Experience with CCA

I first hired CCA to do my asbestos remediation; a small tile removal job and air testing which was more than satisfactory.

I decided to use them again for a basement paint job upon reading glowing reviews of their work - BIG MISTAKE, and I wonder if the other reviews are fake or if I was simply sent the most unprofessional painter they could find.

Most of the walls consisted of BRAND NEW DRYWALL. My husband and I had done all of the prep work and sanding; the walls only needed a fresh coat of primer and paint - 1 day of work maximum.

Already when I visited the property mid day, I was concerned - the paint looked uneven, there were patches and the paint for the steps did not look to be the colour I had chosen. However, the painter assured me that once dry, it would be flawless and showed me a swatch of the stairwell paint which did appear dark gray (what was requested). That evening, I visited the property again and at this point, the paint was mostly dry - DISASTER.

Firstly, the painter left behind a mess like I had never before seen with any contractor. There were no tarps or tape used and since the paint was sprayed onto the walls, white residue covered the unfinished steps, our hot water tank and my husband's tools in the storage space which was NOT being painted. Mr. Painter also turned one of my planters into an ashtray. As for the paint, it was uneven, patchy and not the flat finish I had requested. The steps had no cutting or taping implemented so the line from trim to wall was wonky. My brand new drywall obviously ruined, I doubt it was even primed before paint. I was upset, to say the least.

After speaking with Olti, I informed him that I just wanted the walls sanded down to fix their uneven texture as proceeding with any further painting could only make this outcome worse. He assured me this would be taken care. A few days later, the same worker arrived. Not only did he not do the sanding adequately, he insisted that the fault was in my walls even after I took him to other rooms of the home where the paint did not have the same horrid finish (painted by someone else) and since we did the prep, I knew very well what the walls looked like prior to the paint application.

In the end, we had to hire someone else to sand, re-prep and paint the entire basement again. Aside from the obvious issues, this whole process also set our reno project back by at least 2 weeks.

Approximate cost of services:
$1,800.00
