    Laminate Flooring

We found Mike online because of his good reviews and people seem to be quite happy with his and his staff's work. Mike's team (Kelly and Pascal) was extremely helpful whether it was over the phone, or through email. Any questions I've had, was promptly answered the next business day. I just moved into a condo with a lot of strata regulations to fulfill in order to get flooring approved. Mike was very patient through the process, understanding that it was stressful for myself as well, and settled all my worries with confidence and experience. Mike was very punctual on the day of measuring for a quote and his contractors were also on time on the actual work day. We've shopped around for many quotes and his was very reasonable for the level of professionalism and quality of work that they provide. We're very happy with the new laminate, as the installer paid attention to detail and didn't seem to "rush" the job. He also respected all my condo's work hours and rules and was very professional throughout the process, answering questions i had along the way. I would definitely recommend Mike and his team to anyone looking to pay a very reasonable price, but expecting great quality workmanship and customer service.

    Laminate Floor Install

One of the most regretful mistakes of my life. A few months ago we bought our first home, and it had carpet installed. We decided that my first upgrade would be to get laminate floors installed. we think they're easier to clean than carpet, and just look nicer. We looked around the web and went to a few stores, but saw that Mike's Flooring had good reviews. They sounded like they were an honest and dependable local company, so we wanted to support them. When Mike came over to do the estimate, he seemed like a good guy. He was easy to talk to and was very confident when he answered all out questions. He mentioned that they weren't responsible for levelling the floor. He didn't think that our place would need much levelling, if any. He'd been to other units in my condo complex and they supposedly didn't need levling. This made me feel at ease, especially because he indicated it might be possible to ask the installers to do the levelling if it needed to be done. The day of the install came, and the installers quickly tore out the carpet. I wish I knew in advance how easy this would have been, I would have tried to do this myself. When they did this, we noticed that the subfloor was very uneven. There was one particular lump in the living room which stuck out quite a bit. We were concerned about this, and the installers said they could fix this, and just requested a few hundred more dollars. We paid the extra amount and they basically chisleled out that lump with a hammer and screwdriver. I was surprised that they did it this way. I had assumed they would do something more professional, like with a grinder or something. Anyway, they finished up within a few hours, and I was left with a messy floor. Mike had warned us that they only do a sweep and they weren't responsible for the cleaning. This seemed unprofessional, especially when they admitted that they had a better broom for sweeping the laminate which they didn't bring with them. Another issues was that they needed some weight to hold down the door trim. They didn't bring anything with them for this, and hadn't warned us in adance they'd need things, so they took random parts from around our house: toilet tank lids, random boxes, and closet doors that we had removed. What bugged me most was that when I walked around the place after the installers left, I and noticed several places where the floor sagged and was uneven. I thought I'd get used to it, but it's been a few months and I still hate walking on my floor. I know there's nothing I can do since Mike gave the disclaimer that they weren't responsible, and I wish I realized in adance how badly uneven my floor was. I can't afford to change the floor, and just hope that the laminate boards don't start to break just by simply walking over them. This might have been a few hours of simple work for Mike and his installers, but they have no idea how terrible it is for someone who can't even walk in their own home comfortably because of the floor.

    flooring

I am going to start out by saying that Mikes flooring did an amazing job. They provided very good service! The first thing we did was call Mikes Flooring. They told us that they provide in home estimates which was great because this save us time and gas on driving out to the showroom. Mike scheduled us for evening appointment as we work during business hours - this also made us very happy. Mike showed up on time - very polite, knowledgeable man. He introduced himself and got right to business. He asked us where we were getting the new floors so we showed him. He measured the area which took him 5 minutes. After the measurements he showed us samples of the laminate flooring and went step by step about how this process. He went into details and did not leave anything out. He asked questions about the baseboards, if we were going to remove it ourselves, asked about the transitions, closets doors, removing the old floor ect... things that you would not think about so there were no surprises. Once Mike left we received the estimate within the hour. It was very clear and specific so once again we knew there weren't going to be any surprises as in the past we did some renovation always something would come up. The price was reasonable. We chose 8mm laminate through out the whole house except the kitchen (we left tiles in the kitchen) On the installation date the installers came in and got to work right away. The pulled up the old laminate, removed the baseboard, swept the floor and started the installation. The area was 900sqft. The job finished that day! :) We were very happy about that!. I think that if you were looking to change your floors definitely check out Mikes flooring. We definitely don't regret it! And the floors we got was the Glassgow Oak legacy line. Beautiful color. Very modern and a good price.

