From initial point of contact, to job completion was only one week. Paul was friendly and professional in taking my details, answering my questions, and booking my appointment. Adrian, who came to the house and did the job, was such a nice guy -- went about his work in a clean and efficient manner, with a great personality. My home is a bungalow, where the lower level has been completely finished as a fully independent second suite. I was concerned that this might limit their access to the duct work, but Paul reassured me at time of booking that it shouldn't be a problem -- and as he predicted, it was not an issue at all. I requested "the works" when I phoned, fully suspecting that the furnace blower and AC coil would need some attention as well, but was pleasantly surprised when Adrian's inspection revealed that those two extras weren't really necessary after all. I chose The Duct Cleaning Specialists based on their great reviews here on Homestars (and how they give back to the community in various ways), and I can happily attest to their honesty, integrity, and very reasonable pricing. I would definitely use them again in future, and recommend them to others!

Wow! These guys are on top of their game; it took only 14 days from my initial call, to the quote, to the final completion. Everyone played their roles perfectly: Holly in the office booked my quote for the very next day, was quick to reply to my other inquiries along the way, and Jill was so friendly to deal with on the delivery/install bookings; Max was very comfortable to talk to and knowledgeable, taking his time to thoroughly address all of our questions and options when he provided the quote; Mike and his team of guys were very polite and efficient in getting the job done when it was time to install. As a responsible shopper, I had called a couple other places for quotes as well, but ‘Alternative Company A’ was slow – they had my estimate booked two weeks out … and ‘Alternative Company B’ was unresponsive – they failed to return my initial call (which was taken by an answering service) until a week and a half later. By that time, my New Steel Roofing materials had already been delivered to my driveway! It wasn’t just New Steel Roofing’s quick action that secured our sale though (although it helped!); it was also the fact that they were able to offer a superior product that the other two companies didn’t provide – it was the STONE COATED metal roof panels that we were impressed with. We had them install a Metstar F-Series Stone Coated ‘Shake’ roof over the asphalt shingles on our Hamilton bungalow. The price was easily in line with what I would’ve expected to pay for metal roofing, and the fact that the option to go ‘stone coated’ was not prohibitively higher at all than the slightly cheaper high-gloss painted alternative, made the selection easy. The stone coated treatment looks nicer, but even more importantly: it prevents sudden and treacherous ice/snow slide off from your roof, possibly onto unsuspecting people or pets, while potentially tearing your eaves down along with it! The reasonable price, combined with their willingness to match a competitor’s promotion, meant that we could even reach that extra little bit to have our shed done as well. To summarize: we were very impressed with New Steel Roofers speed and level of service, and we were satisfied that their pricing is quite reasonable, at the lower end of average for steel roofing. I would (and will!) certainly recommend New Steel Roofers to anyone making the wise decision to go with metal roofing. I would be happy for this company to provide my address and phone number as a reference to anyone considering them.

Due to the good reviews here on HomeStars, we called Ian to come and quote us on the installation of some under-cabinet task lighting in the kitchen, and moving an electrical outlet. He returned our call promptly, and came out to provide a quote the very next day. When he came around, he was very friendly and professional and knowledgeable. We booked him to come and do the job, and he was great about making himself available around our kitchen renovation schedule. When it came to doing the work for us, he showed up bright and early, did a fabulous job, and even took a while extra to look at another issue we wanted some advice/direction on. Ian is definitely a pleasure to do business with; he takes the time to explain things in easy terms, and seems to genuinely care about keeping things affordable for your budget. Customer service is obviously something he places high value on, and we very much appreciated everything! ... (I had wanted to post this review much sooner, but we had some family circumstances that threw us a bit of a wrench, so my apologies for the delay!)

We’re going through our second year of lawn care with Turf King, and couldn’t be more pleased with the service and results we’ve seen! Last year, we subscribed to their lawn care package which includes core aeration/over-seeding/cinch bug treatment/fertilizing/and spot weed treatment to repair our cinch bug ravaged lawn. Previous to this, I can’t even describe how hopeless our yard was from all the cinch bug damage; it was entirely brown -- a matted tangle of near-straw. Although I was just about convinced that re-sodding would be the only solution, my husband convinced me that it would be a lot more cost-effective to at least try a professional lawn care program. I’m positively amazed at how Turf King turned our lawn around! Their care and attention made a WORLD of difference, so we renewed the package again this year. (Good thing too, because due to a car fire in our neighbour’s driveway, the big cedar on the front lawn was heavily damaged and needed to be removed, leaving a huge empty circle of dirt needing more seeding!) On top of all this, the customer service experience has been outstanding! They have been very knowledgeable with the questions I have asked along the way, and even with my more complicated issues: they’ve dug right into researching on my behalf and providing me with more information and links to articles, etc., and helping in every way they could with a shrub infestation we encountered. They are very accessible and quick to reply by email, Facebook, and phone, and in general they have consistently gone above and beyond to ensure that we are satisfied and that our lawn is a successful reflection of their great service!

