    Removing carpet and laying laminate

I would have no problem using Sonoma contracting for any further work. Strongly recommended. Just did a floor in my condo in Harbour front, Toronto. The price was reasonable and the work was done well.

    basement reno

Mike was great. he answered all my questions and took the time to explain things. He does a great job with quality control by having the trades in at separate times. He really cares about what he does and he is passionate about the final product. Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat.

    Basement finished

My wife and I are very pleased with the work they did in finishing our basement. Mike and his crew listened to what we wanted and they delivered. They were very flexible and patient with our schedule and the basement looks great. Our kids love it. We watched the work as it was done and we have no complaints. We highly recommend Sonoma Contracting. Luc in Markham.

    Basement Renovation

The project was a basement renovation of a bare unfinished basement. After many years of constant discussions with my wife and indecision regarding attempting to renovate the basement ourselves and call in subcontractors to do the jobs. I’m glad we went with a full turnkey contractor like Somoma Contacting. After my initial meeting with Mike and Aldo we already felt at ease with their attitude and professionalism. Mike and Aldo were a pleasure to work with. I had a vision in mind and wanted our unfinished basement to be perfect despite it’s short comings, like a low ceiling and large bulk heads. Mike made our vision come true. He was always quick to respond to emails and calls, concerns or suggestions. Mike worked with us to create the clean open space with plenty of storage. The complete project also included relocating waterlines, replacing a trunk of duct work for higher clearance, new remodeled staircase, a three piece bathroom and a beautiful focal point built-in with glass shelves that also hides one of the metal poles. The workmanship was always high quality. Any problems or concerns the arose were remedied without to much fuss. His crews and subs were always courteous during and after renovations were well done. Our renovation did go over the originally discussed timeline, but if was understandable since it fell over the Christmas holidays. (scheduling is always a difficult issue over the holidays). In the end we have the basement my wife an I always wanted with the high quality workmanship that was expected. We highly recommend Sonoma Contracting. Thank you Mike, Aldo et al.

    Finish the basement

Mike came highly recommended, so we asked him to quote on our basement project. He was very knowledgeable and helped us design a very functional basement. He did not stop working until we were happy. He understood our needs better than we did and worked to build us a functional basement at a reasonable cost.

    Basement Renovation

I had a great experience with Mike and was very happy I did. Choosing a renovator is quite a big commitment especially seeing Mike Holmes' horror stories. I chose Mike over 3 other contractors , and would choose him again (for my next basement) because he was: 1. honest and professional - he would give the options and let the home owner make the last decision. At no time was he ever pushy. He would present the pros and cons allowing me to decide according to my budget. He would always make recommendations and present best practices, but in the end the owner had the final word. He would always confirm before beginning. 2. He is passionate of the work quality and it shows. He made fantastic recommendations since he's seen more basements than I ever will in a lifetime. He made sure to give the largest space by minimizing bulkhead space, moving gas pipes and ducts. It is true that he treats the basement like his; pride of ownership! 3. highly communicative - if not by phone, he is very accessible by email. I've never had an issue where I couldn't reach him within 24 hrs. 4. accommodating and approachable to the owner. We were under a budget so there were items that we wanted to do ourselves like painting (which was a lot of work and the end wished we let them take it on). He will work around your budget by offering alternative options and patiently explaining the pros and cons of each. We felt comfortable with Mike and we left the key with them and no issues. Mike has a terrific sense of humour in my opinion and made the entire process move smoothly. 5. Timely. He says he will come at a certain time and he or his contractors will be there. Thanks to Mike and his fabulous team, he has provided a great space for our young family to enjoy for years to come! I would choose Mike again and would recommend hi to everybody as he delivered with high workmanship and professionalism. The reviews are true, this guy is the man. Great job Mike!!!

    Basement renovation

When we contacted Mike at Sonoma our expectations were quite high due to the reviews that we read on Homestars. We weren’t disappointed. It was a challenge to get Mike to take on the job in the first place as he’s very busy. The wait was worth it. The whole project was high quality and it was done with very good sensitivity to our cost. Mike really worked hard at putting an estimate together that was sensitive to our budget constraints. We were very pleased with the final quote. Mike and his company Sonoma do very good work and really work with you to make you happy. When we started talking seriously he accommodated our schedule very well and made a great effort to get our job started as soon as possible. The only thing that might seem like criticism was that he seems to have a lot of projects going at once and sometimes when things got held up with inspectors or other things out of his control the job seemed to lag for periods of time. The project took about 4 months to complete which was about twice as long as what was planned. From our perspective it seemed that their momentum was hard to regain after these disruptions. We were extremely pleased with the end result and we were responsible for some of the disruptions. Mike went to great effort to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. When we asked questions Mike was quick to return our calls and went to great efforts to make what ever adjustments necessary to make us happy even when it was inconvenient for him and due to our negligence not his.

    Workshop reno

I had Mike and Aldo in my shop to help with the reno that I was undertaking last month. They replaced the old tiles, installed new potlights, and repainted the whole place. They cleaned up their mess once the work was complete which was good. Great work, and always a pleasure to work with!

    Basement Renovation

Our basement project took years to get off the ground. Like most, we have busy lives with work and family and needed a solid project manager who could keep things going even when we lost focus. Sporadic attempts over the years to find the right team were not successful until we found Sonoma on Homestars. We were skeptical at first as, like most, we have had bad experiences with past home renovations. Mike was clear about what he would do for us and did exactly what he promised. It was impossible to detail all of our expectations so having a knowlegeable team that could provide good advice along the way was essential. He offered design ideas and drew from his vast experience about what would work well in basements. Mike provided advice that frequently complicated his life but it was the right advice for us. In every renovation, there are things that don't go smoothly. Mike and Aldo worked through these frustrations with us in a very professional way suggesting alternatives and delivering results that exceeded our expectations. As others have indicated in their reviews, Mike is always available and is very responsive with communications and/or visits. His team is very capable and went above and beyond several times: when a sub-trade finished their work and we were not available, Aldo drove from home on the weekend to ensure that the house was secure. We highly recommend Mike, Aldo, Tony and the team.

    Basement Renovation

We have a 2-level basement in a back-split, which we needed renovating within 2 months (May, June). After going through a couple of other contractors, we found Mike Flammia (Sonoma Contracting), recommended by people who had worked with him. His estimate was about 60% of the other estimates we had been given. His team had the entire area gutted within a day—walls, ceilings, etc.—and then both floors in about another ten days. We had originally planned to take out only the upper floor, but on Mike's advice (and at a very reasonable price), took out the lower floor too so that it could be levelled with precision. They put in weeping tiles and a new sump pump under the floor, and levelled the concrete on both levels with lasers. All the crews Mike subcontracts are extremely high quality, and very personable to boot. The heart of the operation is Tony the framer, who will turn your informal plans into precisely measured and handsome walls, duct-boxes, closets, etc. Great planning and attention to detail: all the outside walls were insulated, the heating vents were brought down to floor level, the rewiring was top notch, with a new fuse box and even lighting done for the pergola outside. Gas pipes, drains, TV and computer outlets, a tiled floor in the lower basement, and a very beautiful composite in the upper basement. No nasty surprises—all unforeseen snags dealt with efficiently—and they finished on time. And these guys are just a joy to work with!
