I had my entire sewer line and had installed a backflow preventer by another contractor. However, a couple of years later after installation, I used Markham Backflow services based on a referral and I was glad I did. They were very professional and considerate of the area in the basement. They inspected floor drain, sewer line, backflow preventer and gave it a clean bill of health. They are very knowledgeable about the preventer and drains. I would not hesitate to contact Len and his team to service my backflow preventer. Highly recommend.

After interviewing many mold remediation companies, I decided to hire Robert and his team based on the excellent reviews and his price for mold remediation and asbestos tile removal. I had a foundation crack and water was leaking in behind the drywall. There was not much mold visible on the drywall and barely any mold smell, but I was more worried about what was behind the drywall. Asbestos tiles were in the walkout from my basement and I wanted to have that removed as well because I have 2 young children. On the day of the job, Dave called me out of consideration to advise me that he would be running late due to traffic, which I appreciated, and I noticed that some of his crew were waiting outside my house way before the start time. When he got there, he introduced his crew and the work that they were hired to do. They sealed the work areas, removed, cleaned, and disinfected the affected areas. The work took over half a day and in the end, I was very satisfied with the work they did. I also want to commend them on their post-job customer service. I contacted Robert the president to advise him that there was some sort of white fuzzy substance growing on my concrete basement floor which was not there previously. Dave came by again and advised that it was not mold but efflorescence which is a salt by-product which is not toxic substance. He cleaned it up and hepa-vacuumed the affected area. I really appreciate Templar's professionalism and would not hesitate to recommend them or to use their services again (hopefully not).

The eco-energy retrofit was coming to an end and I decided it was time to replace our 18+ year old furnace and take advantage of the gov't grants/rebates. It was working ok but, I did not want to take a chance on it breaking down. I did my research on HVAC contractors as well as researching the products. When it came down to it, I chose Spring Home. Cy came over to the house, evaluated our needs and presented me with a hi-eff American Standard furnace, thermostat and a condensate pump. He only quoted what was required and I appreciated the no upsells on accessories. There was no pressure sales, the only pressure was for me to decide which HVAC contractor to pick. After meeting with him, I was about 90% sure that I was going to go with Spring Home. The price Cy quoted to me was very competitive and the reviews on homestars helped in my decision. The installers came on time, were polite and informed me of the things they were going to do with the install. In the end it took most of the day to install the furnace, touch screen thermostat and condensate pump. They did a thorough screening to make sure everything was working before they left and did not leave any mess. I am very satisfied with the work that was done and have even recommended my work colleague to them. Thanks again Cy and Spring Home.

Our Kenmore fridge had stopped working a couple of days before Christmas and were in dire need of having it repaire. I called a few appliance repair companies and since it was so close to Christmas, some of them could only come the following week. Only 2 appliance repair guys said they possibly come have a look on Christmas eve and Aubrey was the guy that actually came to repair our fridge and we're glad he did. After discussing with him the problem, he already knew what the issue was. The starter relay was not working so he replaced it and it the fridge started to cool down. I was ready to buy a new fridge but Aubrey saved our fridge and our food too. Not to mention that he's a nice guy as well. Thanks again Aubrey

I needed my 2 acrylic domed skylights replaced and after reviewing several skylight installers on homestars and getting quotes, I decided to go with Skylights Unlimited and I was glad I did. Their quote was comparable to others and they actually matched a lower quote. Denis the owner came by assessed and described the work to be done which was nothing out of the ordinary. Their installers (Gerik and Goran) came on time and were providing me information throughout the whole installation. The only issue was the shingles that they brought did not match the existing shingles on the roof. Since it was the holiday weekend, many roofing suppliers were closed and Denis and Santo assured me that they will find a vendor who sells these shingles. After a couple of follow up calls with Skylights Unlimited, they found the shingles and their installers finished up the job and right on time as well..a day before the a huge rainstorm! They put enough ice and water shield so that no their would be no leaks and sure enough there wasn't. My wife and I are happy with the new skylights and they make a huge difference in terms of looks, noise and energy efficiency. I definitely woule recommend them to anyone who wants to use their services.

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Make sure you get an energy audit before you do anytype of work that inolves using energy efficient producst in order to take advantage of the grants. Also, make sure the installers have the same type of shingles to match your existing ones.

Hi Gerry,
We're glad you're happy. I must admit it was difficult finding your match for shingles. I recall even your roofer had the wrong colour on his quote. Thanks for your patience during our hunt for shingles. There is a huge difference going from Dome (acrylic/plastic) to Velux LoE3 Energy Star Rated glass skylights. You not only see the difference but also feel the difference. Enjoy your skylights.
Regards,
Santo

I was recommended by Van Horne Plumbing by colleague of mine whose family owned a plumbing company. My wife had noticed that water was dripping from the ceiling in our kitchen and first thing we thought was a pipe burst. My friend called his brother Nick and he immediately came to our house. Unfortunately he had to cut open our ceiling to find out the source of the water leak. It didn't end up being a burst pipe but instead water was seeping underneathe the shingles. It wasn't a plumbing job but regardless, Nick was quick and helpful. I'd definitely recommend Van Horne. Thanks Nick.

I was looking for a lamps for the longest time. I've been to several home stores to look for the style I wanted. They either didn;t have it or the style I liked. So I saw the lamp and shade and it was the perfect one for our room. I liked it so much that we bought 2 others for our rooms. I know I'll be back at Lowe's.

I was looking for item to drain away the water from my house. The salesperson was very helpful in providing several items. There were too many too choose from but he suggested the one that folds up/down. I purchase this item and it was very easy to install. Now I don't have any problems with water pooling around my foundation. Thanks Home Depot Richmond Hill!

I found out about Top Line Duct cleaning as they were doing some work on one of the houses in my neighborhood and decided to give them a call. I also did some research and found them on Homestars and they got good reviews as well that helped. After getting a quote from Shawn, they were decently priced compared to others. They showed up on time, they were polite and got the job done. Included in the price was the I vacuuming of the AC and furnace. After the cleaning, we tested the furnace and the heating and I found a big improvement. I was satisfied with the work that was done.

After getting several estimates from many tree service companies, I finally decided to go with McDonald Tree services based on their reviews on Homestars and was glad I did. My cedar hedges were quite long, tall and deep and were not maintained by the previous owner, so they were overgrown in many places and needed to be trimmed badly. Steve gave a reasonable quote and got the job done in 2 days...on his own! (Though he had a couple of guys on the first day for clean up) He was quite knowledgable and gave me some cost cutting ideas on how to care for the hedges. He not only cleaned up the trimmings that were left over, he also cleaned my driveway from the debris that fell from my silver maples. The only small issue was trying to get a hold of Steve to confirm times (because they're so busy), but it was no big deal as he was able to call me back. My wife and I are satisfied with his work and would use his services again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend McDonald Tree Services.

I hired Francis Movers based on the reviews from Homestars and their rates were very reasonable. They are worth every penny and the review on Homestars are accurate. I initially requested 2 movers for $70/hour, they had brought a 3rd person as an option. It was optional if we were to go with 2 and they were ok with that. 3 movers would have cost $90/hour. I decided to go with 3 as it would have saved me at least 1.5 hours. It took about 5.5 hours (including 1 hour travel time) to load unload our stuff. The guys (Rod, Grant and Dave) were fast and friendly. I highly recommend Francis Movers and would use them again.
