Avalon Granite is a wonderful company to deal with. They responded so quickly to our initial inquiry and provided their quote, then scheduled and completed the job on time and to our complete satisfaction. Everyone that works with the organization - including the template designer and all installers are knowledgeable, efficient and easy to deal with. Review left on 17 Nov 2011Rating: 3 out of 5Kitchen Counter (granite) and Bathroom Counter (marble)
We hired Avalon Granite to replace our kitchen counter and our bathroom counter, we were happy with their prices and the sales person was pretty quick to respond to questions, so decided to go out to see the actual pieces in person. The person I began speaking with didn't work on weekends (which is the only time we could make it out there) and the person we booked an appointment with was busy with other customers, so a third employee assisted us. He was nice, but didn’t know at all what had been previously discussed/quoted, he also didn’t know which pieces we were there to look at or where they were. In the end we figured it out and decided to buy both the kitchen counter and the bathroom counter. At that point, I told the person we were meeting with that we were doing a bathroom renovation in the future and so we would need the kitchen counter top installed separately from bathroom countertop. I asked at this time if it would be an issue and were told it was fine. Then we were told that someone would be by to measure the countertop soon. The person who was suppose to measure the countertop cancelled the day of the appointment though and then we were told that it was because our job wasn't big enough to warrant him coming out to our home. In the end someone did come to measure, but we were told at that time that they would only come on one day to install both (even though we weren't ready for the bathroom countertop and we had been quoted both pieces individually including installation and told when we asked at our appointment that it was ok) so we ended up just asking them to drop off the bathroom vanity top when the kitchen countertop was installed and we had our bathroom contractor install the vanity top. To be fair they did say that they would come back if we paid for the countertop in full when the kitchen countertop was installed, however, given the issues we had run into, we didn’t feel comfortable paying the amount in full without having the product. The day the installers came went well, they did a good job on the kitchen countertop and we like the way the stone looks. However when it came time to pay the bill there was another mix up and we were told we owed a substantial sum more than what we had agreed to, luckily a call to our initial contact cleared it up pretty quickly, but it was just another bump in the road with this company. I think that perhaps if you were spending a lot more than we did, that the customer service would be better, but I can only speak to the experience we had. We're happy with the final product, which is why I have given a rating of 6, but there were no seams and the job was fairly straight forward, so if we were to do it over, I would hire another company with better customer service and lose the headaches we encountered along the way.Answer from pro:
Candice, we apologize for the headaches you went through working with Avalon. The only thing I can think of that caused the misunderstandings was the extreme volume of work we had over the past couple months. This, however is no justification for the experience you went through, and we are working on expanding our customer service efforts so future clients will not go through a similar experience. Once again, we regret what you went through, however we hope that the final product has been a worthwhile investment. Thank you for your business. Regards, The Avalon Team

Review left on 15 Nov 2011Rating: 5 out of 5Quartz counter top
Avalon Granite replaced our kitchen counter top when we had to update the family home to sell it. Their quartz top was priced fairly & was in stock. Though they were very busy at the time, they still put a rush on our job so that we could get the house on the market and sold as quickly as possible (due to a death in the family). Despite many unexpected complications, their very capable installers were still able to finish the job the same day, allowing the ceramic tile installers to stay on schedule as well. The entire staff was very helpful (especially Uri) & I would highly recommend the company to anyone in the GTA.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

We were so disappointed with the work that this company did, especially after the great reviews on Homestars. The measurement was wrong, the seam was poorly done, and there was a flaw in the island countertop. Despite promises to redo, they kept putting us off until it became clear that it wasn't going to happen. The owners of the company are nice people and we trusted them to do a good job. We are quite sad because we've always made good choices of contractors and have been happy with other renovations.Answer from pro:
First of all, we at Avalon would highly recommend this client to any contractors in the market. They are ethical, respectful, and most importantly very nice people. Unfortunately this particular project occurred various misunderstandings which we at Avalon take very seriously, and make every effort to ameliorate the situation. As per our policy to continue maintaining all of our clients fully satisfied, as can be proven by our general reviews, we would like to therefore respond to the 3 specific claims that this client made against Avalon. 1) As far as our records show, the measurements were never wrong. We use either lazer templating technology or other precise measurement tools to make sure that all of final measurements are 100% accurate. During installation, the client pointed out a small variance on one of the edge overhangs after it was already installed. Avalon made sure to comply with the client's request and stayed overtime to try and resolve this situation. To this day, we are still not sure whether it was a cabinet problem, wall imperfection problem, or any other imperfection, as we measured and re-measured the stone specs. It corresponded exactly. 2) Whether the seam was poorly done or not is a back and forth argument. After many years in the stone industry, the staff at Avalon have seen the best and worst of seams. When there is a real problem with the seam, we are always ready to invest the extra time to perfect it. In this case, the actual problem was miscommunication. The client did not want a seam at all on her countertop project. When the clients first visited our showroom, we explained to them that a majority of our projects MUST be completed with at least 1 seam due to various reasons. Moreover, this was explained to them at other opportunities as well. Basically, once the project was fully completed (acceptable in our opinion), the client refused to accept the fact that there was a seam. 3) The "flaw" on the island was something that was barely visible with the human eyes, occuring a result of the Caesarstone Quartz production process. Moreover, as Caesarstone is an engeneered stone product, we advised the client that if this was a real issue, we would send official Caesarstone technical representatives to fix this "issue". Although any reliable company strives to make every client happy, there are situations when there will be a greater loss and resentment on both sides (the buyer and the seller). We at Avalon made sure to consult with the client several times after the installation to find any solutions possible. The client did not wish to have anything done, except to redo the full project. Avalon was placed in a predicament where either we loose a substantial amount of money for a project which was fully acceptable by the standards of the countertop industry or, after several tries at fixing any issue, back away and let the client potentially enjoy the product which they paid for and was fully supplied, installed, and serviced for them. We are saddened by this situation, and we at Avalon appreciate the inputs (positive and negative) of all clients, so we can always improve and grow to be an industry leader. Regards, The Avalon Granite & Marble management team.

The company principals are both friendly & conciencious. The work was done soon after our agreement & finished to our 100% satisfaction. I have been a building contractor for 30 yrs. & know good trades when I experience them.
