Repair or maintain boiler- 30 Nov 2025

Unfortunately the company was sold to a bunch of clowns and now the new one is a nightmare. The folks that helped me with this one knew what they were doing. The new company DR HVAC hires rookies that do nothing but replace parts, not diagnose. Ended up costing me $700, because the first guy couldn't diagnose a bad start capacitor for my heat pump, which was $60.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our work. Detail matters from the first coat!

We contacted Filadelfia after working with three other contractors we weren't satisfied with. (The first one, a kitchen reno, cut all the ground wires during his install - no idea why. We found out a year later and had to rewire the kitchen. The second turned a month-long job into a 6 month saga. The third built a deck that we had to have fixed only a year later.) Needless to say, I was cautious. You can tell Rodney and his team were going to be different from the second you meet them. People of a certain age will understand what I mean when I say they are about the 'old school' service: They did exactly what they said they were going to do. They quoted and stuck to the quote. They kept their word. They did good work. They were respectful of the neighbours. They finished earlier than they promised. The whole package. Whereas other contractors would send one or two people, disappear for a few days, and then get back to it, there were usually 3 to 6 people from the Filadelfia team onsite the entire time. They wanted to get the job done - and done well - and get on to the next one. That's how I work, and I appreciate it in others. We have at least 4 more jobs to do, and we'll call Rodney for all of them.

We purchased our home 5 years ago which had a finished basement with ceilings at a max height of 6'. We knew that we wanted to underpin and had several companies offer quotes, but we weren't comfortable with any of them until we had Daniel from True North come by to assess the property and offer a quote. Daniel was there for over an hour during his initial visit and took the time to explain the process to us, offer ideas, and point out where we may encounter issues during the process. He was incredibly thorough and personable which made us feel at ease. The quote he provided was not the lowest, but it was very detailed and included considerations for issues that sometimes come up during the underpinning process and estimates for what it may cost if we ran into those issues. The work was slightly delayed as we had to jump through an extra hoop with the city due to our property being on ravine land but once we got the permit from the city, Daniel's team was able to start work almost immediately. From day 1 the team was professional, responsible and courteous. They were on time every single day, and were kind to our young kids and our somewhat anxious dog. We were nervous about the process, but it became clear quickly that the team were experts in what they do, and they were always happy to have us come downstairs and explain what they were doing. Our house is >100 years old so we anticipated running into issues during the process, but in the end the only unforeseen issue was related to lead water pipes which were quickly identified and replaced by the team. The anticipated timeline for the project was 4-6 weeks and they finished in exactly 4 weeks. A professional and hard-working team, A+ customer service, work completed on budget and ahead of schedule. I don't know why you'd look anywhere else if you're planning an underpinning project!

Repair or maintain roof or gutter- 2 Oct 2026

Alpine Roofing did an incredible job resolving an elusive, ongoing, intermittent leak that I had for years. If you want quality work from a team that truly understands all types of roofing scenarios and configurations, I highly recommend them. I've had many roofers over the years offer expensive blanket solutions. Alpine’s estimator, Mimi, had great instincts and was very thorough in his diagnosis, showing deep expertise across sloped roofs, flat roofs, flashings, and door seals. Rather than guessing, he conducted a targeted water test, pinpointing the leak at our top-floor patio door landing without needlessly tearing up other parts of the roof. From initial diagnosis to final completion, Alpine coordinated the door replacement, flat roof repair, and siding work seamlessly. The crew was professional and left the property spotless. Honest advice, fair pricing, true technical knowledge, and quality workmanship throughout.

I'd pretty well given up on hoping to find an honest and capable plumber in East York until we had the good fortune to connect with Alex at Dunkirk Plumbing & Heating. After what we've been through with several plumbers in the past year (exhorbitant pricing, hidden fees, insolent attitudes and, worst of all, finding out you're dealing with an unidentifiable, unreachable company instead of the plumbers themselves), Dunkirk Plumbing & Heating was a clearly brilliant find. Alex is straightforward, punctual, quick to understand what needs doing, and then efficient and meticulous performing the work. 5 stars all round.

