Left in the freezing cold
I have a Heating Protection Plan with Enercare and a fairly old furnace. I have had the plan for about 18 years. In January Enercare scheduled a routine cleaning service call on my furnace. The furnace had been working just fine and they hadn't been to my home in 2 years. The service provider showed up on a Friday in January to conduct the routine service call. After the call he refused to turn the furnace back on. He claimed the furnace was unsafe and issued a 'tag'. Me and my family were left without any heat in Ontario for the entire weekend. I called another heating repair company and they said it was a common part that needed to be replaced and the service provider should have had the part on hand, but he never offered to fix it. He also said that with old furnaces, Enercare has a reputation of doing this sort of thing to pressure people into buying a new furnace.
After this experience I was not willing to let Enercare service providers into my home. I lost all faith in them. So I wanted to cancel my protection plan. I would rather pay someone else to come for repairs than deal with them. Upon cancellation, they insisted that I could only cancel my plan in May and I could cancel my plan, but I would have to continue to pay for it until May. Another 167$ out of my pocket for this experience. Now I have to figure out how to get rid of my rented water heater. I would highly discourage anyone from dealing with this company. Their service was horrible. To leave children with no heat for three days in the middle of winter, a disgrace.
