Fortunately, I too only paid for a consultation/quote rather than having paid the entire estimate for the work to be done. I have been looking at finishing our 730 sqft basement with laundry room and a 2 piece bathroom. After calling and setting a date (a 2 month wait by the way) for someone to come out for a consultation/quote and I was excited. Why? Because of watching years of Make It Right shows I wanted to get the job done right. After the meeting with the Estimator for 2 hours he said he would work on the quote over the weekend and email me next week. I found this odd because I don't expect anyone to work on weekends, hence why I want to have someone finish my basement for me instead of me working on weekends finishing the basement. Well I didn't hear from him the next week. So I emailed, no response. Waited another week, called his cell phone, left a voicemail, no return phone call. Called 2 days later at the his office phone number and he picked up, asked about quote and he said by end of week, never received the quote. So one more try and then I would call for a refund. I emailed him the next week asking for the quote and wouldn't you know 2 hours later I get a reply with the quote attached. The quote was outrageous and I feel that it was grossly over inflated because they didn't want to do a small basement. $66,000 for a 730 sqft. basement? That is $90 per sqft! After emailing back asking for a phone conversation to discuss the quote and what it all details, I have never heard back. I am tired of chasing someone down and if this is how it is with an estimator I can imagine how it would be with the project manager. If Make it Right feels some projects are too small for them, then they should not be taking your money for a quote, showing up all full of what they can do, and then never respond. Just be honest up front say the project is too small or what ever the reason is. I just want honesty. I wanted to get a good qualified company to update my home, i was left very disappointed.
