After some minor water penetration on the back wall of my basement, I decided to have it waterproofed. I tried getting some quotes on waterproofing a 14' of basement at the back of my house, but found that many companies don't take more than a cursory glance at the work, or needed the entire deck removed to accomplish the work. Vlad from Umbrella returned my call quickly, and provided a fair quote on the work. His crew worked quickly and had the wall dug out and parged on the first day, allowed the parge to dry and returned a couple of days later to complete the waterproofing layers and cover with dimple product. The work was extremely well done, and I would highly recommend Umbrella to anyone considering having their basement waterproofed. He really cares about his customers.

After improper installation of roof vents five years ago, I had MrRoofRepair in to repair a leak from one of the vents. The job was extremely well done, by a technician who is extremely well versed in how roofs work. MrRoofRepair may be one of the few roofing companies who seems to employ people who know roofing. The entire process, from scheduling to final report, including the extensive photographs of before/after, is exceptional. The report also includes other potential problems, should they exist, and estimates for their repair. In my case, I had two ineffective vents removed, and a ridge vent installed. The job expertly installed by the same technician who did the repair work. The ridge vent installed is a Lomanco OmniRoll, and it has made a huge difference in the attic area. The photo below is from the work report issued, showing both the repaired vent, area of the roof repaired after the vent was removed, and installed ridge vent. An exceptional and highly recommended company.

I had a chimney lining problem with a mid-efficiency furnace that was condensing in the liner on cold days. With mid-efficiency furnaces no longer in the picture, and spending $ on a new liner seeming crazy, I had Boris come and look at the situation. He suggested a Goodman high-efficiency furnace with a new programmable thermostat. The install went great, and the furnace is nice and quiet. On the plus side, Boris said that for the size of my house, and the fact that one wall is shared (semi-detached), I didn't need as large a furnace as my mid-efficiency: 45,000 BTU versus 80,000 BTU. It's nice dealing with someone who actually knows about heating, and older houses, and doesn't try to sell a larger product than is needed. I would highly recommend Boris and his team!

We bought furniture from Kiosk a few years ago. When our furniture was delivered, their installers managed to damage the cover of the ottoman with a box-cutter. This started a 12+ month saga of trying to get them to replace the damaged item. First they said they would get it repaired, so that the damage would be invisible. It was clearly visible. This was about five months in. Then I asked to have it replaced. By month 10, they still hadn't ordered it. When I finally received the new cover, it was over a year later. They didn't seem inclined to return calls, and were not the least bit apologetic. Customer service was mediocre considering the amount we spent on the furniture. At the end they had the gore to ask if we interested in being on their mailing list. Needless to say I declined.

They are tucked away on Dawes Rd, but what a gem! Danforth Lumber always has reasonably priced lumber, including exotics such as IPE, and various other hardwoods. Their lumber is straight, and stays straight, as opposed to the big box stores whose lumber is warped even before it is unloaded. Excellent delivery service, and friendly people. They also have a great bargains section outside the front of the store.

I decided to get the side of my basement wall (approx. 40ft) waterproofed before I replaced the asphalt. I also had some efforesence on the inside of my basement wall, and after 80 years, it's nice to have piece of mind that the foundation is in good condition, better now that it has been waterproofed! RCC were promptly on site to give a quote and well priced. I was ready for it to take 2-3 days for the job to be finished, but to my surprise, they started work at 7.30am and had finished by 4pm. A good solid job, and I have had no more efforesence on the inside wall of parts of my basement. A very professional crew, who made sure the place was left clean and tidy and put together as it had been when they started. Great job!

We had E.W. Smith replace both our pitched roof with 30 yr shingles and our flat roof with a premium flat roof. The work was carried out exceptionally quickly, and both jobs were exceptionally well done. Neighbors who chose to spend less with other roofing companies had leaks in their roofs in under a year. All in all a great job, with total satisfaction.

I had been searching for a solution to replacing the 80-year old cedar shakes on my semi-detached for over a year. My choice of All County Aluminum was influenced in part by the many excellent reviews on homestars.com. The first thing I have to say is that the service was excellent. I had sent an email, and received a reply within the hour. I called Serge up and made an appointment for the next day. When meeting Serge, I could tell straight away that he was someone who took pride in the work his company did. My semi-detached is by no means a large job, but we did want the front to look more traditional using some form of vinyl shake, with the back and side of the house in more traditional siding. Serge provided a number of scenarios in the quotation he provided, looking at the different combinations of products we had were considering. Serge didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want, and provided a detailed final quote. At the end we choose horizontal vinyl siding (Kaycan Prova-9) for the side and back and Kaycan Eagle Rock vinyl shakes for the front dormer. In addition we had some of the soffits replaced, and all the eavestroughs and downspouts (in the same colour- Mocha - as the siding). In addition we added Alu-Rex leaf guards, and 3/4" foil based styrofoam insulation with an R-value of 5 under the siding. The end result is flawless. Every small detail was considered, from the runoff from my roof into the back eavestrough, to how the new siding integrated with the older soffits and existing windows/structures. The downspouts were so strongly attached to the house, I no longer have to worry that the weight of ice in them in the winter will pull them off the wall. His crew cleaned up after every days work, and really took pride in the fine craftsmanship. Overall, I would not hesitate in recommending All County Aluminum to anyone who is considering having similar work done. Serge and his team at All County Aluminum are real professionals. The photographs speak for themselves. Thanks again!!

I wanted to get a back water valve installed in my basement. When I called Drainworks, they came out and did a camera inspection, something I had been meaning to do for a while. It turns out the cast-iron stack was in pretty bad shape, so Armando suggested I replace the lower portion of the stack and all the clay pipe. That was on Wednesday. On Friday the work crew started at 9am. By 5pm the same day they were done, the clay pipe replaced with PVC, a back water valve installed, a new floor drain, clean-out and base of the stack replaced. The work was done efficiently, neatly and cleanly. An excellent company, who I would recommend to anyone. Great service!
