Full window replacement with Milgard ultra fiberglass

This review is more about Milgard windows (bought through this rep), however, North shore doors who sold us these windows were slow to communicate and ultimately we needed to resolve warranty issues ourself. Very poor quality control on fiberglass ultra windows. We are doing a full reno of a west coast modern house (Vancouver Canada) - replaced around 40 windows with fiberglass ultra (supposed to be their highest quality window). Total cost was around $130,000 (we have many floor to ceiling, max size windows). Also replaced 4 large sliding doors with ultra fiberglass, at around $10,000 per door. Of the 40 windows (bought in three phases), 5 needed to be fully replaced under warranty because they would not open/close correctly due to warped fiberglass frame or came with scratched glass (this was confirmed by the warranty tech). Worst part of all of this - same experience as others in this thread - Milgard has a lifetime warranty but timeline for warranty repairs are literally YEARS. It took around 12 months to get our warranty issues resolved EVERY time we had a new phase of windows installed. We deeply regret being suckered by the promise of a lifetime warranty. From our experience their business model is to shorten their lead times (relative to their competition) by compromising on quality, and then deal with the issues on site through their warranty. To give them credit, they DID fix all the issues, now 3 YEARS later after the first windows were installed. Overall the quality of the fiberglass ultra is mediocre (poorly mitered seams, chipped fiberglass). Will never use Milgard again. Do yourself a favor and save a couple years of dealing with Milgard warranty claims. Also note that for western Canada, milgard laid off all their warranty staff, and they now contact out repairs (AJ Glass in North Vancouver) - the fact that they have a single guy doing all the repairs says a lot about how they intend to support their warranty. As a result, AJ Glass cannot possibly service all the warranty claims in a reasonable amount of time. If you do decide to go with North Shore Door and Milgard, I suggest you ask them to explain why they would recommend a product with such a bad warranty reputation and quality control. Our experience over the last three years tells me this is unlikely to change any time soon. Also know that despite North Shore Doors claims that they will help (they do try) but they are just a rep and have no sway to help resolve any of your warranty issues.

    Closet doors

Due to some poor work by our renovation contractor, our closet doors were very difficult to slide. North Shore Doors replaced the track and rollers with the correct heavy duty set. Now they slide without any effort, thanks to Daniel, a very nice and efficient man. Thank you so much for your great service.

    Garage door

We purchased a garage door from NorthShore Door. This door was manufactured by SteelCraft, a Canadian company. As it turned out, the glass in the door leaked and each section would become cloudy. This particular deflect was covered by a one-year warranty. After 3 years, the door was replaced at no cost to us. When we originally purchased the door, we insisted on buying locally and supporting Canadian companies. After the excellent service we received, our insistence was a wise decision. We are very grateful there are still companies with employees that take care of their clients with or without warranties. Thank you very much NorthShore and SteelCraft. Bill C

Sliding Glass Door and installation of new windows

The work that North Shore did for us was outstanding. The installation of a new wall of windows and sliding glass door into our garden was done as scheduled, on budget, with excellent craftsmanship, as well as maintaining a clean worksite. It was a pleasure to work with the excellent people at North Shore Door.

Replacement of window in heritage home

North Shore Door replaced a window in a 1910 heritage home where the installation was complicated. They were able to obtain the right window and the installation finishing was done extremely well. I would certainly recommend Northshore Door.

Thank you for your review Kevin. We are glad to hear that you are satisfied with your windows and the installation.

Not professional. Bad quality. Damaged products poor after care

The ordering was complicated and time consuming The order that came was 1. Incorrect (they sent wrong doors) - Now corrected 2. Several items were (and some still are) damaged - Front door they simply refuse to look at - Patio door they assigned to Milgard who still have not contacted me after 2 months 3. Patio Screen was damaged (not corrected) 4. After care guy was really not that interested in helping 5. Charged $500 to deliver to Bowen Island and sent ONE guy to off load (its only a 20 min ferry ride) Struggled to offload it BIG TIME Dealing with this company was more trouble than it was worth - I would not recomend these at all. I was hoping to pay for quality and I still do not feel I got this My advice - move on and look elsewhere.

    Very helpful service

I had a problem with some of the handles on my Milgard Windows not working properly. Brayden at North Shore door was super helpful in trying to go back in to catalogues to find the matching handles, since the style has changed since our original installation. Really appreciated the helpfulness of the staff.

    Front double doors new look

Old front doors in terrible conditions. John & Colin at N.S. Door helped select the perfect doors & sidelites. Removed old doors without any damage to indoor/outdoor tiles. Great installation done in one day. Doors look great & very happy with end result.