WATERPROOFING Tired of mopping the water in your basement? Does your basement smell of mould and mildew? Is your foundation wall retaining water slowly and deteriorating? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then the following will describe the reasons why, and how, to eliminate the problem. The cause of your basement's musty smell is because your foundation wall is retaining water, be it in the hollow block cavities or trapped behind the double brick or stone wall, as well as the water that is absorbed by the block, brick and stone. This combination causes the wall to produce mould, mildew and epharecense. The water trapped in the wall slowly deteriorates the wall, starting at the bottom. The water that makes its way into the basement through the wall and seems to cause us the most grief may not be the most concerning problem. The same problem will not occur with a solid poured concrete wall. The reason being you will find a defined crack in the solid wall that allows all the water to enter in, without retaining little, or any water.Regardless of which type of foundation you have, it can become watertight, mould and mildew-free by sealing your foundation from the OUTSIDE. With solid poured concrete foundations, you can inject the crack from the inside and the elements stay out.You must expose your foundation wall from grade level to 6" below the top of the footing. Then you must clean the wall thoroughly, exposing the deteriorated areas and cleaning all the dust and dirt from the wall. Then, restore any cracks or loose mortar joints with hydrolic cement. Cement coat the wall,Tar and install 6mm poly plastic on top. Once the wall is treated, install a 4" continuous weeping tile covered with 6 inches of 3/4" stone. Then back-fill the earth compacting at every foot. At grade level slope the earth, concrete, interlocking etc. away from the house. This method never fails. I have used this system over 13 years without fail. I have the references for you to refer to. We also have a photo album to take you step by step through the procedure. So, stop mopping! Relieve your allergies from mold and mildew and restore your foundation. When you do decide to restore your foundation do it the right way - from the outside. Remember, 40% of all my work is fixing other people's attempt to stop the water.

I first used Mud Monkeys about 24 years ago when i had flooding in our basement. I saw their truck servicing a nice house at the end of the street so had them along with two other quotes from other companies come in to assess. Darby immediately made me feel confident in their abilities. He had a down to earth and kind demeanor and made me feel that he would get the job done. He did! I never had another issue in that part of the house again. Some 15 years later we started to have water coming in at the back of the house into the basement apt kitchen. Finally it got so bad we had to call Mud Monkeys in again, This time i did not go out for a 2nd quote. Whatever the cost was going to be, i was going to pay it as i 100% trusted Darby and the quality of thier workmanship. I also really took comfort in their 20 year guarantee. They stand behind their work! I have full confidence that there will be no further flooding in our basement. I recommend Darby to everyone who asks.

We recently completed a major renovation project with Addison Construction in the Beaches, and the experience was nothing short of outstanding. We worked with the team over a period of 8 months and engaged them to renovate a three-story duplex, which included updating two existing units that were in decrepit shape and creating an entirely new unit, transforming the property into a stunning triplex. One of the most challenging aspects of the project was the underpinning, and we leaned on Addison for their expertise and trusted them to undertake this challenge for their In-house underpinning team. This meant that everythingfrom the foundation work to the final detailswas managed by their skilled professionals, giving us peace of mind throughout the entire process. Throughout the renovation, the team was highly responsive and always kept us updated on progress. Any questions or concerns we had were addressed promptly, and we always felt confident in their expertise. The work was completed with impeccable craftsmanship, and the final result exceeded our expectations. The new unit turned out beautifully, and the updates to the existing units have truly transformed the entire building. The triplex is now a modern, functional space that will serve our needs for years to come. We are incredibly grateful to the Addison Construction team for their hard work, professionalism, and dedication to quality.

Assemble or disassemble furniture- 12 May 2025

We were fortunate to find Traian Stanciu to install our new Ikea kitchen. He has expertise, creativity and precision tools that are rare, compared with other installers we checked out. Listen to his advice to get full value from his years of experience. Our 100 year old house had predictable irregularities that needed correction. Traian recommended Sorin Lazar to take care of that. Another gem! There is a lot to be nervous about, choosing someone to do a kitchen reno, there are so many scammers, quick-buck artists and horror stories out there. Traian turned out to be a solid choice. Better than solid, in fact. He stepped up to help with things that were not part of the job, to keep us on schedule. Don't be put off if Traian seems a bit direct or even blunt on first meeting. It's actually a plus, because he doesn't ingratiate himself with salesy overpromises. He listens to what you want and knows how to get you there, on schedule, at a fair price.
