    Repair to our stonework

    Last year we worked with Northland to redo our entire front landscape - stairs and driveway. We noticed a stain after the winter on some bricks - maybe from a car? - Northland fixed for free - their reputation is solid - their workmanship is solid - and the pride in customer care - scored a solid 10 for me.

    Asphalt Driveway Replacement

    Like many consumers I consider Homestars prior to contracting out household services. Last fall I did just that when my driveway needed to be replaced. Northland, despite being the most expensive quote was selected based on Homestars recommendations. My rating is based on the following: 1. poor customer service - calls, emails not returned I had to chase them when I had not heard from them to get the job done. I was told 3-5 weeks and finally in the 6th week it was done with my driveway being torn out for 5 of those 6 weeks creating a real mess for my house 2. poor quoting system - what I thought was included in the end was not and could have been for even more cost and a delay in the project (it was already early November) 3.the paving crews clean up compromised my new stone walkway leaving oil stains on it I didn't call the company for any remediation of the oil stains as they didn't respond to calls when they secured the contract so why would they once they had been paid? For me their prior performance preceded them. I would never recommend their services and this in fact is the first company on Homestars that I have been disatisatified with having used many over many years

    Dear Private User, I have difficulties believing this to be a true review as we specifically have staff in place to return each and every phone call. (Some of them are frequently mentioned in past reviews by name) Our office is open from 9-5 and our staff is diligent with returning calls. Our process is to excavate the driveway and return to pave it 3-5 weeks later. It will be left in a gravel state (which you refer to as messy). We leave it that way on purpose. We could certainly pave it earlier but it would compromise the quality of the driveway. We pride ourselves in customer service and every client is informed that we will call them the day before we schedule the paving crew. With regards to the extra charge you reference, our quoting system is written and very clear so there are no surprises or hidden costs. I don't understand your complaint and I have reviewed it with my staff and nobody recalls a situation that would fit this negative review. If your review is legit, why would you not inform us first? If it was felt one of our crews made a mess. We certainly would have corrected any problems. I believe this is an unfair and/or untrue review.

    New Driveway, Walkway and Front Stairs

    Last year we decided to have a new asphalt driveway installed. We were impressed with our neighbours driveway and asked them who did the work. We contacted Northland and they sent Georgio to our home. Georgio took the time to listen to our plans for our home and then made some great suggestions and answered all of our questions, The workmanship was excellent and the work was completed per schedule and we could not be more pleased.

    Driveway with interlock border and walkway

    This project was expensive but I chose the company based on the quality of their work in my area. It was a good choice. The final product looks good. The process from beginning to end went smoothly. I was well informed at all times and pleased with professionalism of the crew. Special thanks go to Sean with whom I signed the contract for his consistent availability and patience for answering all my questions (I had many).

    Project well done!

    We had a project that involved 4 components: a cement floor in the garage, interlocking brick patio with stairway and retaining wall in the backyard, a front porch face lift with interlocking stones and liquid cement, and new asphalt in the lane way. It went well and we are satisfied. We have experienced a customer focused service that was top notch. Very impressed with the finished product.

    A job well done

    So just in their nature not all contracting jobs are a straight line start to finish. I judge a firm by how they navigate the path to successful completion and post payment service. Northland provided super advice on planning the job. Very responsive email on planning and coordinating all the services. Most importantly when a few things poped up after I paid, they continued to be prompt and helpful. I know they are not the cheapest. But I'd use them again and recommend them to my friends.

    Driveway Paved

    We had our driveway paved by Northland last July. I waited to write this review to see how the driveway would hold up in a year or so. It is a very long driveway that curves into our carport. The driveway is looking alright. A few areas that could have been done a little neater but I can live with it. Actually, I have no choice. Georgio quoted me a price that was higher then everyone else but I decided to go with them anyways due to their reputation and paid the extra. If I had to do it all over again I probably would have gone with the lesser quote as I have seen the work their completion did and it was quite acceptable. After signing the contract, it took approx. 2+ months from the time they ripped up the driveway till the paving. The workers were quite friendly and went about their business in a timely and professional fashion. They did a fair job in cleaning up after completion. Other then what I mentioned above, the one complaint I have is after the contract was signed and job completed I had a discount coupon that they wouldn't honor because the contract had already been signed and paid for. I thought this was a tad petty but it is what it is.

