James, thank you so much for the kind words. We happened to be travelling with one of the stumpers that day and it worked out well all around. When the leaves fully uncurl on your Maple tree then any time after that is an excellent time to distinguish the live growth from what limbs may have died off over winter. We'll clean out the deadwood, aerate the inner crown and get the tree off to a good growing season. I appreciate you taking the time to review us. Thanks for telling your story Ken. That Manitoba Maple tree is considered a softwood and as such, is usually more prone to toppling and breakage than their hardwood counterparts. They are rapidly growing what we call "weed trees" that offer abundant foliage in a short time but sometimes overgrow their ability to support their own weight, unless periodically pruned to reduce overburdened limbs. Your tree had all of that and a menacing lean over your neighbour's yard. You were wise to be proactive before an accident or injury occurred. Thank you for choosing us to help you with your project. Hey Marilyn, Thanks so much for the work and the kind words. I had a blast pruning those two large maples. The canopy has been thinned from within, removing deadwood and redundant growth which will increase the airflow through the trees, allowing improved wind resistance and much better sunlight penetration to the back garden. By retaining the natural form of these Maple trees, you won't encourage an abundance of unwanted sucker growth you would encounter if large limbs were cropped back or topped to random lengths. The trees will do very well this year, as the root system now has an abundance of energy to distribute to a thinner, streamlined canopy. I'm happy that you're passionate about the care of these large beauties. They add a lot of value to the property, they look magnificent, they are well maintained and should give you many years of enjoyment. Thank you for placing your confidence in us. Thank you very much for the winter job and the kind review of our work. That tree had a nasty lean towards the house and with half of the root system mined out by the ant colony at the base, it was likely to fall over at some point. The added weight of winter ice and snow may have been enough to eventually cause the tree to topple. You were wise not to wait any longer. It was listing toward the house at a bad angle that might have been persuaded to fall with a hard gust of wind or a coating of ice. You were wise to preempt the hazard.
