Magnolia Construction

Magnolia helped me design and completely transform my small century home. I have been thrilled with the results after opening and updating the space. With the team uncovering some unexpected surprises as walls were being opened up (the house was built in 1904 so there were more than a few!) they always kept me informed and found solutions that worked within both my design goals and budget. I wouldn’t hesitate to hire magnolia for future projects.

I hired Magnolia for a full bathroom renovation with design services provided by their designer. I paid my first deposit months before work started with the agreement that work would be completed by the end of November, 2020.

Project management was poor and the project was completed on March 22, 2021.

Tile work was good. Vanity counter top was installed a bit crooked. White paint did not fully cover primer in some areas. Toilet paper holder was overlapped slightly by the towel rack causing towels to interfere with toilet paper.

The plumber they subcontracted installed the shower faucet knob backwards, so hot was cold and cold was hot. The plumber also installed this knob so that it spun freely, even though it was designed to stop at certain points. The plumber initially came back to fix both issues, but was only able to fix the hot/cold issue, even though both were said to be fixed. After coming back again the plumber was finally able to fix the faucet install so that it did not freely spin.

The biggest issues, even bigger than the project management and timeline issues, came from their designer who they work with, Kelly at Unique Spaces. If you are considering working with Magnolia, I strongly recommend against working with Unique Spaces.

We employed Magnolia Construction for our renovation and would highly recommend their services.
Before hiring Magnolia, we were at wits end- dealing with tradespersons who overpromised and underdelivered. Jobs were left unfinished, and, in some cases, needed to be ripped out and restarted.
Joey, Claudio, and the Magnolia team put an end to the anxiety and uncertainty by arriving on time, performing according to agreed-upon specifications, and meeting budget expectations.
Magnolia is professional in their approach, and genuine in their desire to satisfy their clients.
It’s no surprise that they were entrusted to work on the Chateau Laurier and Notre Dame basilica.
We would gladly use their services again.

When we decided to renovate our 18 yr old home rather than move, we knew we wanted to have one contractor that we could rely on to advise us with their experience, coordinate the project with their connections, and take care of inevitable issues and problems that we would face. But most importantly, we needed to find someone who we could trust with our vision, and who we connected with.

When we met with Joey from Magnolia Construction it was apparent right away that he placed a high value on his customers; he made their satisfaction a prime concern. He expertly walked us through what we could expect and patiently answered all of our concerns. When we made our decision, the uncertainty made it stressful, but we had little doubt that we were in good hands.

Our experience completely validated that confidence. Through the design process of the kitchen layout, to the selection of tiles and fixtures, he helped shape and guide our ideas into a practical reality. And once the work began, it was clear that he had provided top-notch trades. Professional, courteous, and meticulous, they all contributed to a high quality outcome that exceeded our expectations.

Joey’s best strength is as a communicator; highly personable and reliable, we always knew he could be reached or would promptly return calls, texts, or emails. That went a long way to relieving our concerns as our project progressed, and was never more important than when difficulties arose. In each case, he dealt with the issue as if it was his own problem and made sure we were comfortable with the resolution.

In summer of 2020, during a pandemic lull, with a potty training 3 year-old and an 8 month-old, we realized that our lives would be made much easier if we had a powder room on the main level. Our 1920s home in Little Italy had a very small, closet type space at the top of our basement stairs where we tended to shove things, and we'd heard mention when we bought the house in 2016 that we could “sneak a powder room" in there. And so began our hunt to do just that.

We had numerous contractors through to scope out the job and provide estimates. One told us he “didn’t see it” and encouraged us to get other opinions, one had promising plans but never came through with a quote, and a few came through with great ideas/delayed estimates - but Magnolia came through promptly with a competitive quote and a commitment to get it done! Also part of the job was to tear out and replace the basement stairs, open up the wall of the living room, and completely renovate the bathroom on the second level. Shortly after we were committed to getting started Joey showed up with a lasagna - I can’t not mention that. Tasty!

Once the project was underway, the Magnolia team (Karen!) checked in with us regularly to see how we were doing and whether we needed anything. Given that we weren’t living at home throughout (our only bathroom under construction), Joey sent us pictures and video of the demolition - which was awesome to see. We were kept in the loop and consulted on major issues by his contractors while the work was underway. With our old home and the pandemic ramping up, inevitably, challenges and issues arose, and adjustments had to be made. But no matter what, Magnolia always found a way to make it right. When we moved home, the dust had settled, and we had a chance to live in it, we noticed a few issues. Joey heard us out, reviewed the issues with his team, and assured us it would be taken care of - which, of course, it all was.

We are so happy with the end result. I think so long as we live here we'll be thinking of what was there before and what it’s been replaced by. Sharing some before and after pictures so you can see for yourself! Thank you Magnolia for delivering such a beautiful remodel - we’re now in good shape to start potty training our youngest!

We feel so fortunate that we met Joey of Magnolia Construction and hired his capable team for our basement renovation. Kind, competent, creative, hard working — what a great experience! And our lower level looks great, complete with two new bedrooms, a family room, a kitchenette, a lovely bathroom, storage and more! Great attention to detail and respect for our needs.

What separated them from the rest was Joey's personal approach and the fact that he always communicates with clients, we had some issues on the job as we expected but Joey never passed the buck or made excuses , always fixed any issues that we may have had. He was clear and honest with the fact that they were going to be possibly some issues and if they were he'll be there to honour them by making it right and that's exactly what he did. We are very happy with the final result, we are very happy with the process of getting to our completed renovation and I would definitely recommend them again. It took a large team to finish our entire home and it was done within budget and timing even through this pandemic. I highly recommend this company

Joey and his team at Magnolia Construction gave us the bathroom of our dreams! We live in an old century home and space is limited, but the final product turned out amazing. The room feels twice as large. They only sent us seasoned professionals who did quality work. The project manager Kyle is very respectful and tidy. They stand behind the work they do and we couldn't be happier with the results. Joey is honest and reliable, a rare find in this industry. Excellent value for the money and top-notch service! We wanted to turn our basement into a master suite, and Magnolia Construction delivered! We had a number of quotes from different companies and decided to go with Magnolia because they were able to work within our budget and their communication was above the rest. Joey and his team gave us the basement of our dreams, including a bedroom, living area, 4 piece bathroom, coffee bar, and walk-in closet. We couldn't be happier with the outcome! Joey and his exceptional Magnolia team are completing our total home renovation, taking a 1902-built structure and bringing it up to date and up to code, while maintaining it’s character and charm!
