Vito and his team did an excellent job adding a new window to our basement. The project required cutting a new hole in the wall, and that was accomplished with minimal debris and no extra damage. Clean up, framing, and finish were done well. We did have a few organizational snags, with delays in communication, rescheduling, and an unfortunate price increase after the initial quote. However, there's a lot of market uncertainty in all areas, and even with the price increase Vito's quote was much lower than competitors. If you want high quality work with great attention to detail, and you don't mind putting in some extra work on the communication side, I would very highly recommend VND Windows & Doors.

We needed to replace the failing tube lighting in our basement with LED panels that are more efficient, dimmable, and better for the eyes. Afshin came by first to review the situation in person, and then provide a quote. He is incredibly friendly, humble, and great to work with. Once we accepted the quote, we were able to schedule the installation for within a few days. On the installation date, Afshin arrived within an hour of the scheduled start time, and went right to work. We was very respectful of our space, used drop cloths, and brought a vacuum to clean up each area as he worked. At the end of the day, Afshin informed me that he didn't bring enough light panels, and had estimated based on the wrong dimmer switches. While admittedly this was frustrating, we did decide to schedule a second date to do the remaining panels and switches. The follow up date was pushed back, so we wound up waiting a full week with the job partly done (including one bedroom half done). On the second day, Afshin again was attentive and tidy, and did some excellent work running the low voltage dimmer lines without any wall damage. Not easy to do! Overall, we're very happy with the result and we would happily work with Afshin again on future projects. We strongly recommend talking to Afshin about your next electrical project.

You know those jobs you dread dealing with? Those eyesores that nag at you year after year, but just seem too frustrating? The kind of thing that you say, "Ya, I know I should deal with that, but ... [your excuse here]"? That was our shed roof. Year after year, season after season, we'd be finding chunks of shingle blown across the back yard. What was once an annoyance eventually became a nuisance, and evolved in a full-on urgent situation when we started getting more and more water damage inside the shed. So I solicited a few quotes. And as I expected, some were crazy high, some contractors were incredibly vague, some took days and days to respond. And then there was Jay ... Jay from Master Roof Repair responded quickly, asked good questions, gave a detailed process in his proposal, and offered a price that was more than fair. Jay was very flexible to work around our family schedule, and when the day came the team was in and out in under 3 hours. The work was high quality, the conduct professional, the attitude friendly, and the shed roof looks fantastic! My only complaint now is that with the roof looking so good, I'm going to have to repaint the rest of the shed to look as good as the roof. Thanks, Jay! We love your work, and highly recommend Master Roof Repair.

We hired Home Bud to finish our basement in late 2005, and it was a complete disaster. The sales rep was very professional, from a clean logoed vehicle, to branded paperwork, and a good pitch. However, the worker who arrived was best described as a slob. He was significantly overweight, had bad knees, and had to navigate the stairs to our basement many times a day. Late morning he would head out to his truck for lunch. And to read a book. For three hours. Every. Day. From about 11 am to 2 pm he would read while we were in the house wondering why work wasn't being done. When it came time to frame the walls he made an arbitrary decision to move a kitchen wall six inches, even though we had already purchased the cabinets. We only learned about the move when we were checking his work at the end of the day. Drywall with these guys is an adventure in disappointment. They insisted on using nails, not screws, to attach the drywall. Not surprisingly, the nails popped out soon after. Their plastering work is most charitably described as "artistic" because of the variety of texture and the use of lines and waves ... but that's exactly the opposite of what you want. The worker (calling him a contractor would be an insult to all skilled contractors) wielded a drywall knife like a hamfisted 3-year-old. Holes cut for outlets were oversized by 2+ inches on either side of the plugs. Probably the worst part was that the guys Home Bud sent into our home refused to speak with my wife or to even acknowledge that she was talking. When I was out of the house during the day they would just ignore her until she brought my brother downstairs - at which point they would gladly speak to him. They hung doors in the new rooms that were cut to odd sizes, with doorknobs at varying heights. This honestly felt like a first time DIY job. When I documented shortcomings (gaps in drywall, puckered plaster, gaping holes around outlets) the project manager determined that they "could clearly not satisfy [me]" so they stopped coming. It didn't stop them from cashing the cheques, though.

I have been shopping at Speelman's for years, and we always get great service. Whether researching a project, getting delivery of soil, stone, gravel, etc., or buying or Christmas tree (an annual tradition for our family at Speelman's) we are always greeted warmly and receive excellent help. They have been very helpful with planning, and the delivery guys are fantastic and friendly.

Cadaxx took over from a previous designer who was unable to complete the work. They came in, took accurate and thorough measurements, asked good questions, and produced excellent drawings. The permit was approved right away with no pushback from the inspector, in large part due to the thoroughness of the drawings.