When our excavation crew excavates a driveway, a report regarding the condition of the base is given to our scheduling department. Based on the "sponginess" of your driveway we determine how long the driveway must sit before the asphalt is laid. This waiting period can be on average of 2 to 8 weeks but we have seen extreme cases need to wait longer. This waiting period is for the benefit of the driveway as we need to make sure the base is firm enough to maximise the stability. We use rollers for compaction however some areas of the driveway cannot be rolled with the roller without the risk of damaging the house or window wells, etc. and must be compacted manually with tampers. This does not affect the stability of your driveway but sometimes the texture will be different. Sorry you were unable to take advantage of a promotion we may have offered. The terms of the promotion may have dictated it to be given upon signing the contract. Rest assured we have built you a strong driveway and will stand by our warranty.

    Resurfacing driveway

    I resurfaced my very long driveway with asphalt. The asphalt was lined with pavers. I am very satisfied with the work done by the company. All the staff were professional and a pleasure to deal with. The neighbors were not inconvenience by the resurfacing job due to the efficient operations.

    Patio, walkway, and garden walls.

    Our new interlock patio and walkway, and garden walls, look spectacular. We give Northland Paving the highest recommendation. With Northland Paving, it quickly became apparent that we had hired the best – both in the superior quality of the work done, and how we were treated as customers. Everyone at Northland was easy to deal with, pleasant to talk to, very accommodating, and really cared that we were satisfied – sales rep, office staff, excavation crew, interlock installation crew, and the person who did the decorative concrete finishing. Northland did all of the following for us: - installed interlock front patio and side walkway with steps - built garden walls - installed a drainage system (so downspouts could be disconnected) - waterproofed the basement wall - applied a decorative epoxy finish to an existing retaining wall - coordinated the irrigation system installation with Rainbow Sprinkler Services (also do excellent work) It started by meeting with Giorgio, who asked what we wanted, provided suggestions, and gave us the estimate. What really made his proposal stand out from others was the garden walls, full steps, and the “quilting “ (a border of different coloured interlock which looks great and adds a touch of elegance). He knew all aspects of the job, made several helpful recommendations, and was involved throughout the entire project, including coordinating with the irrigation system installers. He responded immediately when unexpected changes were needed and extra work required (waterproofing of basement wall). Sheila from Northland’s office, was so nice, helpful, and pleasant to talk to. She kept us informed throughout, letting us know when work would start and was expected to finish, and when crews would be showing up. Gabriel and his crew handled the excavation. He knew all aspects of the work being done, and really understood how his work laying the base for the interlock would affect the work being done after - a sure sign of a real pro. He assessed the job, explained what he and his crew would be doing, and discussed the all the work being done to ensure the excavation was exactly right. While installing the base, he realized the grade at the side of the house was too steep for what we originally planned, and recommended some changes that fit in perfectly with what we wanted for the walkway. Milan and his crew installed the interlock patio and walkway, and garden walls. He was meticulous in the precision stonework he and his crew did, and took real pride in his work, insisting that everything had to be done right. He’s a true craftsman, and it really shows – like I said earlier, spectacular. Dave did the decorative finishing for the concrete retaining wall, which now looks great. He provided photos of work he’d done ahead of time, met with us to discuss options and provided suggestions, and helped us chose the style and colour of finish. The stucco-like finish blends in nicely with the interlock walkway. Even the cleanup was noticeable - everything was spotless when they finished. Thank you Giorgio, Sheila, Gabriel, Milan, Dave, and the rest of the people who did such a fabulous job.

    driveway paving

    A few asthetic issues prompted me to call Northland paving after a few months. They were responsive, and addressed my concerns immediately, in person. So far we are happy. I would recommend Northland.
