    Emergency repair of standpipe

Following the ice storm on December 21st, our main power line was torn down from our house by falling trees. Late on Dec 23rd, Toronto Hydro reported that we needed an electrician to replace our standpipe before our line could be reconnected. On Christmas Eve morning I called and left a message with Captain Electric. Diane promptly returned my call and scheduled us in later that morning. As we were out of town, Enrico called to explain the work and was able to complete the job that afternoon! Late on Dec 25th the neighbourhood power was brought back on including our home, thanks to Captain Electric's efficient work. We were thoroughly impressed by Captain Electric's: 1) quick, clean, professional response, 2) ability to handle this emergency request while we were out of town; and 3) their fair price, as we are to understand some of our neighbours were taken advantage of because of the circumstances, paying twice the price for the same work. We will definitely use Captain Electric for any future electrical needs.

Thank you Lori for posting your review. This devastating Ice Storm certainly will not be forgotten. We are glad that we were able to help you promptly, and that power was able to be restored to you that day. We did have a fully booked schedule until the end of the year, but realized that restoring power to homes was more important than any non-emergency work that we had scheduled, and that this would be our priority. We are thankful to all of our clients (with scheduled non-emergencies) who were very supportive of our decision to postpone their work, to be able to look after the real emergencies caused by the storm. Our team worked through holidays, and on many occasions into the night to help in the restoration effort. Thank you again for your post. We look forward to being of service next time you need us.

    electrical panel

Two days before the 2013 New Year’s Eve, the fuses servicing our main floor started to smell like something was burning. We had to immediately shut off our fuse box. In this emergency situation, we were looking for help. During the holiday season, we called many companies but only Captain Electric answered our call. They reacted swiftly and professionally. In a few days, we had a new electrical panel installed. The job was completed in 6 hours, in one day. The team, comprising of Enrico, the licensed electrician and his apprentice Kevin. I want to thank them and Captain Electric for an excellent and professional job.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you "r" for your post. Any burning smell coming from an electrical panel should always be taken very seriously and immediate action should be taken. We would recommend calling the Fire Department as the quickest response / In your case, you did shut down your panel at the main switch and called us. We were glad to have helped solve the problem with a new Electrical Service Panel. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric.

Undercounter LIghts/ceiling fans and bathroom fan

I have had Captain Electric install multiple ceiling fans, as well as under counter lights in the kitchen and a bathroom fan. Not only was the work done very well but they stand behind their service. I would highly recommend this organization for any electrical work.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Alison. We appreciate your review. We do need to stand behind the products we install, even when the manufacturer's warranty expires as is sometimes the case. We are glad to have you as a happy customer, and look forward to seeing you again when you need us.

    change to breaker panel

Nothing but praise for the workmanship and service from Enrico and Dan installing our electrical service panel. They showed up on time, their time estimate for the work was right on, they were friendly and professional. They wore 'slippers' over their shoes and put their own rug down to avoid any mess. Due to the length of job they had a brief lunch and when they returned, Dan even asked if I would mind if he drank the rest of his coffee downstairs! To top it off, my wife left the house with keys to both vehicles leaving me car-less to attend a medical appointment. Admittedly, I was a little upset. Enrico asked how they could help? Could they drive me somewhere? Of all the work we've had done in our home from various technicians, these guys were the best! We highly recommend them!

Thank you Steve and Kelley. We appreciate your review and post on Homestars. Your home is your castle, and should be treated with respect .... For safety reasons we are required to wear shoes or boots with a steel toe and sole while working (even inside your home). The covers we wear are to protect your floors. I am glad that you noticed and appreciated that. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric as your service provider, and we look forward to seeing you next time.

Installed arc circuit breaker and intalled new pull chain light.

