I obtained three quotations before I retained John Whytes' "True North Eavestroughing". John and his three man crew replaced about 300 feet of eavestrough, the fascia and soffits all around the house in three days. John was not the lowest cost nor the highest. From the start, John and crew were prompt, professional and courteous while going beyond what was in the original contract at no additional cost. They relocated some of the downspouts because the originals were improperly done 26 years ago by the original builder. They also added hinges to two downspouts to make it easier to cut the grass and allow diversion from the rain barrel. They also relocated the irrigation rain sensor away from the chimney along the eavestrough, at my request. I will recommend True North to anyone asking including my family and friends. Thanks John for a great job. Tom Rusnov, Richmond Hill, ON

This house is about 23 years old and the chimney top had already been rebuilt about a dozen years ago by another company which poured a new concrete cap and installed new flues. This repair failed and I got quotes from two other companies. I went with Quality Restorations after speaking with Doug Pearce, the owner. He impressed me with his experience and knowledge, and his quoute was detailed and competitive. He sent Carl and a helper to do the work and it was completed to my satisfaction in about one and a half days, longer than they had expected because of the need to cut up the massive poured concrete cap mentioned above. Although it was not possible to get a perfect match of brick, they did get a reasonable facsimile. Once done, they did a great job cleaning up the yard. One small quibble, after the recent heavy rains, I found a bunch of brick chunks and residue coming down from the eavestrough into rain barrel my wife uses to water her sensitive plants and flowers. Other than that, I am well satisfied. Tom

Company Response

Thanks for good review Tom - I'll pass it along to the men... as well as the note about the small
bits of masonry in the downspout. Even though all the bits washed out with the first rain, a more thorough clean up is a standard part of our work.

I obtained five estimates for replacing my 23 year old furnace(120,000BTU) and air conditioner (4Ton) and for a new heat recovery ventilator. After interviewing all five, my choices narrowed to two finalists. Northwood won the job, not on price, but on homestars reviews and that Mike Holmes uses them on his projects. Northwood was a bit more expensive than the runner-up, but I had better confidence that I would get an excellent job done. Oh, I almost forgot part of the job was also to do a thorough duct cleaning, the guys spent 6 hours on the ducts, compared to less than 2 hours by Sears several years ago. Two men came to do the ducts the day before the HVAC crew(sometime 2 men and sometimes 4)arrived. The HVAC job took two full days, and the care they took was exceptional. At my request, they also relocated my hot water heater to a more efficient location (space-wise)at extra cost because it was not part of the original quote. A very neat job. Would I recommend Northwood to others? Absolutely, without reservation! My wife and I are delighted. Tom R. in Richmond Hill
