After contacting Steve via Homestars to request a quote he was very prompt and showed up to the house. Steve is very knowledgeable and we went over different options including the feasibility of adding a garage door opener given the low height clearance of my garage. I liked the fact that they were going to replace everything and haul it away – the garage door, railings, rollers etc. On the actual installation day everything went well and Steve even adjusted the door to make sure there was a tight seal at the bottom, installed the new perimeter flaps correctly and recommended some additional areas to caulk. The door looks great and is very quiet with the new railings and rollers – just as Steve indicated they would be. The only reason I am not giving a 10 rating is that I was told it would be 6 to 8 weeks for the door to be manufactured and delivered to Steve, when in fact it was 16 weeks and Steve showed up the first time to install the door only to find out he did not have the right sized panels and we had to reschedule for the next week.

Hi there. Thank you for the kind review and you patience. We're glad you're happy with the new door. We've very sorry about the delay, but it was unavoidable on our end and entirely a supplier issue due to COVID-19. All of orders have been delayed.

Thanks
Steve

We hired GNI to top-up our main floor attic to an R60 with cellulose blow-in insulation. Right from the beginning it was a very professional and friendly experience. The sales rep, Michael, answered all my questions and went beyond my expectations by even agreeing to wrap my fan duct line with an insulation sleeve that I had purchased. They also installed some baffles to ensure proper ventilation and air circulation, rigid foam boards on the attic hatch and a hatch box wall. It only took about 4 hours for the guys to complete the work and they cleaned up nicely. Top notch company and highly recommend them!!

Very happy with Darryl and his team. They did a great job removing some limbs that were getting too close to our roof. Very knowledgeable and he went over how he would ensure that the limbs would be carefully lowered to the ground. They did a great job cleaning up too!

Very happy with Mathew and his team. Although they came a day later than scheduled, they completed the job in one afternoon and I am very happy with the results. They even went over how to install future racks on the walls and did a great job cleaning up. Even gave me the option of keeping an extra piece of wood (which I kindly did).

Right from the beginning, the service from Len was amazing. I got a call within 30 minutes of submitting my request even during the evening when we had freezing cold (-37 Celsius) weather!! Len was great in answering all my questions about how the humidifier (Aprilaire 500M) and the smart thermostat (Ecobee4) would work together. He also explained how to improve my humidity levels (warm water supply, etc). Communication with Len was excellent and timely. When Adam showed up to do the install it was very evident that he knew his stuff but was also willing to learn more - as we both did some troubleshooting getting the Ecobee4 electrically hooked up. Adam was also very clean using booties and a pad when he had to gain access by cutting one ceiling tile (with my permission). He got my Ecobee4 setup, tested it to make sure it was sending signals to the furnace and made sure that the hot water supply connection did not leak. Thank you Len & Adam. You guys really care about your clients and it shows! Highly recommend them.

Hometurf provides great value for your money. What really closed the deal for me was the annual aeration and seeding that they include with their Deluxe package that the competition does not. Only area for improvement is their weed control. Compared to a competitor we had before, we seem to have to get multiple weed control applications to keep our lawn free of weeds.

I had to replace the roof after noticing a leak that entered our kitchen ceiling. I found out that our shingles were the inferior and cheap “organic” type put on by the previous owner only 13 years ago. After getting a few quotes and told by another couple of companies that they were booked solid for the next 4 months I decided to go with Turnbull. They were a bit more expensive but I felt very confident in their work after talking to Chris about what was required. I went with the Owen’s Corning TruDefinition Duration shingles. After signing the quote, Chris mentioned that it would likely be 2 months until my roof could be completed but they would try to move our job up given our leak. He told us to let him know if we had anymore leaks and he would see what he could do. To my great surprise only 2 weeks after signing the quote Chris told us that our roof would be done! The crew chief went over the work with me and even suggested extending the flashing below the upper roof so that it aligned with the lower roof and would provide more curb appeal. I thought that was very professional. He even agreed to take pictures of the new ice and water membrane for me. The crew finished the job in one day and did a good job of cleaning up – using the magnetic lawn mower collector to find the nails. What really impressed me was that after I inspected the roof the next day and found a few things that needed to be fixed (for example, too much shingle overhang blocking the eavestrough), I called them and Chris came out to the house the next week and made a note of all the things I found and asked for my pictures. He assured me that the work would be completed and was great at communicating when this was going to happen. They did come back within 2 weeks of the original work and fixed everything. They even went the extra mile and provided me with some extra caulking tubes so that I could do some DIY maintenance on the roof. I realize that sometimes mistakes happen but Turnbull really stepped up and took ownership of their mistakes and quickly fixed them. Chris was really good listening to my questions and explaining things to me. I feel very confident that Turnbull will stand behind their work and fix any issues during the warranty period. Their focus on customer service is the reason why I would choose them again.

We had been wanting to fix some plumbing issues and prevent possible issues in the future when we decided to call Express Rooter. We were able to get a Saturday work window and Vladimir came out and was very receptive and listened to our concerns. We wanted to replace the wheel-shaped shut-off valves for the washer as they looked faulty and were an accident waiting to happen. We tried to close them once but they would not turn. We also wanted to replace an old laundry tub faucet and install a new toilet in the washroom. He mentioned that the shut-off valves for the laundry tub were not a requirement but we still wanted to get them just in case we had to replace the faucet again. Vladimir did a great job and gave us some tips on how to maintain the faucet. He also shimmed the base of the toilet to make sure it was level as the basement floor had a slope to it. Overall we are very pleased with the work and feel more secure knowing that we will not have any plumbing issues in the basement.