My RCC experience (with the Hamilton branch) began when I contracted a window company for a window replacement – we wanted to make a small basement window bigger (for egress and natural lighting), but this necessitated excavation, waterproofing and draining, and installation of a window well. I had never needed to contract basement/foundation professionals before, so I had no idea where to begin. Thankfully, the window people were kind enough to refer your company, as they had worked with you in the past with good results. The sales rep, Danny, came out to size up the job and give us a quote. Hands down, he was one of the best sales guys I’ve come across, ever. He was friendly (without being shmaltzy, like so many other salespeople!), down-to-earth, polite and professional. I was so pleased that he took the time to thoroughly explain the whole process of what they would do, and answered all of my questions and concerns completely. It found it very reassuring that it was obviously important to him that I know and understand what they’d be doing, every step of the way. The quote that he provided was higher than I was expecting, but I realize that it’s not fair for me to have had any expectation on price, considering I’d never contracted basement/foundation work before. The only point of reference I had was a ball park guess provided by the sales guy at the window company I initially called first – his guess was much lower, but then: he’s a window guy, not a basement guy, hehe! ... Based on the higher-than-anticipated estimate, I researched RCC further and asked Danny for some references which he agreeably and promptly provided. After speaking to the references (one of whom was highly relevant, also being a partnership with RCC and the window company for a basement window well – kudos to Danny for selecting such a perfect reference!), I was sold. Danny’s superior sales approach, RCC’s long-standing history, and the reference combined, made me confident and convinced that RCC would be a wise choice. Sam, and the team of guys who performed the work, were great. They were fast, polite and respectful. They also made sure that any mess/disruption were minimal throughout the process, and completely cleaned up afterwards. I’d really like them to know that their work is highly valued and appreciated! They were a fantastic bunch of guys, with strong work ethics and good personalities, and delivered on a job well done! Now that the window and window well are in place, I have every confidence that it will be perfectly and reliably waterproof, and it’s made a world of difference to the basement bedroom! It looks bigger and brighter, and I feel better knowing that my son will sleep in a room that is now safer with a proper egress in case of (heaven forbid) fire/emergency.

This is the second time I've contracted Beverley Hills for window replacement, and have been very pleased with the price, service, installation, and end product. With regards to Sales, Art was nice and professional and able to answer all of our questions. I liked the fact that their office made sure that we rec'd the same salesperson, the second time around. With regards to Customer Service, Kim in the office was excellent (quick, and friendly) with her confirmation, booking, follow-up emails. As for the installation, Archie and his partner were very polite and worked together like a well-oiled machine -- the three windows (one casement, two small side-sliders; all three in a finished basement) were done faster than I expected, looked great, and operated smoothly. This particular job required a little extra finesse because one of the windows we were replacing was in a basement bedroom. It was originally one of those typical small basement windows, but I wanted to make it larger for safety/egress purposes and to brighten up the room. We decided to keep the width the same, but deepen the window, and settled upon a 30" x 44" casement. This required Beverley Hills to knock out some of the concrete foundation blocks, and also necessitated some outside excavation and installation of a window-well by a professional basement/foundation company. Fortunately, Beverley Hills was able to refer a really good and reputable basement foundation company AND coordinated the whole job with them. Both teams jived seamlessly, one after the other: basement guys -- window guys -- basement guys again. There's no way I would've believed it could possibly run THAT smoothly and quickly, but it truly did! With regards to after-sales/warranty support ... I honestly can't say, because the good news is: I've never needed it! This is a testament to their superior product and workmanship, considering the first time I used Beverley Hills was in my previous home, where we lived very happily with their window installation for a few/several years before we sold that house -- we never encountered any drafts/squeaks/sticking/misalignments at all! Based on how professionally and conscientiously they've handled everything else, I'm perfectly confident that they'll be there for me if I ever need support this time around, but I'm optimistic that I won't need to call them again until it's time to have more windows done!

