Worse Contract

I moved to my new home in 2012. When I moved in, a guy sent a furnace without saying that it was for rent. I signed on the paperwork, realizing that I had received it. However, it was a 10 year contract. I called NHS that I needed to pay over $6000 to terminate the contract as I already paid over $2000. I was told the original price is over $8000. How did it happen? Why did NHS charge a lot without anyone standing out to fight against the company? Their contract is worse to the new moved-in people. If I knew what would happen to me earlier, I would not have signed the contract 3 years ago. I was charged too much for the furnace and heater. I now pay around $100 per month. Let's calculate for 10 years, it will be over $11700. Terrible!!!

Leased Boiler

We purchased a house and inherited a lease of a tankless boiler from MorEnergy, which has since been bought out by National Home Services (NHS). The lease was through Maxium Financial. NHS is easily the most unprofessional company I have had the displeasure of dealing with. Firstly, they nearly always have "longer than average call volumes" - so count on waiting on hold a long, long time. Secondly, I have never been given such an incredible run-around by a service company. Our boiler has made a loud screaming noise ever since we bought the house. Over a 2-month period, NHS visited 5 times to try to repair it. Each time they made us sit around for a 4-hour window and showed up near the end (twice, they were no-shows entirely). After 2 months they were still not able to repair the unit. They then refused to let us out of our lease, insisting we had to sign a new contract with them to get a new boiler. I escalated it to their management and response times were extremely slow and full of red tape and run-arounds.

Hot water tank

I have been dealing with my hot water tank issue for over 8 months now with no end in sight. I have had problems for the last 8 months and honestly have made over 20 phone calls only to get a constant run around. the level of customer service that national home services provides has been nothing less than DISGUSTING? Was told they have ordered parts then told they don't make the parts no longer then told they will install a new one but want me to pay 10% more monthly on the already inflated prices. Now told they will replace unit if I sign a new contract at $110.00 per month. Outrageous. My advice STAY AWAY from them at all costs

water heater rental monthly bill error

I paid National Home Service December bill on Dec.19, 2014 for water heater rental, but I still received January bill on Jan.18 saying December bill not paid. Called many times, phone waiting time is very long, usually 20-30 minutes, but sometimes over 60 minutes. For a long time, they never called back to fix the bill error. I plan to keep calling in the next few weeks to correct the billing error. What a waste of time!

Water heater

National Home Services came to my door and had me believe they were associated with my present service provider. I bought it! After a couple of years I had the heater removed and they continue to bill me 6 months after! They also flooded my furnace room when removing the heater by not capping it off correctly. I have called twice and they still bill me. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY

Rental Water Tank

We inherited this tank from previous owners since 2012. Never once did we get any maintenance call, but this year (2014)we have the water coming murky & very hot. When we called for service the call centre says they only come once in 5yrs and right now they cannot book the service as the tank is not broken down & it is not 5 yrs since we moved in irrelevant of the tank when last it was inspected. After much persuassion, when they finally agreed to sent the techinican we were given a time frame of 4-8pm whrein the tech never came , then it was rescheduled to next day 8am -12noon, again the tech never arrived nor called to infrm. After repeated calls to the call centre to chk on the status, they reschduled it yet another time for 4pm - 8pm. My husband was on loss of pay leave for all this appointments waiting for the tech, whereas if the technician comes and finds nobody at home, we were advised they would bill us CAD 50.00 for the no-show. Until I am writing this review , we are still waiting for the tech to arrive. The after service is horrible I have ever experienced in years. The first oppourtunity and i will switch any time and bring this up in as many review sites as possible to get the msg thru to all home owners to be BEAWARE OF THIS COMPANY.

Tankless water heater installation and rental

We purchased a home with a tankless water heater rental that had been installed by National Home Services through Enbridge. When looking into renovating and upgrading some hvac systems in our new home we discovered that the water heater had been installed with many safety code violations which could have resulted in carbon monoxide poisoning. It took a great deal of time and effort on our part to get National to agree to release us from the rental contract (that came with the house) so we could have the water heater removed. The only reason I gave them a "1" instead of a "0" is because they did eventually agree to release us from the rental contract without penalty.

Water Tank

When our water tank ruptured, we called and the service repairman came to inspect the tank. Ash, was awesome, but had to break that bad news: the water tank was done. He recommended we call head office to find out what our options are on a new tank. We have 2 years left on the contract, and normally the service provider would simply install a new tank. But not National Home Services. They are now saying that the new terms and conditions (that we've never received) state that the contract is for the lifetime of the tank. Technically, that means we no longer have a contract. But that's not how National sees things. They feel we MUST lock into another lifetime contract to complete our previous contract with 2 years remaining. The other option is to buy out the contract and buy my own water tank.

They're simply enforcing whatever contract is most financially beneficial to them, with no regard for the customer. The Ontario Ministry of Consumer Services doesn't agree with them or their contract enforcement.

The lesson here: Buy your water tank. Don't subject yourselves to such predatory contracts. If in doubt, check with the ministry about a service before committing to any contract.
