We just converted our home from propane to natural gas. So we needed a new hot water tank. The contractor removed the old one so we could return it to the rental company. (That's what you do with rentals, right?) We bought a new natural gas hot water tank. But surprise, surprise, Direct Energy refuses to accept the return. They demand we buy the tank - for more than it would cost for a new one. Why has this blind-sided us? Because the previous owners of the house signed a ridiculous contract with Direct Energy saying that the only way out of the rental agreement is to buy the product. Then why the heck would you rent in the first place? Just buy it people! Do the math. How much are you actually paying to "rent" your hot water tank, when purchasing it outright would cost so much less. We need to put these people out of business. Don't be taken in by slick salesmen. Stop hot water tank rentals altogether!!!
