My flat roof was a mess and I was constantly worried that it would start to leak. I was also interested in "cool roof" options to reduce heat gain in the second floor of my older Toronto home. A big black roof just soaks up the heat and a cool (white) roof reflects a lot of the sun's energy and stays much cooler. This type of roofing is common on commercial buildings. Upon asking other contractors about cool roof options they just said "we don't do that" so I moved on. I contacted Tim Mulroy and he was very receptive to my request and we ended up using Soprema Soprastar cap for the flat roof and Certainteed Landmark Solaris Platinum asphalt shingles for a small patch of adjacent pitched roof. The cost to upgrade to these products was around $750 over conventional products, which was reasonable to me, so I signed a contract with Toronto Roofing Industries. Due to rain, the work couldn't start right away but once the team started the work, they were at my home continuously until the work was complete. The job also included new fascia, soffit and gutters which was part of the contract but the work was done quickly and to my satisfaction by a subcontractor. A cool white roof may not be for you if aesthetics is an issue. No part of my roof that is white can be seen from the ground so it made perfect sense in my case.

A section of the brick foundation in my basement needed repair, as well as some tuckpointing, parging, filling in a window with concrete blocks, and repairing a crack in the floor. I contacted Steve and he promptly came to my house to give a quote. Right away he was able to identify everything that needed to be done so I didn't need to go through my list. That gave me confidence Steve would be a good choice. A few days later, Steve started the work and was very efficient, thorough and tidy. Steve takes pride in his work... even in this unfinished area in my basement that I use for storage and where the furnace is, he finished it off like it would be seen by everybody coming into my house. I appreciated the attention to detail! Steve's price was fair and reasonable. I would hire him again without hesitation!

Asselin replaced my flat roof in 2004 with a 10 year warranty. I had a leak in 2006 where the plumbing stack comes up through the roof. The owner Jack was very unpleasant to deal with, but they did repair it at the time. Now, I am concerned about two problems with my roof: 2 large blisters and extensive cracking around the edges were the flashing is embedded into the asphalt. I called today and spoke to Jack. I did not mention my name or address, but when I described the problems he claimed to "remember my roof" and proceeded to tell me these were normal conditions. He also said it is "impossible for a five ply rood to leak". I mentioned it did leak a few years ago and he repaired it, therefore it is not impossible for the roof to leak, which he shrugged off and mentioned the impossibility a few more times in the conversation. At one point he mentioned they would come look at my roof, so I asked that he do so. Then he said he will come only if there is a leak. I insisted that he send somebody since he offered, then it got really weird. He said he was with a customer on their roof and I must call the office and speak to "one of the girls" to set up the visit. But I had called his office and his "girl" answered the phone, then passed it to him! So the entire conversation was bizarre. I worry about the blisters and cracking developing leaks. Based on all the other reviews, I suppose I'll be paying for another company to make the repairs. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!