    Laminate install

We had laminate installed on May 27th, and are still fighting with this company to date. Mike's flooring didn't do a proper pre-install check of our premises, even when invited to do so by us (the customers). We had holes in our carpet, and when they came to do the estimate, we invited them to take a look at the carpet -- and they declined. They arrived on May 27th to do the install. I stayed out of the installers way in another room while they worked. At no point did anyone ever come to me and discuss any problems with me. By the time they came and got me, the floor was already down. What really happened though? They ripped and cut up all our carpet without a single check or a single thought, and only THEN realized the sub-floor was terribly uneven. Instead of informing us the sub-floor was uneven and asking us what we wanted to do, they secretly called Mike from Mike's Floors and told him (not us), and he advised them to install the floors anyway.. so they installed the laminate on the sub-floor anyway without our informed consent. We now have floors that are bouncing and buckling and will most likely eventually break at the joints (the installers themselves even said it would happen). Mike's Flooring keeps skirting responsibility for this problem despite repeated attempts to work out a resolution with them. Mike's Flooring keeps saying we signed a contract stating they are not responsible for leveling but WE ARE NOT HOLDING THIS COMPANY RESPONSIBLE FOR LEVELING. Instead, we are holding them responsible for weak tactics and faulty business practices. Had they properly inspected the floors, we would never have installed laminate to begin with, we would have left carpet in our unit or had Mike's Floor install Carpet, not laminate. Once they found out we were upset, they tried to pacify us by saying they would take up the floor and we could "pay $5,000 to level the floor". So essentially, they did the job and then held us hostage after-the-fact if we wanted the job done "right". In addition, we found out there there are additional ways to deal with uneven subfloor if that is your only choice when installing laminate, including shimming the floor so the laminate at least doesn't bounce and finally break. This is something we learned after by consulting with additional professionals. Everyone we've spoken to has stated that Mike's Flooring has moved forward in bad faith, bad business practice, and bad contracting. We are unsatisfied customers who feel neglected. We are looking for a written guarantee that they stand behind the installation they did without our informed consent, to which they have been consistently resisting. We are in the process of a Better Business Bureau complaint against this company.

Hardwood Floors in our new home

We recently purchased a new condo that needed the hardwood to be changed.Even though hardwood is a bit expensive the laminate we still decided to get hardwood because the Mikes Carpet & Flooring had a sale on hardwood. They had maple and Oak on sale. We chose to do Oak as it is very strong and we liked the color as well. After we got the in home estimate. We paid the deposit and set a time to install. Even though the job can be done in two days we asked for them to do it in three so it gives us time to move out furniture around. They were oaky to worked around our time. And worked in a timely manner. The installers were very profdessional, very pleasent to work with. They took good care of our home. Our new hardwood looks beautiful! Looks amazing! I knew floors make a difference but not a huge difference. I had a very positive experience with Mikes Carpet & Flooring. And I highly recommend them to everyone- to family, friends and the public!

    Hardwood Floor

They left with a big pile of dust in the middle of our floor. After we cleaned, we saw scratches everywhere. Maybe that's why they don't clean. There are gaps in some areas. There was glue on some parts. We asked the guy who came to install the hardwood to remove it and he told us that after it dries, it will come off easily. Well, it didn't. We ended up using a knife on our new hardwood floor. Disappointed big time. AVOID

Laminate Flooring Purchase for Home Office

I recently started working from home and needed to change over a spare bedroom into a home office. The first thing we had to do was get rid of the carpet and install laminate flooring. Mike's Carpet and Flooring had a lot of different types of flooring to choose from. We ended up going with the laminate because it was cheaper and easier to install. We had a pretty good idea of what type of flooring we were looking for so we didn't need a lot of assistance. We were told that the installation was pretty simple as long as we had the right tools but they also provided a couple of contacts for contractors that they recommended to do the installation. Overall, the store was well organized and the staff were helpful. If I ever bite the bullet and end up ripping out all the carpet in my house and replacing it with hardwood/laminate flooring, I would shop here again.

    Flooring Installation

Choosing Mikes Carpet & Flooring was a easy choice for us to hire them because they were knowlegable, answered any questions we had which made feel good. Another reason was that they had the best price by far. The installation date ran smoothly. Installers worked really hard. Our carpet feels and looks good!

    Laminate floor and carpet

Mike himself is very attentive and ponctual, helped me with a lot of doubts and choosing the correct method. However the installer he sent to do the job was just not a nice guy, yelling and talking back for no reason. The end result had a lot of minor faults and shortcuts that diminished the quality, specially a very big chip on one of the laminates. Let's see how Mike handles it from now though.

    Changing tiles to hardwood

My living room had tiled flooring from the 80s and it was beginning to look a little old school. I asked Mike what I should change it to to give it a refreshing look, and he suggested to me hardwood flooring, and gave me multiple samples from oak to maple wood with different finishes. I took the oak finishing and it was an awesome choice. Thanks Mike!
