I do not recommend JC Appliance Repair and will not use this company again myself! In my opinion, this is an unscrupulous business, and here's why. For anyone considering JC Appliance Repair, just be aware of what you may be dealing with. My Whirlpool washer leaves excessive lint on clothes at the end of the wash. I contacted a few appliance repair companies based on their high ratings on HomeStars, and picked JC Appliance Repair as JC was the first to respond with an appointment that worked for me. I was informed the service call is $99.99 for the initial visit to diagnose the appliance and I will get a quote on parts if any needed to be replaced. The $99.99 will be paid on first visit and will be part of the total repair cost. A few days before the appointment, my dishwasher, also a Whirlpool, failed to drain the water completely at the end of the wash. I contacted JC and asked if they could add the dishwater to the service call. They could, and it'd cost an additional $50 to diagnose a second appliance. I agreed. When Johnny of JC Appliance Repair showed up, I directed him to the washer first. Showed him a shirt that has some lint on it after washing from the night before. He then offered some tips about washing, sorting clothes in the wash based on fabric type and color, wash cycle, temperature and soil level. He then proceeded to diagnose the problem, first removing the lint filter at the top of the agitator. There was hardly any lint in it, and we just ran it through the tap to wash it off. He then removed the agitator, took a look and washed it, but I didn't really see any lint or debris as he was washing it. He then reinstalled agitator and the lint filter. He suggested we run an empty wash with the Affresh washer cleaner 3 times consecutively to give the washer a good cleaning before doing the next load of laundry. All these probably took us no more than 10 minutes. Next, the dishwasher. Johnny opened the door of the dishwasher to look, and then looked under the kitchen sink. He immediately said that the problem is a clog in the hose that connects the dishwasher to the drain pipe right where the connection is. He proceeded to detach the hose, and activated the dishwasher to flush the leftover water out. Water was flushed out, so the clog wasn't a hard clog. He looked at the hose and said it has some stuffs in it and proceeded to dig it out. Got the stuffs out, it wasn't really much. He reattached the hose and activated the dishwasher to flush out the rest of the water. This time, the water backed up onto the kitchen sink. He concluded that the drain pipe is clogged and I need a plumber to fix that. This took maybe another 10 minutes. I asked what this service call cost me. Johnny said $560 (plus tax), ie $280 for each appliance. I was shocked! From what I can see, the diagnosis basically showed there was nothing wrong with either appliance, and no repair was required. There was no repair done. Johnny did whatever he needed to do to diagnose the problem, and in the end no repair was done, or needed. In fact, even now I still have the same problem with lint on my clothes at the end of the wash, and my dishwasher fails to flush out the water completely (I'm waiting for a plumber to clear the drain pipe). In my mind the cost should be $99.99 for diagnosing washer and $50 for diagnosing the dishwasher plus tax as originally quoted when service call was made. Johnny said the charge was for cleaning, but I would not have agreed to any cleaning that isn't fixing the problem for which this service call was made. A fair and honest person would have charged for the diagnosis and leave it at that if the diagnosis showed that theres nothing wrong with the appliance, and no repair is required, rather than putting in under the tap for a wash and charge $280 for it.

Approximate cost of services:
$560.00

Company Response

We pride ourselves in providing exceptional service to all our customers and our reviews speak highly of our company. This is the first time we ever get any negative feedback about our pricing as we implement a fair system to all our customers and advise them upfront about our fees and how it works.
We accomodated your request for a visit on a Saturday. We did in fact fix your washer and dishwasher and we are sad to see you are still not happy with the service. Washers that bring out clothes with lint after cycle is done require lint filter clean up and customer education on how to use the washer properly with the preset programs. We completed a full check and service to your washer by cleaning your lint trap and disassembling the agitator and cleaned it thoroughy and explained steps to mitigate the issue for future use. The dishwasher did in fact have a clog in the drain hose and we removed it and cleaned out all the gunk that was blocking the water from exiting the drain pump and bottom of the tub and showed you that the dishwasher drained as designed after the clog was cleared. You did have another issue with another clog in the sink drain pipes and advised you to bring a plumber to fix that and you agreed.

Calling us unfair or not honest is crossing the line and we do not accept that as we did deliver as promised. Seems you had a misunderstanding about the diagnosis and thought that a diagnosis fee is the total repair charge which is not. In the future, ask more question to have more clairty and not create confusion for yourself and leave bad reviews unfairly to the professioanl techs in the business.
