Back on April 6th 2022 we were having some plumbing work done, and the plumber got spooked thinking there was some asbestos in our dry wall, ceasing all work. This kind of put us in a bit of a pickle. Therefore I was scrambling to find an asbestos company to come take samples (hopefully resulting in negative results), and then if found out to being positive, abatement. I phoned about 4 different companies, and all of them seemed very busy or unreliable. We eventually were going to settle for a company which was clearly trying to gouge us, they wanted something like $1200. It just so happens after leaving a message with Ethical Waste Services, I got a call back from Paul. Paul seemed really nice and straightforward, his pricing was also very simple and straightforward. By coincidence, Paul was heading to a job and once he was done, our house was on his way back home. He stopped by and got to work, he was very friendly, and knowledgeable, as well as conservative with his answers. Instead of blowing hot air my way, he told me he couldn't tell if there was asbestos before testing it, but he did share some "good signs" that could point to negative results. This put me at ease a bit, so I could enjoy the upcoming weekend at least while waiting for the results. Paul warned me the results would take 3 days, and unfortunately that would be weekdays, not weekends. Wonderfully, Paul was able to get the results ASAP, and had sent them and the full report to my email by Sunday (he also contacted me via text message on Saturday to share the news, it turns out we had negative results and showed no signs of asbestos where he took samples). He did this prior to payment, which goes to show the guy isn't just in it for the money, but to make customers happy and put them at ease as soon as possible. After all was said and done including taxes, Paul only charged us $550ish. Before writing this review, it also says he donates to charities and causes through this business venture of his, so thats a bonus. I highly recommend Ethical Waste Services, Paul is a great and genuine guy. I was worried I was going to get a scummy and unethical company, and instead I landed on the complete opposite, an honest and ethical company ran by an experienced guy who clearly knows his asbestos.

I contacted Island Glass and another company in fall of last year. We needed to repair our glass shower as one of the pieces was becoming loose. The original adhesive wasn't applied strong enough. Island glass had the more reasonable quote for the job so we decided to go with them. They showed up but with the wrong coloured L joint. The correct coloured one would have to be ordered and thanks to covid the order took a while to arrive, clocking in at around one and a half months. They did order the piece but forgot who we were and I had to be on top of them to get them out here. To be honest, when all was said and done this was a smallish job and not entirely economical for a busy company to do, so while I had to be on top of them to get the job done, I was grateful to get it done. About 2 months ago, the guys showed up to install the L joint and put a thicker layer of adhesive on the glass. The lead guy who showed up grabbed a bucket and some tools, and went straight to work. It took them a total of maybe 30 minutes to get it done. It's been solid since. I recommend Island Glass to do your glass shower work, as they clearly know what they are doing. Just hopefully you don't fall through the cracks of a busy business like we did.

Last fall John came out to do a free quote for new garage doors and garage motors. He was friendly and straight forward, he gave us the pricing for the job but warned us the lead times for the doors would be up to 16 weeks. He was almost bang on with that estimate of time. In late January he and his employee Igor came out to install the doors and motors. He did a great job and the doors for the most part function well. There was an issue with a bearing making a loud bang when the doors would open. He came out the same day I phoned him to fix the issue. Overall I would say John is a great Garage door installer, and his prices were very fair compared to the other quotes I got. I would highly recommend John and his company if you need garage door or garage motor installations.

We had Sam come out to replace my grandmother's Zone Valves about 3 weeks ago. The repairs he did seem to be working quite well. Sam replaced all 6 zone valves without much issue. Our heating system is set up in a weird way where we don't have a pressure regulator feeding water to it. He also replaced a bath tub diverter. He seemed kind of rushed that day, but was willing to connect me with someone else who could install the regulator. Furthermore, he's a little pricey but like I stated, the work was done quite well, he just didn't do a thorough inspection post job to make sure everything was in order, and I had to text him later that evening asking what to do. To give him credit, he did respond and help me with rectifying the lingering issue over text message. I would recommend Sam doing your plumbing, but make sure you clearly communicate back and forth with him to make sure nothing is ambiguous. I felt our communication at times was not perfectly clear.

I found and hired Comfort Doors to replace one of our old garage motors we have had for over 30 years. I contacted Comfort Doors via the phone number listed on his website, and Sof answered right away. I explained what I was looking for and he obviously knew his craft inside and out. He suggested an affordable motor which offered all the bells and whistles for a great price. Sof showed up promptly on the install date with the motor sealed factory new. He upsold me on some rubber rollers for a bit more, but I’m glad we went with them as the door is much quieter when it opens and closes now. After Sof explained the plan of action (Replace Motor, Spring, and rollers etc), he and his assistant Ramil quickly got to work and spent the next couple of hours doing their thing. After they were done, I was pleasantly surprised to learn Sof reinforced our loose track free of charge. He also oiled everything up with a nice thick layer of oil. The motor works wonderfully and is much more silent than our old set up. I had a concern about the motor, and Sof came over the next day to address it. If and when we plan to have more garage door work I plan to hire Comfort Doors as the experience was great and Sof is the epitome of a small business owner, he’s personal and cares about the quality of work over the bottom line.