We needed our garage ceiling and adjoining interior wall to the house spray foamed to both seal and insulate against the cold and off gases since our master bedroom was above the garage. Jeremey S. came out and did a thorough inspection and explained the process to us. He also made it clear that we were NOT to sleep in the bedroom for at least 24 hours for health reasons. They were very flexible with timing as we had to hire another company to remove the builder insulation and drywall before they could start their work. After they completed the work, we noticed that our bedroom floors were actually warm (this was in October) and we did not have to sleep with toques on our head (not kidding!). Now we can sleep knowing that no off gases from our car will get into the house.

We had a home inspection as a condition of our offer on a 40+ year house. Andrew Dixon came out and was very good with explaining things that he was seeing and did not mind me shadowing him during the inspection. He took the time to explain several of the major and immediate repairs that needed to be done. Many pictures were taken and included in both the binder report (hard copy) and also in the pdf file (soft copy). I would have given a 9.5 rating but had to settle for a 9. This was due to the fact that there was no mention about the windows (how old they were, shape they were in, when they should be replaced, energy efficiency, etc.) and also some faulty kitchen plumbing (dishwasher connection). These two items ended up costing us $12,000. It would have been nice to have known these things so we could negotiate with the seller before we closed the sale. However, I still highly recommend Mike Holmes Inspections, especially the Recall Chek (for major appliances - we found out the dishwasher had an electrical recall issue) and the iVerify Home History Reports (on permits pulled, insurance claims history, grow-up history, sales history, etc)

I replaced 9 windows, 3 basement windows and 3 storm doors. Clera's quote was a few thousand dollars less than the other quote. I was impressed by their ratings and their lifetime guarantee. I was told it would take about 8 weeks till installation after signing the contract in early August. Well, they did not show up until the end of October, about 3 weeks longer than scheduled. The installation was completed in one day, so I was happy with that part. However, during the winter I found that the screens were very tight and impossible to remove on 4 of the windows. It took over 4 MONTHS for them to finally be delivered! Screens delivered June 30th. Score improved from 2 to 8.

Dear Bee Gee, Thank you very much for your review. We apologize for the inconvenience. We will definitely take necessary steps to ensure that no one has to wait this long for their parts. In the meantime, our installer has already picked up your screens and we are remaking them. We will get them ready today and arrange the installer to go back and install ASAP. We appreciate your true feedback that you were happy with the installation but we need to train our staff to accommodate customer's request faster. Thanks - Clera Admin.
Update on July 1st - Dear Bee Gee, Please confirm that your screens were made and delivered to your house on June 30th. We really appreciate if you could please update your review and let everyone know that once your complaint reach to the Clera management, your issues were resolved with in couple of days. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience and we wish you best of luck!!!

After getting fed up with the terrible service at another company that I used, I contacted North Shore. They had provided a quote on earlier projects that I had done for me. Well, was I ever pleased with their work and prompt customer service! I received a quote within 3 days of submitting my request. Laura was very receptive and friendly. When I called a couple of days after signing the quote to find out when the work could be done, she totally surprised me by saying that the crew could fit me in 2 days time! When Darren showed up he wanted to understand what needed to be done and clarified the scope of work. He also explained how long it would take. He also showed me pictures of some flashing that needed to be done and explained the cost to me in a no pressure and calm way. I even got those pictures emailed to me within a week of paying for the work. I will be using North Shore in the future. Thank you Darren & Laura. Keep up the great work and customer experience.

I hired them to do my entire lower roof - new eaves troughs, smart screen, downspouts - including redirecting a downspout that was going into my underground weeper. They did a good job both times. Each time it took about 4 weeks to complete the job after I signed the estimate (which took about 2 weeks for each project). I wanted them to do my small roof above my bedroom - the last part of my house not completed. Well, this is where their customer service fell apart. I emailed pictures and measurements of the eaves and asked for a quote. I followed up 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks after my initial email. Josh told me 2 weeks after I submitted the request that I would be getting the estimate very shortly. I waited another week and still did not receive it. A simple estimate! I was so frustrated that I contacted another company that previously provided an estimate for one of the 2 jobs Better Contracting did. I got an estimate within 3 days of my request and they came and completed the work 4 days after I signed my estimate!!! If it was not for this last experience, I would have given Better Contracting a 10! They need to get their act together as they are losing business from reasonable customers like me.

Frank was very good listening to my needs and reviewing the electrical section of my home inspection report. He explained how the ESA permits were issued and how the inspection process happens. He made some suggestions but also told me what needed to be done now and what could wait later if I was going to totally renovate my kitchen and basement. No pressure tactics and they (Frank/Tony) always followed up within 24 hours. Tony was very honest and was very quick to correct a billing issue (they originally charged me for 10 GFCI's but there were only 5 installed). He sent an updated invoice before we even ended our phone call! The electricians (Joe & Joel) asked for my input and gave me an update after they finished their work. I also got a report detailing all the issues and solutions with my electrical panel. I now know what appliances & lights are hooked up to what switch. Very thorough.

I was extremely happy with 3/4 of the work. They had to come back one week after and finish the garage and front door. They did repaint the garage and it is better but the front door is still too sticky and it grabs our weather stripping. The painter explained what he was doing at the beginning and showed me the work after each day. They were very good communicating things but I can not say that I am 100% satisfied given the wrong paint was used for the doors (an upgrade) and also it took them twice as long to start the job. They did complete the job in less time than I was originally told.
