Matthew removed old stairs and built new ones. He even stained the top of each stair to look like the hard wood floors. He also built shelving under the stairs for which we continuously receive compliments. He made great use of the space. In addition, he rebuilt the fireplace mantle to suit our style. He was professional at all times - he included computerized sketches of the work prior to beginning. He was always clean and courteous. I wish everyone showed the same respect and had the same degree of craftsmanship. I would highly recommend him.

We have hired Matt to complete many woodworking projects for us over the years. Recently, we had him build two custom built-ins incorporating several types of storage including hanging space, drawers and shelving. The overall style of the cabinetry fits in seamlessly with that of our house. Part of the project included combining the space from two existing closets in order to maximize the storage space in one of the bedrooms. As as result, we lost some linen storage in the hallway. Matt's corner cabinet linen storage solution was perfect and adds a beautiful focal point in our hallway. Matt built us a beautiful oak two story staircase railing on budget, on time and with minimal interference with the rest of the household. My sister says it is a work of art, the way it matches our Edwardian house so well. We would certainly employ him again, and in fact have already done so. He has built us a deck, a fence and bathroom cabinets.

From start to finish it was a positive experience working with Matt. He was patient and an active listener when first providing a quote for the job. He listened to our goals for the space and created designs to share and help visualize the work he was proposing. Because he is able to create everything from scratch we were able to get the exact dimensions to maximize our small space. He kept an extremely tidy work space when on site and always cleaned area at the end of the work day. His attention to deal and the quality of the work completed is amazing. We hired Matthew to install custom closets in our older home in Bloor west village. From the moment we engaged Matthew we were impressed with his honesty and professionalism. He gave us three options for designs and we were able to select the option that best suited our budget. We also had a baby on the way and he worked well within our short timeline. We have a two storey townhouse that needed a complete renovation. Matthew came to a meeting, listened carefully to our needs and desires and came back with a thoughtful, creative design/plan of action, that would achieve the desired effect. This started with a complete transformation of a small bedroom into a TV/office/dressing room. Sounds like a lot for one 10' x 10 ' room, but he did it and it's visually beautiful and totally practical. The kitchen was next which needed to be updated and made more stylish. New cupboard fronts, special drawer installations, new backsplash and marble counter top, plus new appliances were implemented. Then he designed a beautiful, moveable, wood island piece that incorporated a wine rack and shelving for pots/pans and cookbooks. We use this every single day and it's perfect for entertaining. Included in this renovation was a tall, front hall storage unit , a large bookshelf (floor to ceiling) in the master bedroom and a custom piece of furniture built to house linen in the hallway. Add to this new pot lights on both floors, new crown moldings, new carpet and finally a complete paint job and we were done. Matthew managed our expectations in a timely manner and he and his team were incredibly tidy. We did live in our home the entire time so this was very important. The cost we have approximated represents the design, the millwork and the project managing, which was fair and competitive. We would highly recommend Matthew to anyone interested in this type of renovation. Creative, congenial, timely and thorough certainly describes our experience with working with Matthew Tormey.

My living room fireplace was an eyesore and totally out of keeping with the style of my living room. Matt created a perfect design, in keeping with the age of my house and style of furnishings. I'm delighted.

Matt is punctual and cleans up efficiently. He is also very pleasant to have in the house.

We have now worked with Matt for two custom renovation projects and could not have been more thrilled with the results. In our former home Matt designed absolutely stunning custom bookshelves in the living room and a spectacular vanity (complete with electrical outlets and flattering lights!) in the master bedroom. Both spaces had some unusual quirks but he worked around them to the extent that you would never know those 'problems' had ever been there. We were so in love with the vanity unit that when we moved homes, we had him build us another!

He is truly gifted at what he does and is incredibly professional, trustworthy and dependable. It's not easy to let someone into your house to work (particularly since you can't be there all the time) but with Matt I have absolutely no hesitations.
