Our sump pump stopped working and the pit continued to fill. Fortunately for us, Harris Plumping had installed an emergency back-up pump 2 years earlier when we bought the house. However, we were still very worried because the emergency pump was working so hard. We called, and Brendan came very soon after (he had 3 other emergency calls before us). He was great. Fixed the problem very quickly, and clearly explained everything. We appreciate the fact that Harris Plumbing has always charged us solely for the work that needs to be done and never added any unnecessary repairs. Brendan was very respectful of our home and did a great job.

We bought a home in Aurora that had water in the basement that the seller had hidden. We hired Clarke's services and they recommended a perimeter drain system that connected to the sump pump. They did the job in 2 days and the concrete floor has been dry ever since. We are very happy with their service and would recommend them to others.

We recently bought a home in Aurora that needed waterproofing work in the basement. In order to put in a perimeter drain, we needed to move the furnace and hot water tank so the drain could run behind them. Al came in on short notice and moved the furnace and water tank in the morning and came back and moved them back the next day. He was very quick, courteous and a great help. We would definitely use his services again.

This was our second time using Waterworks, and most definitely, our last. Now, in 2016, a hum started which seemed to come from the same shower fixture or the adjacent Jacuzzi tub. We called up Waterworks again owing to their HomeStars' rating. The plumber arrived and said that based on the location of where the sound seemed to emanate, he needed to make a hole in the ceiling to look at the pipes. He told us that qualified as a "plumbing diagnostic (major)" and the cost was $509.06. We were desperate and so we approved the cost. The plumber found nothing amiss, and decided the hum was coming from the Jacuzzi tub, and Waterworks does not repair Jacuzzi tubs. The plumber spent 20 minutes in total in our home, and in addition to the "diagnostic" charge, the service call charge was $39.00 for a total of $619.30 with tax. I would not be writing a negative review except for the fact that the second company I contacted, did a fantastic job. He determined that the hum was a result of a faulty valve on our humidifier attached to the furnace and the sound traveled up the wall pipes to the upstairs bathroom, and when I told him that the shower upstairs was broken but the previous plumber from WaterWorks who had worked on it could not identify the brand, he just picked up the shower wand and said, "It's stamped 'Aquabrass.'" It did take the second plumber 5 hours to determine the cause of the hum, but he charged us only $672.35 for the whole day's work. This suggests to me that WaterWorks is overpriced and simply capitalizes from its misleading ratings on HomeStars. I will _never_ use them or recommend them again. Initially, we didn't know that we had been overcharged off until the work was fixed by another plumber at a significantly cheaper rate.

Dear David,
My name is Michael Yuffa and I am the owner of Waterworks. I am terribly sorry about this disappointment that you experienced with our service. As the owner of Waterworks, I am committed to 100% customer satisfaction and in this isolated case I failed to live up to my own standards. In order to ensure 100% customer satisfaction, we call every customer after the service appointment is completed. We called you as well and were told that all was ok. I regret that you did not report this incident to our customer service representative when she called you to follow up. Had we known about our failure to live up to your expectations we would have, as is our policy, offered you a choice of either returning to your home to do whatever it would take to resolve your problem with no additional charge or refund your money in full. I am saddened that you did not call me to give me the opportunity to resolve this situation because I surely would have.
Although you say that you will never use us or recommend us, I cannot keep your money if you did not receive the value that you expect and I would be happy to refund your payment in full.
I know that I can change your opinion of us if you give us a second chance so I would also like to offer you a second option. If you wish, in lieu of a refund of the total amount of $619.30, I will give you a credit towards future work of $1,238.60 which is double the amount of the refund.
Please contact Randa for my personal number which Randa will give you at your convenience and I will be happy to deliver the option that you choose.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Michael Yuffa

