straight up estimate (unlike the other guys who want to book an appointment with your family to discuss the work - I mean, really?) Arrived and started the work when they said they would. Courteous staff, took the time to answer any and all questions. Efficient and thorough, meticulous and were careful to keep everything neat and tidy... these guys even did a favor for my neighbour! After the work was complete, they left the place spotless.

*** Best of all, Walter had the most reasonable price compared to all the quotes I got (and I'm guessing better than the one quote i'm still waiting to get from one of the top listed companies on homestars!)

If you need repairs to your chimney, you have to call Walter... though not the top listed company on homestars.com, his company is definitely #1 in Toronto!

Chimney, duct & other repairs

Walter Townshend dropped by to see what we had to be repaired and gave us a reasonable quote. A couple weeks later" weather permitting", they repaired the chimney, fixed our duct & other repairs to our external walls. They were excellent. I would definitely use them again.
