Basement Lowering and Underpinning

Like many others in my neighbourhood, when my family needed more space we considered moving (near the height of the market, so no) or adding more space to our home. We struggled to find a contractor, but one came highly recommended - True North. Thankfully, we followed that advice, and could not be happier.

Daniel, the owner, is terrific to deal with. He knows what he's talking about and came in on budget, except where our choices added some costs (e.g., moving the water main). Josh, the site manager, made sure that everything needed for the project was there, and on time, and that any issues were addressed immediately (e.g., I had a broken water main shutoff, he got the city out almost right away).

But, the real joy of the experience was the crew that did the work. The foreperson, Keith, is amazing. Nothing phases him, and he never stops putting in maximum effort. On day one of the project, they removed my front window for access, and it turned out that the window was structural (in case you don't know, that should NOT be the case). Removing the window forced bricks to fall, and the wall to start caving in - but the crew immediately got it shored up, and came up with a solution for the longer term. At that point, I knew I had the right people.

The crew (Matt and Gage, in addition to Keith) were incredibly friendly, polite, and hard-working. Most telling, they developed great relationships with my neighbours, as well as my family, meaning that I did not have to deal with complaints.

Overall, would highly recommend this company (and ask for Keith).

Waterproofing basement

True North waterproofed our basement from the inside, including sump pump and back water valve, relocated the gas line and laid down a new cement floor. Their plumber subcontractor replaced all the plumbing under the floor and roughed in the plumbing for the washroom and laundy room. Daniel, Richelle and everyone from True North were great to work with. They communicated very well with us about when and how the work would be done, and answered all our questions clearly and patiently. The team of workers was punctual, polite and left the site in a clean and organized condition everyday. The end results are great, the basement is dry and level and clean, ready for finishing. We would definitely hire them again to do the same job. Lucinda and Roy

Hi Lucinda and Roy,

It's great to have easy jobs like yours, and easy going clients. Thank you for mentioning Richelle in this review. Without her we would be lost as a business. It was a pleasure working with you and thank you for your patience while we waited for the locates to be done for the water line replacement.

Basement Underpinning

From the planning stages to the finished product, we couldn't be happier with choosing True North. Daniel is a straight shooter who does not over-promise nor under-deliver, instead he is honest, transparent and communicates effectively. John & Fernando's team couldn't be better - professional and respectful. Additionally, they leave the work site and your property clean and organized, every day. Choose True North Underpinning to trim the fat and get a job well done. The job was delivered on time and on budget. We are so happy we chose to work with True North and recommend them to anyone who looking to have underpinning done.

Best waterproofers in the city!

Daniel and his crew are amazing. I have used them to waterproof basements during two renovations. They are not only priced fairly, they are professional, respectful and a pleasure to work with. Communication regarding scope of work and budget is the best. No surprises. Daniel seems to really appreciate your business and is a knowledgeable, caring and personable guy. He hires like minded people who are reliable and kind. I would not use any other company other than True North for my waterproofing needs. They are an excellent company and I would highly recommend them.

Partial basement underpinning

We hired True North after obtaining a few quotes, and their price was very competitive. We figured since they were local, it would be beneficial. The management, communication, punctuality, professionalism, and speed of the crew was outstanding. They did a great job with our underpinning. You'll need to find someone to put your window back though!

Underpinning basement

Very happy with the work done by Daniel and his team from True North Underpinning. The workers were always here on time every single day and the job was done in the expected timeframe. The team did their best to keep dust in the basement by putting up plastic barriers and they kept the exterior clean after they finished working for the day. I expected there to be problems and there really wasnt anything major! Daniel also managed to put in a beam so we could have an open space and that wasnt an easy job. Thank you Daniel and team!

Basement Underpinning

Being in a small bungalow we considered a second story addition but after reviewing the costs, time and end result we decided to underpin our basement instead. Because of True North we made the right decision! You will not regret going with True North to underpin your basement. Our basement is now just as useable and comfortable as our main floor. We did the whole shebang with underpinning, beam replacement, waterline replacement and heated floors etc and couldn't be more pleased. The entire process was so professional, smooth and incredibly fast! The whole crew were the nicest and most hardworking I have ever experienced. Daniel, John, Stravos, Saul, Kelan and all the amazing rest, constantly went above and beyond. They treated our home as their own and genuinely wanted us happy with the result. The job was completed on schedule and as quoted. At no point did we feel stressed or concerned and in the end we got more space for way less money and time than building up. Thank you so much True North! We couldn't be happier!

Amazing work waterproofing and lowering my basement

I can not say enough good things about working with Daniel and his team from True North. I picked them because of how thorough, honest and patient Daniel was during my quote process- I trusted him immediately. But I had no idea how great the rest of his crew would be! It was pretty much the same team for the whole project and they were awesome- quiet, clean, funny- I loved having them around! Keith (the foreman I think?) brought dog treats in an ongoing attempt to convince our dog they should be friends which was very sweet. They even went in and out of the basement through the window (which is a feat in and of itself) to minimize disruption and dirt in the house, so really, aside from the first day were never upstairs! This really minimized the dust and disturbance (see above re: dog with attitude). The work was done on time, and they did a fantastic job. They also worked closely with my re-finishing contractor to coordinate and solve problems as needed (they do work together already and I got the refinisher's name from Daniel) which was an added bonus. It meant when they discovered weird things in the basement (as often happens when you renovate), I could make better decisions about what I wanted done with them in a coordinated, planned way that would make sense when the refinishing happened. My basement ceilings are 8 feet and dry as a bone and I am thrilled at how un-stressful an otherwise stressful project was. I could not recommend True North more highly!
