We did a lot of homework prior to replacing our roof. We researched the various new material options, various material suppliers, and roofing contractors. We also talked to a number of friends who had gone through the same process recently. In the end we chose to work with Adam from Penfolds for the following reasons:
1) We wanted to work with a firm who had a great reputation, stood behind their work and would actually still be in business and willing to respond should we have a problem 10 years down the road. We could have saved a few dollars by getting the material from a contact we had in the roofing supply business and working with a budget team of roofers. One of our neighbours did that, but they really had nobody they could hold accountable when a leak happened. The roofers blamed the shingles and the material supplier blamed the roofers.
2) We wanted top quality material and a top quality installation. We went with Penfolds' treated cedar shingles which come with a 30 year guarantee. (We did this mainly for resale considerations.) Penfolds uses top grade shingles and a high quality treatment, which translated into a great looking roof. (Several of our neighbours saved a few bucks by sourcing their cedar shingles from another group, but 1 year later many of their shingles are twisting and rising off the roof, and their pressure treatment solution left their roof with a funky green hue.)
3) We wanted a professional, well supervised crew. In sharp contrast to a few of the other roofing jobs we had seen in our neighbourhood, Penfolds team worked really quickly, kept the site very clean, protected all our landscaping and took great effort to minimize noise. (Some of the other crews we had seen looked like they were from the cast of Breaking Bad.)
In short, we are very happy with our Penfolds roof. We received a very professional job, at a fair price, without any drama.
I would not hesitate to recommend Adam and Penfolds.