I really enjoy and appreciate the Homestars website. Word-of-mouth is truly the best way to find a conscientious and reliable contractor when home-improvement time comes round. Homestars makes it possible to conjure up hundreds of word-of-mouth recommendations (and/or warnings!) right at my fingertips. I still ask my friends and family for their two cents of course, but Homestars has become a bigger (and therefore usually more accurate/reliable) compendium. The concept of Homestars is simply brilliant of course, and I applaud the creative vision behind it. And to everyone who works hard at keeping things running smoothly like a well-oiled machine: bravo! I also very much enjoyed the newsletter I just received. I read all of the most recent blog posts and thought they were great! So in case you don’t hear it often enough, please know that from a consumer perspective, you’re doing fabulously – all of the planning, organizing and implementing that goes into your work is valued and admired!

We've done a great deal of restoration to our 95yr old, 2.5 storey Hamilton home, but as with any near-century home, there's always improvements to be made! Now that we're considering selling soon, it can be hard to tell which improvements need to made more urgently than others, and how to prioritize! Based on this, we called Brent in to give us a pre-listing inspection. We were very impressed with his thorough and detailed report, and so very appreciative of the time he took to really explain things and answer questions. Brent was professional and analytical, friendly and approachable, honest and diplomatic. It was truly evident that he is invested in his work and cares enough about customer service to transform the whole home inspection procedure beyond merely the provision of a formal report ... he made it into a complete advisory session and educational experience. Thanks to his guidance, we now have a clear understanding of what issues need to be addressed before the "For Sale" sign goes up, and what issues are not as pressing. We will certainly be calling Brent again when we go house-hunting, and we will indeed let everyone know that he is entirely worthy of the ten-star rating he's earned!

Hey Deanna in Hamilton !!! It was great meeting with you and your family! What a lovely home! Hamilton has some great century homes, and that certainly is one of them. Hopefully the pre-listing inspection will make the selling process a little easier for you. Yes, there were some issues to be addressed, but overall, a home that has been well maintained over the years. I hope the next homeowners have the same apprecation of the home that you and your family do! All the best with your house hunting, and thank you for choosing Classic Home Inspections!

Let me preface this by saying that I can be one tough customer. I do my homework, and when I spend thousands of dollars on goods/service, I set the bar pretty high. Danny and his team didn't meet the bar ... they CLEARED it by a mile, exceeding my expectations and standards every step of the way. I wish I could add more stars to this review! I called out three estimates for a whole new roof and City 1 definitely made my 'short list' due to the reviews on homestars.ca and even more impressive -- that Danny replies personally to each one! An outstanding indicator! Danny answered directly when I called*. He happily agreed to provide an estimate and arrived as scheduled two days later*. He spent 30-45mins thoroughly assessing my roof , ON the roof*!! He was immediately likeable: friendly, comfortable, and approachable*. * same can not be said for the other two companies I called. While I was still waiting on the last quote from the third company, Danny's excellent customer service endured. I had him chasing down more answers to my further numerous questions on product, warranty/documentation information. He continually replied right away, and whatever info he didn't have directly at hand, he immediately pursued and kept me promptly informed the whole way along. He was contacting offices and suppliers on my behalf, he was researching and comparing warranties for me, he definitely went the full nine yards and made it clear he was happy to help! At this point, I was entirely impressed with Danny's customer service and honesty, which left the other two companies shamefully in the shadows. With regards to the price, Danny came in significantly lower than the highest quote, and only a stone's throw more than the lowest price. Considering the company with lowest price was also the one with the poorest (nearly insulting) customer handling, I was happy to sign with City 1 for the marginal extra price. I value good treatment quite highly when I shop around. When roofing day came, everyone was on time and worked long and hard. Danny and Chuck and the whole team were just fabulous, in general! Everyone stayed safely harnessed which pleased me, and even at the end of a long hard day, they didn't skimp on the clean-up. My roof and all the details look great, and I have every confidence that the workmanship and quality of the installation will prove over time to be every bit as satisfactory and reliable as the rest of my experience was with them. A whole new roof is a considerable investment, but I am pleased to have spent every penny of it at City 1 where it was so well earned, and my business was appreciated. I genuinely wish everybody's roofing experience could be this good -- and I know it can be if they call Danny! -- so I'll certainly be sure to spread the City 1 love!
