FAQ: Questions about furnace installation and replacement in Thornhill, Ontario

How long does a furnace installation in Thornhill, Ontario take?

Most furnace installations in Thornhill, Ontario take between four and eight hours, depending on the complexity of the job. If additional work is required, such as ductwork modifications or new venting, the project may take longer.

How do I know if I need a new furnace or just a repair?

In Thornhill, Ontario, as a general rule, if your furnace is over 15 years old and repair costs exceed 50% of the price of a new unit, replacement is usually the more cost-effective choice. Frequent breakdowns, rising energy bills, and uneven heating are also signs it may be time to replace.

What size furnace do I need for my Thornhill, Ontario home?

Furnace sizing is based on your home's square footage, insulation, ceiling height, and climate zone, and is measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units).

An undersized furnace will struggle to heat your home, while an oversized one will cycle on and off frequently, wasting energy and causing unnecessary wear. A furnace installation pro in Thornhill, Ontario can perform a proper load calculation to determine the right fit for your home.

What is AFUE and why does it matter?

AFUE stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency, and it measures how efficiently a furnace converts fuel into heat. A furnace with a 95% AFUE rating converts 95% of its fuel into usable heat, with only 5% lost.

The higher the AFUE rating, the lower your long-term energy costs, though higher-efficiency units typically come with a higher upfront price. If you need help choosing a unit with a high AFUE rating, HomeStars can help you find furnace installation specialists in Thornhill, Ontario who can advise.

Are there rebates or incentives available for furnace replacement in Thornhill, Ontario?

Yes, several programs exist to help offset the cost of a new high-efficiency furnace, including utility rebates from local providers and provincial programs available in most parts of the country.

Eligibility and amounts vary by province and the type of equipment installed, so it's worth checking what's available in your area before purchasing. Post your project on HomeStars to connect with furnace installation pros in Thornhill, Ontario who can help you navigate available rebates.
