6/10

I had a four-season sunroom addition built by Complete Home Construction Inc. located in Cambridge, Ontario in 2023. One exterior wall was removed from the dinette to open into the sunroom. I have been enjoying this room a lot so thank you! Unfortunately, there were significant issues along the way. Many months after the contract was signed, the owner decided to increase the cost by 33% of its original price. Giancarlo gave me the option to break the contract and return part of my deposit. I decided to continue since I had already put deposits down with companies separate from CHC but part of the addition. (metal roof and installation of a patio). While the sunroom was being framed, I realized that the width of the patio door and adjacent glass panes were 7.5 feet wide instead of 9 feet wide. The architectural plan that I approved with CHC and was submitted to the city and approved by the city, was for 9 feet wide. Somehow, this was changed to 7.5 feet without my knowledge and without the citys approval. A compromise was made so construction could continue. Many problems occurred because there was no general contractor that regularly visited the site. Such as, trades would correctly finish their part of the job but the overall completion of that job was not accounted for. An example of this occurred with the installation of the ceramic tile in the sunroom. The flooring company installing the tile did an excellent job. However, the original hardwood flooring from one room needed a transition piece to join to the tile in the addition. This was a specialty that the tile installer did not do. A general contractor on site would have intervened quickly to get the appropriate trade in to complete that task. After a lengthy discussion with Giancarlo on several occasions, I found the appropriate tradesperson to complete the transition piece. Several times throughout the construction of the sunroom, I was intervening as a general contractor on my own project that I had hired CHC to do for me. Having a general contractor regularly onsite would have avoided many delays and many headaches for me and CHC. However, I greatly appreciated that Mal kept me informed as to the next step in the construction process and found appropriate solutions to other issues that occurred along the way. With all that being said, thank you for the beautiful sunroom that allows so much natural light and the outdoors in all year round. This is now my favourite room.
