VCG was fired after 6 weeks on site. City planning dept required house plans to be re-drawn at an additional cost to myself. As a
result toilet drain had to be relocated once wall went up as toilet seat would have been 2 inches inside wall. Toilet drain did not have enough room between wall and drain (oops... That's
what happens when 2 ft are missing!)

Company Response

Although we at Vancouver General Contractors are saddened to hear that we have a unsatisfied customer, we did finalize the project on terms that was fair to both parties as outlined by a mutual agreement form we both signed. The 12 week basement renovation required structural work and relocation of mechanical systems (plumbing, HVAC, electrical). All of the structural, plumbing and electrical work was passed by city inspectors, engineers and drawn to exact specs of the basement layout - we have complete documentation on file. We are a little confused to why the city of Vancouver would request the basement plans to be re-drawn. The only thing we can think of is the client was looking to change the layout of the design. Once all "rough" work and city inspections were completed, the client respectfully asked to dissolve the contract, in order to bring in an independent contractor to complete the much simpler finish work (drywall, flooring, paint etc). This is where the relationship took a rough turn. Although all our work passed inspections, VGC can not warranty work that has been completed by another contractor (any re-framing against the original plans etc.). For the record, the mentioned drain and all underground plumbing systems were correctly installed, sloped and inspected by city officials to exact city plumbing code requirements. This documentation is readily available. VGC puts months of detailed preparation into a 12 week, $100k + project so it is not as simple as walking away from a project with numerous hours of time spent by the designers, project managers and estimators.
