We called Danco to do a simple install of some lighting in our kitchen. He was able to come by the next day, which was much faster than I was expecting and is definitely points in his favour. When he arrived we talked about what he wanted to do and, while he would happily install what we had, he let us know about some downsides that we had not considered. He then made some suggestions that would probably cost us less than we were looking at. He also let me know how I could do the install myself (always willing to do it if I decided against doing it myself). He left after about 15 minutes without charging us for his time. Dan earned his trust from me - instead of simply taking my money and letting me be dissatisfied with the lighting I had chosen, he gave us some great advice and did not charge us. So you can trust him not to do work that you don't need, and to look out for your best interests. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Bottom line: great communication, great knowledge, great stick-to-it-ive-ness. Story: 1) Phoned him, he answered right away. Still waiting for two other companies to get back to me. 2) Came in, went through a thorough checking of the wiring, explaining what he was doing, and why, the entire time. 3) Discovered that the problem was in the power coming into my house. 4) Phoned Hydro Ottawa himself, talked to the techs there on my behalf, and arranged for Hydro to come over. That summary does not do him justice, as the problem was intermittent and required a specific set of circumstances for it to occur. So even finding the issue took a bit of detective work. So, yeah, great guy, would use him again, and would highly recommend him to others.