Early evening on a weekday night after typical business hours, my wife and I had a concern regarding a light in our back room - we had some safety concerns about it shorting out. Enrico called us back within minutes (we called another company that never called back at all) He listened to our multiple concerns and gave direction on what to do in the present moment. We communicated interest in booking a time for Captain Electric to come to the house. As stated by Enrico – we were contacted first thing in the morning by Diane who works in the office. She was very friendly but more importantly was able to quickly liaison with Enrico with some further questions and concerns and provide solid information with safety being the main focus. Diane explained the companies up front pricing and how things could proceed. Enrico came at the top end of the window we booked and Diane called shortly before he arrived as planned. Enrico sat with us and went through his and the companies’ credentials – untypical but I liked it and wish more trades would take time to do this; it’s nice to know who is working on your house. Enrico identified multiple possibilities before inspecting so we had a sense of best and worst case scenarios and how much it could cost based on the pricing chart. I loved the pricing and I had a clear sense of the high and low end of the problem we were having. Enrico was just a straight up nice guy, but more importantly clearly a safety focused experienced electrician. His inspection of the situation was detailed and he really thought things through. After he had a strong understanding of the problem and possible causes he presented our choices. One piece of what he did was putting in a Sp fault breaker which was a new thing to me; I did not feel like it was an upsell, because he gave such good information about the problem. This is a company that clearly cares about customer service, and is concerned that the customer is feeling safe and satisfied with the job. In the unlikely event we had a problem I have no doubt these folks would stand by their guarantee. I will call them back in the future and would recommend them to co-workers friends and family.

Thank you DM, we appreciate your review. It is very important to us that we do the right thing for the client. Electrical Safety is of prime concern to us at Captain Electric. We talk about this all the time at meetings, and when we gather at coffee time......ARC Fault breakers are required in new home construction for specific circuits, but we will often recommend them in older homes in certain instances...... Explaining what to expect from a service call and a troubleshooting diagnosis is part of what we do. We believe it is your right as the homeowner to have these things explained, so you understand the service we are providing..... Thank you for calling Captain Electric. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

    New outlets and lighting

I had a small renovation in the back of the house, and needed 2 new breakers, 2 new electrical runs, the addition of an outlet, a switch, a fixture, and an additional exterior outlet. I contacted a few other electrical contractors for estimates first, but the job was too small for them to come out for. When I contacted Captain Electric we booked an appointment right away, the electrician arrived on time, reviewed the project with me and provided a price on the spot (Captain Electric uses a fixed pricing system for each task, they do not charge by the hour, and the price does not change if they bring in someone to help). I agreed to the price quoted, and since I was already home for the day, the work was started immediately. A second electrician came in for part of the day to help out, and the entire job was done the same day. The work was very clean, they only made holes in my ceiling when there was absolutely no other way to fish the wire to the destination. They also pointed out some items that were not up to electrical code, which I had them correct while they were there, and also provided me with some recommendations/estimates for possible future upgrades. A very good experience overall, I was very happy with their work, and would recommend them.

Thank you Mark for posting on Homestars. We were glad to have been able to help you, complete the work the same day, and to also be able to correct some other code issues for you. Thanks for choosing Captain Electric.

    fix wiring

The home I recently purchased was improperly wired and was a fire hazard. Captain Electric's Enrico came and assessed the situation and suggested what I needed. Since I have been through one major renovation I was wary but there was no need , this company is straightforward. There were no hidden costs. I found the Electricians and apprentices to be polite and respectful of my home. They completed the work on time and on budget. I will use them again and would recommend them to family.

    Answer from pro:

Brenda, thank you for your review of our services. We are always happy to help a homeowner make their home a safer and more secure place to live. Eliminating the electrical hazards that were present should now provide you with peace of mind. We look forward to seeing you again when you need us.

    Electrician

We've been living at our home for 4 years and haven't needed electrical work until now. We've saved up (non-urgent) jobs and Dave came to look at everything all at once. With a 5 month old baby, we wanted to ensure the house was baby-proof and all the safety stuff in place (fire alarms, CO detector, etc). Dave was professional and has 20 years+ experience and spent 2 hours with me. He was knowledgeable and nice. It cost $134 (including HST) and was well worth the money. He went to his truck and got a ladder to check the outdoor light bulbs and the bathroom vent that had blown out, so that when they return on a 2nd visit - they'll know exactly what to bring. They're coming back tomorrow to do the installation & I'm looking forward to using the 2nd bathroom again! Overall, I'd recommend this company.
