I called Mud Monkeys in the spring to look into the drainage issues around my house as the water table was regularly rising above the basement floor, forming a river from the foundation wall/floor seam, to the floor-drain across numerous channels, a serious issue even for an unfinished basement. Darby showed up promptly to inspect & quote, and while I was dead-set on doing exterior waterproofing when we first met (thinking that was just how it was meant to be done), he pitched the option to do the interior + entire floor for ~$1k more. This actually made a lot more sense, given my basement floor was incredibly uneven (~6" height variance in spots), preventing any potential future finishing. Darby also suggested that my cinderblock columns could be replaced with steel posts with new foundations for a nominal fee, something I had not considered, which really cleaned the space up. Work commenced a couple of months later, everything was dug out by hand. I work from home most days, and considering the type and scope of work being done, the crew was as polite & non-intrusive as you could ask for, and did fantastic work cleaning up when the job was done. The crew was also very helpful dealing with a few of the things you might expect to encounter, but forget to ask about (IE: helping move in/out heavy appliances, and also dealing with/documenting proof/chasing down a city inspector who repeatedly no-showed for inspections). All in, I have zero hesitation in recommending, and utilizing Mud Monkeys again should the need arise. The finished floor looks great, is quite level, and we've had a few heavy rains since the work has completed without the slightest hint of moisture penetating. PS - Floor photo's were taken while the floor was still drying, the color did uniform out! :)

Company Response

Thanks for the great review Myles. This year the water tables are incredibly high and we don't foresee the weather getting better for years to come. I'm glad we were able to find the system which best suited your needs.

Last year when renovating/insulating my house I knocked down a wall to discover the brick-filled fireplace I suspected was hiding behind shoddy contracting all along. I decided to pick up a gas fireplace for heating, and eventually settled on Marsh's after several local friends had suggested them. A fireplace design was picked, price checked out versus the competition, the install was scheduled and all went according to plan. Long story short, I bought the mantle from another vendor, did the install myself a year later, and ran into some snags (the hearth required the fireplace to be lifted by ~2"). I had to call 'em back to help relocate the air splitter box which was hitting the masonry in the wall. Marsh's staff were quick, fair, and the bill was very reasonable, I really couldn't be happier. Everything looks great now.

I called a number of plumbing services today (Sunday Dec 30th, 2012), with my main sewage entirely blocked. I picked Mayday over the others on homestars, for one simple reason: I called a few places, and asked for their time/materials/truck charges, so I could estimate a relative cost. Nobody gave me their hourly rates. Most wanted to send somebody out for a $50-60 cost, provide an estimate, and waive the estimate fee if I picked them. Roy was the only person I phoned today (of a half dozen), who picked up the phone, did not sound intimidated, or worried when I asked flat out for a price, and gave me a firm number. That was what sold me, there was no guess work involved, and I associate this with a contractors experience level (frankly, his price was par/lower then most, certainly a consideration). Mayday arrived at the scheduled time (same day), got to work promptly and successfully, then took the time to show me what some of my future repair plans would entail, helping educate me with regards to what I could handle myself, and what I might not. Overall, I'm just thrilled that with the gamble of picking a plumber, I lucked out today. Notably, I gave this a 9/10 review, not because I'm 1/10th dissatisfied, but because I want this review actually read, not white-washed out with the rest of the 10/10 reviews that plaster the site in general.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Not much really, everything was to/above any reasonable expectation.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
When your main drain is entirely stopped, you're either going to home depot and try to snake it yourself, or hire somebody like Mayday. There's not much else to say.
