We contacted Woodpecker at the end of November and the manager, Bassanio, promptly came over to our condo to provide us with a quote for removing the existing flooring and for installing new engineered hardwood flooring with new baseboards. He was very professional and was quickly able to determine the exact amount of product we needed with very little leftover. His quote was extremely competitive, especially for the quality of the product. We went with Preverco Engineered Natural Hard Maple in 5 3/16”, Pure, Semi-Gloss. “Pure” meant that it had the least amount of grain and colour variation from plank to plank. It was also the only “pure” product out of Preverco, Vintage, Lauzon, and Mirage that came in such wide planks and in up to 7’ long per plank, which really helped elongate our small hallway. Planks larger than 5” wide in such a high grade (i.e. “pure”) were non-existent in the other brands we researched. Bassanio pushed hard to expedite the shipping process and managed to schedule a crew to start work for us immediately despite it being high season, with everyone trying to finish their renovations prior to the holidays. The shining star of the crew was Rafal, who uncomplainingly removed all of the existing flooring even though it was double glued to concrete and required both machinery and intense manual labour. It was quite a bit of work for a 1,100 sq. ft. condo and other contractors had taken one look at the old glued down floors and fled. The whole removal process took 7 backbreaking days and even though it ended up being more work than everyone had anticipated, Bassanio unflinchingly stuck to his original quote. The installation of the new floors and baseboards went very smoothly after that and only took 2.5 days to complete. Our new maple floors look flawless and the mitre cuts on the baseboards are immaculate. Overall, Bassanio was incredibly responsive throughout the entire project. Every time we had concerns or encountered problems, day or night, weekday or weekend, he answered our calls instantly and mitigated the issues diligently and painlessly. For example, when we discovered a defective plank had been accidentally installed, Bassanio immediately ordered a replacement and expedited the shipping from Preverco (in Quebec) and sent the team over to perform the repair within a matter of days. Woodpecker has proved itself to be a trustworthy vendor with a great product and reliable customer service. They are my number one choice for future projects and I would highly recommend them to everyone! Ask for Bassanio at their showroom in Richmond!

I hired Peter and his guys last summer to work on my condo. They removed the stucco ceilings and plastered over it and also painted the entire place. The painting was great, but the plaster work was not perfect, which I did not mind because I understood that it was a very labour-intensive job. Peter's workers were very honest and hard-working. I had a disaster with my tiling contractor, which put me behind schedule. Peter handled this like a champ and despite his company's packed summer schedule, he managed to send over his workers whenever they had just the slightest spare time. In the end, my renovations still finished more or less on time. In summary, I highly recommend Peter and his crew. They work well under pressure and carry themselves in a professional manner.

I hired these guys last summer to widen the granite cut-out in my kitchen counter to accommodate a larger sink. All of the other companies I approached refused this job and tried to sell me a new set of granite counters. However, Aurora Marble and Granite immediately agreed and quoted me an extremely reasonable price. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and went far beyond the call of duty to ensure that this small project would be successful. The end result was even more spectacular than anything I could have ever imagined. They helped me glue in my new undermount sink and polished the granite edges to perfection. They were definitely the highlight of my renovations. If I could give them a score higher than 10/10, I would. Hire them! You will not be disappointed!

I had the 3.25" Vintage Solid Sawn Tigerwood installed in the living/dining room and 2 bedrooms of my condo. There are people who research things to death, and then there's me, who always takes it one step further just to make sure everything is absolutely perfect. I chose Patrick after conducting lengthy interviews with a total of 8 hardwood floor installers, who were already narrowed down from an even longer list of contractors. Patrick stood out from the rest, not only in his tremendously fair pricing, but his artistic eye and problem solving skills. It was clear that he had quality experience. He made excellent suggestions and never made a big decision in the installation process without consulting me first. He was trustworthy, thoughtful, ethical, and never compromised when it came to getting the right materials. For example, I was originally thinking of doing the installation using the glue-down method, which is significantly more expensive than the floating method. Patrick talked me out of it in the hopes of saving me some money. He weighed the pros and cons of each method and in the end, I decided that floating was sufficient for my needs, since I also purchased a very solidly built cork underlay. Patrick brought several different shoe mouldings for me to choose, given the style of my condo, and all I can say is I wouldn’t have been able to pick the perfect one without his help. He also found the perfect t-moulding to bridge the height gap between the master bedroom and tiled bathroom. After everything set, it looked like there was practically no transition at all! He also went to several different warehouses to make sure he got the hardwood flooring at the lowest price possible, and then passed on those savings to me. He even showed me his debit card receipt, and I only paid how much he paid the manufacturer. The amount of square footage of materials I had to purchase was already less than what other installers had quoted. On top of that, I ended up with 3 EXTRA BOXES of hardwood flooring! Vintage refused to take them back, but Patrick didn’t want me to be stuck with them such that he graciously offered to buy them off of me, and refunded me the amount of the 3 boxes! Patrick is an outstanding human being. I can honestly say that he is the most professional contractor I have ever dealt with. His helpers were great too. They were hard-working and always arrived 100% prepared. The job took exactly how long he said it would and he made sure that all of the garbage was cleaned up before he left. His craftsmanship is superb and his prices are even better. If I could give him a score higher than 10/10, I would. Call Patrick now! You will not regret it!
