With my neighbour we did paving with Northland last year.we are not so happy with work they did. There is dent in a drivay from day one, we have been calling to get it fixed since it was done last year. They are giving excuses and it's not fixed yet.we got year warranty but they aren't fixing it.I gave them contract reading good reviews on homestar.

Hi Yogita, We remember you well. You called us with your concern after we had closed for the season. We assured you we would rectify the issue with your driveway and sure enough we did. We honoured our warranty as we promised we would.

    Interlock

I would like to thank Giorgio for a fantastic job resetting the existing interlock in our driveway (which now looks like new) and creating a new interlock area extending past the driveway along the side of my house. It looks awesome and is perfectly graded. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company.

    Paving, Interlock and Porch Refacing

We had Northland Paving, pave our driveway, an interlock walkway and resurface the porch. We could not be happier with the results. Many of our neighbours have commented on how great it all looks. We had some minor issues, but Sean/Sheila were quick to act and get everything straightened out to our satisfaction. The three crews were so courteous, helpful and caring of our property. Sean and Sheila were so great to deal with it made the jobs go so much easier on our part. I would highly recommend NORTHLAND PAVING for any services that you may require.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Sheila posted your email up for the crews to see! It is nice to hear that the project met with your expectation. Thank you for your recommendation!

    Northland Paving Ltd

Northland Paving completed an asphalt driveway excavation and laying, and, an interlock walkway and step, and driveway border installation, in May and early June of 2015. From start to finish, the staff were informative, punctual and professional. Giorgio visited first to assess the area, provide suggestions regarding products and colour, and estimate the costs involved. The excavation crew were thorough and quick - the team worked as a unit, and were pleasant and efficient. They left the area swept and neat. The interlock team was excellent. It was obvious that Dave and Joey were highly invested in their work; Dave is a true artisan and takes pride in his craft, as he designs and builds the walkway, its slope and any steps up to the door, if required. Our walkway and driveway borders look fantastic, and add so much to the aesthetic appeal of our home. The colour suggested by Giorgio looks wonderful. The paving crew was a well oiled machine! They ensured the asphalt went down in a timely manner and there was nothing for us to clean up after. The rain now rolls down the driveway as it should. The asphalt lines up perfectly with the interlock along its sides and the garage floor. From start to finish, Sheila, the scheduling manager, ensured that we were informed of tentative work dates (three in all) as weather is a factor in definite planned dates. We also had other contractor work going on, which impacted the Northland work schedule. These other dates were worked around with ease. Any questions were answered immediately via email, and Sheila was a constant in the seven week period from initial contact to final asphalt layer installation. She is a highly organized coordinator and communicator who takes initiative and keeps everyone informed ongoing. Northland Paving is an excellent choice!

    Interlocking Paver Driveway

It took the company 3 attempts last summer to install the permeable, pavers to our satisfaction and according to the specifications written by us in the contract which we signed in good faith. The first time they delivered the wrong pavers (our discovery). The second time they did not use a protective pad on the vibrating compactor which caused permanent damage to the textured pavers. They finally got it right the last time. Elapsed time, about 5 months from when they removed the original driveway. Still waiting for a rebate from the paver manufacturer which they claimed they had submitted (?). Would never use them again. Even needed to get the paver manufacturer to act as a mediator.

    Answer from pro:

