Beware of Protection Plan Payout when moving!

My 89 year old mother, a long time Enercare customer, recently sold her home due to failing health and moved into a retirement residence. Her heating protection plan, which she has had for years, automatically renews on the anniversary date. On her final bill, she was charged a very large amount (8 months worth of charges) for a plan she no longer requires in a home she no longer owns. She had no idea that the plan could not be cancelled when the home was sold! BEWARE! ENercare was not willing to make any adjustments or accommodate her in any way. I find it completely unacceptable and unprofessional to treat long term customers this way, given her circumstances!

    Answer from pro:

Hi Pat- Thanks for reaching out. These details would have been clearly outlined in the Terms and Conditions of your contract which are mailed out annually reminding of renewal. If you have any further questions please reach to support@enercare.ca and I'd be happy to assist. Thank you.

    Dishonest business practices

Bought a house six months ago with water heater rental installed. Lawyers failed to tell me that I am entering a contract with said company by signing house purchase. Paid rental fees for six months. Remodelling now so I wanted to cancel contract. ALL rental heaters HAVE to be bought out!! Enercare is asking for $700. Will contact Enbrigde ombudsman to have bills seperated so I can stop paying. This company carries over contracts from previous customers onto new owners of the house. This practice should not be legal in the first place. Stay away! If you buy a place, exclude all rentals from contract.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Andreas- Thanks for reaching out. All rental conditions would have been clearly outlined in the PSA agreement upon purchase of the property. It is the responsibility of your lawyer to ensure that you are aware of these conditions. If you have any further questions please email me at Officeofthepresident@enercare.ca and I'd be happy to assist. Thank you.

    Fireplace Service Tech

The service tech Jay D was awesome!! He was on time, he was polite, he made sure he explained everything that was being done, so I knew what the problem was. As well he advised me of the problems with my fireplace. He was honest by letting me know what really had to be replaced or not. Out of scale of 1-10 I would give Jay D 11!! Thanks for your help.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Sue! We're so glad to hear this and will certainly pass your great feedback along to Jay.

Never get into their protection plans

I moved into this house recently and called them to enquire about their heating protection and maintenance plan. The agent told me they have a 1 year contract but since i was not sure how my furnace was i clearly asked the agent what happens if i my furnace needs replacement upon their first visit and was told that if the furnace was in a condition they cannot cover under the plan i would not be charged and the contract will not apply. It took forever for them to find an appointment for inspection. After repeated calls i called them 1 month later and asked them to cancel as they were not scheduling any appointment. As soon as i said i want to cancel they schedule someone to come next day. Next day the technician comes and says everything is good with the furnace but after he left the furnace stopped working so i call them middle of the night for them to come. They sent someone next day evening. This technician is shocked to see the furnace and red tagged it saying there is no way you should be operating this and the previous technician was a fool which he said the company has started hiring these days without any experience. This was my worry before getting into the contract but as i had assurance from the agent that i need not oblige to the contract if my furnace cannot be covered i called them to cancel the contract. Now they want me to pay for remaining of the contract. I have called them several times and everytime they say someome will call in 72 hours and no one does. Now they are going to listen to my calls and call me back in 72 hours. I have no expectations from this company and these contracts and their selling agents will try to trick you to upsell. Be very careful and dont just go by what they try to sell you. My dispute is still on and i will even fight legally to get out of this.

Prepare to be shocked if you have to cancel the rental agreement

OK I know it was partly my fault not to halt installation when I got a look at the rental agreement but in all fairness it wasn't presented to me until after the tank had been put in. They were contractors and not Enercare people. When I did see it I asked if they could remove it but I guess I chuckled so we all thought I was joking. Anyway we had to replace our boiler and they explained the chimney was not an option for venting anymore for a boiler or a hot water tank. So they ordered the new boiler and the Enercare tank had to go. Ka ching. Very expensive on the way out. Buy your own tank is my advice.

    Terrible watch out

My furnace broke down and I called this company for repair. The furnace was old and it could not go on the service plan. I got a new furnace installed by these people and that was very hectic. I could not get a straight answer out of anyone. The new furnace is three weeks old tomorrow. This morning I woke up with no heat in my home. A repair man came out and could not repair the furnace. The temperature will be -16 tonight. We have been forced to go to a hotel. I called them from the hotel and it took 45 minutes before I got to talk to a manager. He has told me that I have to wait at home until the new part that is required shows up at my house and then I have to phone them to arrange an appointment to get it installed. If this is the kind of hell you want in your life then deal with this company. I would not recommend this company to anyone as a matter fact avoid it.

    A+ installation services

The tech (Craig) was absolutely awesome. He put drop cloths all the way down to the basement and explained everything to me. Would highly recommend him to anyone needing an installer.

No problems until they decided to double bill me for no reason.

EnerCare double billed me for a heat protection plan. I enquired about it and CS gave me a few different reasons for the double billing including they never sent out Octobers bill, or It was a billing error and the one I love is when they told me I never paid for Octobers bill. Even with proof these people keep telling me the bill is right. I have called several times with EnerCare reps stating that someone would call me back and never do. Because of EnerCares lousy CS I was forced to cancel the plan because these reps keep saying I owe money and they cant comprehend that this is truly a billing error on their part. Ive been with this company since it was Direct Energy I signed up i think in 2009 and in a matter of a billing cycle EnerCare managed to fabricate a bill and loose a customer over a Billing mistake on their part. You will never have my money again! You treat people like crap you dont return calls, and your customer service is decades behind a real company that does care how they treat their customers. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Their rental water heater is a costly joke

I have a rental water heater unit since I took over the townhouse 4 years ago. recently I found out that the price of the exact same water heater rental is $50/month whereas ENERCARE has been charging me $65 / month. I went to the customer service, many phone calls and long wait time, we got a technician into the house and verified that the water heater is currently $50 / month. After the technician verified the price and model of the water heater, they could not blame me for not able to locate the model number and excuses, they agreed to do an adjustment based on the finding of the case. But the price will reflect on the bill after 3 months. So I waited 3 months, the price is still the same. I called them again. Guess what? This time they change their story, they told me that this water heater was installed in 2009 but the price came down in 2011, so I have to pay the originally agreed pricing. but when I ask to see the contract? there is NO contract. Basically if I take the current water heater out and put it back in again, the price will come down. This is probably the most ridiculous story I have ever heard. Conclusion, these people cannot be trusted, and they will do anything and make up any stories to make you pay more. 1. Customer Services usually transfer you to one after another without actually working on the issue. 2. The response time is very slow, sometimes you have to beg them to give you a reply. 3. Customer retention is a joke. They cannot make any decision. All decision has to be review by their "upper management". 4. Charge you however much they want and keep doing that until you cancel the plan. 5. Tell you different stories, and different way to solve these problem every time you call. NO Standard Operation Procedures at all. 6. Please check your rental prices with their sales team pretending you are a new customer, you might be surprised. 7. I paid more than $1000 over extra for nothing all these years with this company, don't make the same mistake. STOP right now because you will NEVER get your money back.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Nian- Thanks for the feedback. As rental water heaters are long term investments, it is inevitable that prices will change over the lifespan of each individual unit. We always try to offer customers the best price for their equipment at the time of the installation.