Steven McCoy is amazing. We had a humming noise that had started a couple weeks ago and we could not figure out the cause, and we were not sure about the location. We tried a general plumbing company first, and that other company showed up, performed an assessment that took 20 min. by cutting a hole in the wall, and charged us $619! Then told us their company does not fix spa tubs. So I located McCoy Whirlpool and Spa, and Steven came a day later. He too, had difficulty locating the "hum" but he was persistent. He methodically eliminated possible sources until he discovered that the problem was the humidifier connected to the furnace. The gauge was faulty and was causing a hum to travel up the pipes so it sounded like it was coming from the second floor bathroom. And his labour charge was only $672 after working nonstop for 5 hours! He solved our problem and we could not be happier! You don't find this kind of old-school dedication and professionalism very often these days. I would definitely hire Steven without hesitation again in the future, and I have already recommended him to a few people I know.

In October 2009, I had Home Depot's Installation Services install a new flat roof on our home and a new skylight. (This review is about the flat roof portion that they did. The sloped roof portion was under a separate contract and cost an additional $4707.27.) The Home Depot quote was about $2000 more than the next contractor, but we believed in the brand and the warranty at the time. We started having problems last year and we thought it was due to an ice storm in the spring. So we called up an eave company and had all our eaves replaced. We had to disconnect our gutters from the sewer line, so we thought it would solve two problems. However, it now turns out that the problem is the terrible job Home Depot did. We are now having to rip out the entire flat roof job and start from scratch at a cost of $6,446.25! The Home Depot installation comes with a warranty of 5 years, but we are in our 6th year. A roof should last at least 20 years! I am posting this review as a warning to anyone thinking Home Depot is worth considering. I have attached photos of the membrane which has separated all around the edges of the roof. As well, you can see how bad the skylight was installed. We don't have a ladder to access our roof, so I was never able to check on it myself. I had to rely on trusting Home Depot. I would demand my money back if I could.

Mr Roof Repair.ca showed up at our home very quickly after the initial call and did a thorough job of inspecting what needed to be done. They took us outside to explain the problems and to make sure we understood our options. Within a few days, they emailed a report with images explaining the issues in detail. No one has ever provided an estimate with photos before. We were very impressed and look forward to the same professionalism when the job is completed.

Merjo Brothers is fantastic! Andy came to my home on a Tuesday to provide a quote. On Wednesday I went to see 2 jobs he completed in Etobicoke and I liked them so much I confirmed the job with him. He said he could do the job 3 days later--a Saturday. Andy and his crew showed up early Saturday morning and completed the removal of old asphalt, regrading of the slope, and the installation of the new paving stone all in one day. The joints are very tight, and the details around corners is very well considered. I also appreciate the fact that Andy came to get me to approve the gravel and slope before they installed the paving stones. A lot of contractors fail to keep the home owners involved as the work progresses. I already had 2 neighbors stop by after Andy left and ask for his contact information. I would _most_ definitely use his services again! His price is very reasonable. If I could, I would give him a score of 11.

We live in an old home which was not insulated and had the underside of our bedroom floor which overhung our porch insulated. This meant that the existing ceiling had to be ripped out and replaced after the insulation was installed. TipTop came in and did a terrific job putting in a new aluminum ceiling. Our home has settled over the years, and the beam over the porch has slightly warped. TipTip had to cut a very customized piece of aluminum for the fascia cladding to fit, and they did it very well. We used Tip Top to replace our gutters last year and we are glad to use their services again. We would continue to use their company again!

After 5 years of never having the furnace checked, it was time to have someone look at it. AFG Heating arranged a visit within a week and they did a thorough check-up. The service technician Rafi explained all the work that he was doing as he was doing it and was very courteous and professional. I would definitely call on AFG again in the future if needed.

We had a terrific experience with Tip Top Trough. Our home is small and the job wasn't going to make Tip Top a lot of money, but he treated us with courtesy and respect like like any other customer. And after the install, there was a small leak in the drainpipe that showed up after the first rain and he had his crew come fix it right away. Even his employees were very courteous. We would hire him again without hesitation.
