We had some flickering lights in the house and were advised by the Hydro company that we needed an electrician and fast. In the face of panic in the pending holiday season, we called a few electricians but no one seemed interested to help out. Having used Merlo years ago, we tried them again and they showed up within hours, made the repairs quickly and dealt with the hydro connect. As we were at work when most of this was happening, they were even good enough to leave us a quick note at our door advising that everything was good to go and power was back. The quick service and overall consideration for the situation was much appreciated. (Invoice not received yet, cost unknown)

We called D'Angelo for a quote as our shingles were curling and we knew we wouldnt make it through a winter/spring. Ian came out to quote on the shingles and new skylights (nice guy, not the best with appointments). The price was exactly what we figured so we went ahead to schedule the job for the following two weeks. Due to heat, the roof job was delayed a few days but then the crew was onsite one morning and it was done - old ripped off, new skylight, shingles, cleaned up - in 5 hours. At first, I was skeptical as to the quick job as it felt rushed but I guess time, and rain, will tell if any corners were cut. When they left, we noticed that the interior of the ceiling where the skylight was replaced was left in bad shape and also, that the old flashing was pulled up and left on the roof line which looked horrible. We had to call the office to find out that the interior area around the skylight wasnt in their scope of work, and also, that someone would be out in a few days to finish the flashing work. I wish we were told about both items ahead of time, instead of having to track them down for answers. We then were contacted by about 4 different people about paying the balance. We dont have cheques so were trying to get a money order in place (which we had about a week later) but we definitely felt pressure to pay up, which I didnt particularly like. Overall, good job...for now.

We had a backup of smelly water from the drain pipe in the basement. Its an older home but we've only been here for about 5 years and never experienced it before. It had just rained, we had just finished a bathroom reno, and there was construction happening on our street so we really didnt know what the cause was. It wasnt a lot of water so it wasnt urgent but we called 5-Stinky and they were there the next day, at the time we requested. The plumber, Jeff, was incredibly helpful, friendly and explained a lot to us. Being one of the last appointments of the day, he still took the time to explain things and let us watch the camera scope too. The drain is now clear (darn tree roots!) and the service cost didnt break the bank. We highly recommend.

We went to Vartanians because my family has used them for years. We needed a very large carpet remnant to act as an area rug in a large space that is occupied by a very busy dog, but we also wanted it to look nice! We knew not to get anything pricey or have a carpet installed (due to typical dog damage) so this was our best option. We went to see Mike who gave us a great deal on such a large rug with bound edges, complete with underpad and delivery. They had a great selection, were patient while we decided on a style and were on time with delivery as they promised. If you need carpet, or rug remnant, go see Mike!

As new homeowners, we were a bit nervous hiring a contractor that we didnt know for such a large job. But Marcel put us at ease from the very beginning. We appreciated that he was onsite every day and discussed even minor details like the type of light fixture and carpet colour. The crew worked quickly, neatly and I never felt nervous leaving them in the house. Marcel was even so kind as to get a LARGE sticker made of a hockey team logo and put it on one of the walls. So cool! We'd definitely hire and recommend CBU over and over again!

I was referred to Gerry's by a friend-contractor of mine. They were quick to come out and quote and were able to get the job done fairly quickly after my approval. However I did notice that one of the existing vents on a lower level roof (that they were not working on) was crushed on one side - looked like someone stepped on it. I called and Gerry at first said "it was like that" which wasn't true but after a bit of back and forth, he sent someone out to replace the vent all together. There was a bit of a mess on the ground afterwards (old shingle pieces, nails) but overall, there haven't been any leaks and that's the most important part!