Sorry we failed to meet your expectations. When reading reviews posted, it is likely better for a homeowner to understand what the contractor will do for you in the event things go off track. Will the contractor step up to remedy the situation or declare a “stop-loss” and walk away? Judging by some of the phone calls we field, many contractors walk away from the project to “stop the loss”. The stone you requested is made in both permeable and non-permeable styles. An error was made and the non-permeable stone was shipped. We corrected this mistake. The interlock crew assigned to your project did a wonderful job with the installation however, made an error in judgement and did not use the protective pad while tamping the driveway causing some scuffing to the stone. This would have disappeared in time, however we took steps to correct the problem. First we power washed the installation and offered to seal the stone. When this was not satisfactory to you we did in the end replace the entire driveway with new stone. You are correct these steps did take place over the course of a few months as our first attempt was to power wash, when that failed to satisfy we had to order in new stone (your chosen stone is a special order request through Unilock and is not as readily available as other stones and not one we stock). In the interim, your driveway installation was perfect, still looked good and you were able to enjoy full use of it until we replaced it. The rebate form was mailed to Unilock after the project was completed and paid for. As we close up for the winter, we were not able to follow up with it on your behalf. Unilock has assured me that your rebate of $51.60 is being processed and you should receive it soon. In the end, we are confident you should be pleased with your beautiful new driveway. Sometimes things don’t go as smoothly as we would like but we feel we stepped up in every way possible to ensure your satisfaction with the end result. We are sorry to hear that you felt that warranted a score of 1 out of 10 because in our opinion that is what we would have awarded the contractor who did nothing to ensure your satisfaction.

    Asphalt driveway replacement

We share a large asphalt driveway with our neighbours who own a seven unit apartment. The driveway was in terrible shape. In August of 2014 we got quotes for excavation and application of new asphalt from four recommended companies. Although Northland Paving was by far the most expensive (almost twice what the other companies asked), we decided to go with them based on previous customers reviews. We agreed with our neighbour that we would split the cost equally, even though their portion of the driveway is larger. Giorgio sold us a contract for the 'Gold Package'. For a total of $28,656.40 they would - Remove all existing asphalt - Excavate all existing base and earth to a depth of 8" below the finished surface - Supply an 8" base of Crushed stone - and supply and spread Hot Mix Asphalt. The contract that we AND Giorgio signed was worded "Acceptance of this quotation constitutes a binding contract". Two weeks later the excavation team came. The lead worker started digging up the asphalt while the rest of the team filled the dump trucks. Well into the job we received a phone call from Giorgio (who was not on site) to say that the guy doing the digging (sorry, I don't know his name) had discovered some buried concrete under the asphalt. They hadn't been aware of this when they gave us the quote (obviously, neither were we) and 'it could cost up to another $8,000 to remove and dispose of the concrete!' So much for the 'binding contract'. Since the team was well into the excavation, we really felt we had no choice but to let them continue. They actually charged us another $6,215 - which we resentfully paid. Eventually driveway was paved and we are satisfied with the result. However, for the sake of good customer relations, Northland Paving should not have charged us more than we agreed in our contract. Who does business like that?

    Answer from pro:

We are happy that you are pleased with your new driveway. Sometimes there are unknown factors that present themselves in any construction project. The contract we signed with you was actually $24,000 for the asphalt replacement on your contract and it did indeed specify that we would remove and dispose of existing asphalt and 8” of existing base (driveway base materials consist of crushed stone) and underlying earth. We contracted to supply and install 8” of crushed stone. Unfortunately the previous paving contractor had chosen (for obvious economic reasons) to leave existing deteriorated concrete buried beneath your asphalt surface. It is very costly to remove as the effort is more time consuming to break up and dig out reinforced concrete as opposed to base materials, extra trucking is involved and the concrete must be separated from the rest of the materials for disposal, disposal fees also go up, the depth of the excavation went from 8” to 12” and therefore more materials also had to be trucked in. We also don’t like these surprises because we estimate approximately how long each project should take to complete and when this happens our schedule must change and the other projects we were scheduled for that day had to be cancelled. We don’t like surprises any more than you do but without bore-hole testing being provided to us we have no way of knowing if concrete is buried (this is certainly not the norm). We estimated it could cost an extra $8,000.00 as we really didn’t know how much it involved until we were knee deep in the excavation. In fact the final tally was $5,500.00 for the extra time, trucking and materials the rest ($715.00) was HST. We thought it best to complete the project properly and leave you with a well-built solid driveway rather than bury and have the driveway fail like the last contractor did.
