Drain Stack, Sewer Line, Backwater Valve, Sump Pump, and Replacement of Lead Pipe Service Line

We moved into an old house over year ago. We knew there were some plumbing issues that needed to be tended to, such as the lead pipe replacement. Needless to say, we were not at all looking forward to finding the right plumber and having the work undertaken.

The need to get things taken care of suddenly accelerated this Spring when we discovered a leak in the old cast iron drain stack. Couldn't put it off any longer, and began the search for the right plumber.

I received estimates from 4 companies. The price quoted by one of them was double what all the others quoted, so I eliminated them from my consideration set. The three remaining all had estimates fairly close to each other, with WaterGuard's being just a little bit less. That was both a plus and a con. I mean, obviously I wanted to save money, but I didn't want anybody to cut corners. I wanted a quality job done.

I looked over the reviews for all the companies. WaterGuard's reviews were the best and now I understand why. I am so impressed with their operation! During the first phase when we were getting estimates, their representative (Mike) gave me the best explanations of what needed to be done, and why. I didn't want one of those situations where someone hits a snag and it ends up costing you more. Mike explained everything including what the potential snags could be and how they would approach them if the need arose.

The job itself was a huge job. They had to do a lot of digging underground through the basement floor and outside our main entrance to get adequate access to the both the sewer line and the old lead pipe service line. They managed to keep the large piles of soil/ground contained in plastic sheets and after three days, when all was finished, they did a fantastic job of cleaning everything up.

Oh, I also had them install a new toilet for me while they were here. Mike picked it up for me from Home Depot on his way here and installed it without any extra charge. it works wonderfully and with the new drain stack and sewer line, the water is flushing faster from both toilets, tub, sinks.

The water volume entering the house has increased due to the wider diameter pipe in the service line. There has been a slight but welcome increase in the water pressure in the house. Hopefully when the City replaces their portion of the service line, the water volume/pressure will increase even more. If not, and we have to get the old risers replaced, I know who I'm calling! WaterGuard has certainly earned my trust.

So it was a huge job and they finished within budget. And another thing that I have to mention is that Mike was so helpful with the City's paperwork. Getting the building permits for the backwater valve, and applying for rebate programs was not a straightforward process but Mike helped out with that side of things too and that is greatly appreciated!

Approximate cost of services:
$12,000.00
