Having had Gutter Doctor repair, clean and tighten a fraction of the eavestroughs and cleared the downspouts a few years ago, we contacted the company again this year to complete the repairs and tightening on the rest of the structure, as well as do the cleaning. The response was quick, and within a couple of days Jeff showed up, carried out the work, efficiently and thoroughly, as he had done previously. A couple of rainy and snow days in the past two weeks demonstrated the soundness of the work.

The Gutter Doctor was contacted in September and of the three eavestrough cleaning companies we contacted was the last to provide a quote, taking about a month. It was, however, worth the wait. Technician Jeff called first (as requested), came over and walked around the perimeter with me noting all the problem areas I showed him and then went on the roof and examined the entire system. He then provided a detailed, itemized proposal for work. He was willing to start immediately, but we wanted to think about all the recommendations and associated costs. The following day (a Saturday) we contacted the company (Laura) that we would like a portion of the recommendations done, believing that the bunged up downspouts were responsible for most of the leak as well as overflow problems. Jeff came over Sunday afternoon and did the work we had requested, cleaning and clearing all the gutters, strengthening straps and fastenings, and he did so conscientiously and efficiently. Inside of two hours. We did a hose test on the major systems to check that the plugs were eliminated. As a consequence, I would not hesitate to recommend this young man and the company he represents. After a heavy snowfall followed by a rapid melt, we found that one of Jeff's recommendations that we did not follow earlier needed fixing,as a bad leak on a downspout from a joint was feeding a large crack in the concrete pad below it. The company immediately notified Jeff who came out immediately and fixed it. As a consequence, I have changed my rating from 9 to 10 stars for this company.

After having previous quotes from a company that we called in a hot-water-tank tubing-failure emergency, we checked around and found that the original estimates were very high. We went to visit Pete the Plumber at his showroom after seeing the HomeStars' and other reviews, and were impressed with products and with Pete's estimates (half of the previous estimate), and booked. The work was mainly done quite well by Wayne (faucet) and by Matt and his assistant (one hot water tank). For Wayne's work, we would award 5 stars. However, there was a geometry problem in installing the second of our two tanks and a smaller footprint tank had to be installed instead; we were told that Monday between 12 and 2 p.m. the new tank would be installed. That did not happen. When we called about it, we were then told it would happen on Thursday, and it did. Darren showed up to install the second tank, but, instead of the copper tubing we had had, he installed Pex, a polyethylene product, for most of the tubing to the 2nd tank. This was unexpected and we were not happy with it, despite its alleged certification; this product is cheaper and has ~half the estimated lifetime of copper, and (to us at least) presents unknown long-term health concerns. We now have to evaluate whether we need to have this Pex tubing replaced with copper, at additional cost, of course. For the most part, we were happy with the service and, except for the Pex issue, would have given Pete and company a rating of 4.5 for the relatively timely and professional work. For faucet installations, we have no hesitancy in recommending Pete the Plumber, especially if they send out Wayne! (Note added Mar. 23: I am pleased to add that Pete did make things right, and the job now appears to be completely satisfactory.) I have changed my rating accordingly.
