10/10

After renovating a bathroom I found that I had a "moisture" issue in my attic. After speaking with 5 different specialist in the field, all of them were capable and willing to eliminate the mold in the attic, but not one of them could tell me why/how it got there in the first place. It took me over 6 months before I got some straight answers. After speaking to Gordon Bailey of Academia Roofing & Attics I had a thorough understanding of what was wrong and what needed to be fixed and how. He is a hard man to reach because he is very busy, but it was worth the wait. Everything he pointed out made common sense and so I understood what needed to be done. Gordon is a blunt man, knows his stuff and does a lot of research if it happens to be something he does not know. Gordon's strength is that he is a perfectionist. He will never cut corners and you will get the best job done as a result. He treats your home as though it was his. He is not cheap, but it is well worth doing right the first time which will make it the last time. Although Gordon was hired to improve the circulation of the air in my attic there were so many other things that he found during his many months stay at my home. He spotted things that were really not his responsibility nor what he was retained to do. But he always has the homeowners best interest at heart and is always willing to repair other problems. Just as an example, when Gordon was in my attic he pointed out that some of my ceiling joists were cracking because of poor installation and improper materials used by my original contractor. He was more than happy to fix this for me. He saw that I had a dryer venting incorrectly and could potentially have caused a serious fire down the road, Did I hire him to do this? No, but he had no issue fixing what needed to be fixed. So he is a specialist in attics and roofs, but also understands and can spot other construction problems, or catch them before they become a real problem. The last thing I would say about Gordon is that he is always there to lend a helping hand. I had a basement flood during Gordon's stay. This was totally unrelated to the work Gordon was doing. I called him up late at night and asked for help. Within one hour Gordon was at my place sorting out the problem and finding the solution. By the morning he already had a crew of people show up to deal with this. He even ran to Home Depot for me that night to pick up 5 industrial blowers to get the moisture out of my basement. Very few people I know would ever step up to the plate for something like this.

Company Response

What can I say as there are now words to describe such a heartfelt review as yours. I really appreciated your input, patience and understanding. Very few Homeowners understand what it takes to complete a project with a multitude of issues that need permanent fixes and the sequence in which they need to be done. Your belief in my experience made the job flow as good as could be expected especially when so many challenges had to be overcome safely. Thankfully HomeStars has brought us clients like you that do their research and recognize that there are a host of contractors to choose from. I feel blessed having been chosen by you from all the others you entertained, especially that you retained me on my first visit and we're willing to wait in line. See you in the Spring for the last phase and again thank you for your trust and confidence in me.
